I haven’t leveled a new toon over a year, coming back recently. I did some quests, started with burning shore, I guess it started me at level 10. leveling feels slower than it use to. I notice heirloom gear no longer gives a bonus to killing stuff or quests like it use to or at least not in the desc. I know they condensed the level but … it feels slow.
yes they removed the bonus xp but instead they added a set bonus that rested xp is used up slower with a complete set. I am leveling a new dark iron and I was getting a level about every 20-30 minutes. Now that I’m in the current content it has slowed down to about 3 hours a level. If you use WoD leveling you can go pretty fast just doing the bonus objectives.
Ehhh I was leveling my pally tank using dungeons, and he’d insta pop for a 20 minute dungeon run. I’d gain at least a whole level each time, up until 40ish
I believe the heirloom bonus was removed because the devs just crunched the overall experience needed to hit max level so everyone levels as though they have exp heirlooms equipped. The leveling in my experience is actually faster than it has ever been by a long shot, but the first and last ten levels are excruciatingly boring.
maybe its just that it feels boring.
It’s actually quicker now. I leveled a warrior and mage and it took maybe a week of playing a few hours a day.
It can get boring but if it does pick different places to play. Intro quests give a lot of exp too. Wod intro is like 2 levels even at 40. There are some other quick exp hubs like ring of blood style quests
You can level where ever you want now.
Maybe pick expansions and zones you find more fun.
I really enjoy:
Eastern Kingdoms: Western and Eastern Plaguelands
Kalimdor: Ashenvale and Silithus
Outlands: Hellfire Pennisula and Nagrand
Northrend: Sholazar Basin and Howling Fjord
Cata: Deepholm and Vashj’ir
Pandaria: Kun-Lai Summit and Krasarang Wilds
Draenor: Spires of Arak
and… I only seem to have access to one dungeon.
It takes 6-7 hours to level from 1-50.
It’s super fast for me.
Just look up a leveling guide that’s like 1-50 fast leveling.
By the time you finish your first two zones, you’re level 30. Then it’s a mad dash to 50.
Shadowlands is where things slow to a crawl.
It’s best to level during the Darkmoon Faire event for the Darkmoon Carousel buff that gives you 10% extra XP and rep.
Timewalking dungeons also give way more XP than normal or random dungeons.
When you get to Shadowlands levels (50-60), do those quests on your map that have two swords in the shape of an X on them as they give you the best possible gear to be able to lift you up to normal and heroic dungeon level.
They look like this:

It’s your best bet at faster levelling aside from heirlooms.
This is pretty much it. Leveling isn’t slower, it just feels like it because the soul has been sucked out of it.
There’s nothing worse than getting done with something and feeling relieved that it’s over. Anyone who thinks that’s good game design is out of their minds.
Literally nothing has changed in the leveling process other than having more options.
Unless you feel that leveling never had a soul…I’m not sure what you are talking about
What has changed in the leveling process is removal of power progression with leveling. Every mob you kill feels the same to you. The only difference is the names over their plates. They’ve turned leveling into a giant progress bar to fill with tens of thousands of trash packs and hundreds of thousands of mobs.
Streamlining leveling with conversion from “Do of [y] quests” to “Do all storylines” removed options of skipping a quest that was overtuned, and there are certainly more of those now, given the lack of testing in conversion to level scaling and changes to item and vehicle quests.
Unless you’re on a very busy realm, you may never see a single player while leveling.
A lot of options have been removed, including things like soloing dungeons at level and powerleveling your friends. Now a level 49 in a group with a 50 gets exactly 0 xp. Grats on ignoring all those changes?
You know, you can still level in the old zones without chromie time and it is exactly the way it was before.
The old way isn’t gone.
Being able to be power leveled by your “friends” (aka buying a boost) gave leveling soul?
Recommendation:
Make a goal to accomplish while you level (transmog from quests/dungeons while leveling) and/or level up in a spec you are not used to playing.
As for me I have leveled up 8 characters (from 10 to 50+) since SL start. I hate leveling but love questing. And after the change I leveled my ARs as healers/tanks and went through zones I had low mog count. I’ve leveled more but those were all 50+ and that experience only got better with 9.1.5 changes.
No, it isn’t. Level scaling is universal, Chromie time or no. There is no “gaining power when you level and suddenly finding yourself stronger that that trash pack you were struggling with”. And all dungeons scale to level.
You have no clue on this. You haven’t been leveling characters and didn’t even see changes happening.
Playing with your friends is wrong for levelers? They should all suffer alone to make you happy that they deserve to level up, and then dump their friends who aren’t good enough for them anymore?
Anything that removes the incentive to play with your friends, in fact, disincentivizing it and making playing everything solo the only option until you reach max level and then saying “Now find new friends and play only with those guys” has removed soul from the game.
This is absolutely wrong. Level sync doesn’t let you feel the power increase you should be feeling while you’re leveling, weapons and gear are meaningless even if you do or don’t have heirlooms because you’ll likely replace that gear in a half hour (even the epic rolls you get are useless), and nothing is remotely challenging the player to work beyond their own parameters. Pretty much anything that was rewarding about leveling is now gone.
Class fantasy is gone because there aren’t any class quests anymore, and class trainers have no purpose because you autolearn all your spells, so they just sit in cities for a reason I can’t really discern other than that Blizzard is just too lazy to remove them from the game or utilize them in meaningful ways.
Leveling is a lifeless vehicle for endgame in that it’s a bloated tutorial attempt at teaching the player how to play their toon for endgame content. At this point, I’m convinced the only reason it exists is because of the precedent that has been set by MMOs to have a leveling process.
I think at moment it’s fine to lvl up … with Quests … it’s really fast I think
The old zones have a level cap.
Go out into the world and you’ll see that vanilla zone mobs cap out at 30, regardless if you are level 50+ or not and will cap out at 30 if you chose to ignore leveling in the bfa zones.
You are wrong. Level scaling isn’t universal. When outside of chromie time zones still use the level range system so you can play in an out leveled zone if you want.
