is it just me, or does anyone else feel this too?
i recently came back in anticipation for mists classic and i have been leveling off and on for a little while but i am leveling out of zones entirely so fast and i am missing out on a lot of gear from quest rewards that i would get otherwise by completing chain quests or later in the zone quests.
i also have a hard time finding dungeon groups and sometimes can take well over an hour.
the leveling process feels very disconnected and immersion breaking, and i guess its nice that i can just level so much faster on one hand, but on the other hand it is really discouraging to level out making it feel pointless.
i enjoy the leveling process a lot more than i do just spamming dungeons for hours but cata classic is just not delivering that experience to me, and i know this is going to continue well into bc if not into wrath also.
tldr; leveling is too fast, not fun, immersion breaking, and feels pointless

That’s Cataclysm for you. If you want leveling to be interesting, you gotta play Classic-Classic or TBC.

Or more realistically, one of the Era realms, because the devs will no doubt be adding experience bonuses to the anniversary realms at some point, too.

classic vanilla servers are there for you

I too enjoy questing and leveling, but this nerfing down of previous content isn’t just a Cata phenomena. Vanilla was nerfed down and xp boosted when BC came out and both were nerfed down and xp boosted when Wrath came out. As the main game progressed further the previous expansions were more and more nerfed and xp boosted. I’m not happy about it but it’s always been the way with wow, perhaps more with classic than original. It’s always been designed to get players quickly to the main expansion.

1 to 60 rdf can be slow I’ve found.
60 to 70 it gets better. I’ve signed up thinking I got some time to get a drink and a snack and pop goes the dungeon.
70 to 80 has been good to me to.
80 to 85…you get hits but the quality goes down imo. Or the drama increases. 80 to 85 is when I see the rage drops come more often. Which I get. At this point the chance of players never seeing BRC boss 1 has to be small as hell.
So when I see 2 dps die to the aoe in leveling I understand why healers go No!, not doing this. And leave.
80 to 85 has way too many people forgetting they aren’t on their 371+ chars lol. We aren’t muscling the normal boss.

Did you not play this when it was current content? Personally, I love the haste of leveling. I’m an altoholic, so it works great for me. Nothing is forcing you to go to a new zone.

Classic wrath also wasn’t bad. But blizzard doesn’t want permanent wrath classic or permanent bc classic players to have those servers made.
In Cataclysm, yes you can very easily outlevel zones before finishing them even without BoAs and/or Joyous Journeys running, since every expansion has generally made it easier to level so that the road to level cap isn’t so much of an arduous journey to undertake. Things became a lot more streamlined in this expansion, so if you’re wanting a much slower pace of leveling, this isn’t really the right place to look for it unfortunately. Mists will be even faster to level, though that’s mostly for people with alts using the new BoA legs and Elixirs of Ancient Knowledge.
Personally, I would prefer if leveling were actually faster, but that’s largely because I don’t really enjoy the leveling process very much as most of my enjoyment is derived from participating in endgame activities. While fresh leveling this character through Classic Wrath before JJ came along to speed things up, nothing was more immersion-breaking for me than finding out I finished pretty much all the quests I could do in a zone and sometimes not even get a single level out of it, or having to put the zone on hold because I was too low to pick up/do the next parts of a chain just as I was getting into it.
But regardless, the leveling speed being fast is just how Cataclysm is. It’s not by any means blistering fast like in later expansions, but just fast enough that you can reasonably expect to level every 30-45 minutes without putting too much effort into the grind prior to 80. For the zones I do actually enjoy leveling in when I do it on new alts, such as Westfall/Un’Goro/Plaguelands/most TBC zones, I’ll stay to finish them even if they’re grey to me.

I think leveling should be slow when it’s just Vanilla Classic, but when you add TBC, WotLK, Cata, etc. into the mix it needs to be sped up and not doing so would be a huge waste of time.
Fastest at the beginning with it tapering out the closer you get to the current expac.

This is why 1 to 60 rdf is slow most likely.
Alt addicts are touching up the 60 or over alts.
I was only in the range to make a grobb char for giggles. My next serious planned leveling job?
A DH, if we even get to legion, ofc. and they start late 90’s lol. Old wow is not prepared for double jump gliding DH’s.

If you want that slow paced, stop and smell the roses kind of leveling go to classic.
It is pretty fast even without heirloom until you reach level 70s then the speed slow down a bit.

Cata questing was designed to be more effecient going from quest hub to quest hub. More flight paths and graveyards etc.
My experience is 100% the opposite.
I’m on my 4th 85 since coming back to Cata in early Sept. Plus i’ve taken a mage from 40 to 54 and ive even started a hunter who is like 20 now.
If its going to slow, make sure youre using heirlooms, that extra +exp helps in the long run.
I also mainly level via RDF and questing in between ques, and sometimes the lower level (40-50s) have been really quick, like sub 5 min DPS ques during prime time hours.
Also im on Pagle and its pretty populated.
this was basically the problem with retails leveling all the way up to bfa.
you’d easily outlevel zones, having to drop the storylines and quest chains over and over. It became mostly pointless.
I never understood the obsession with leveling being this long painful process. Thats what classic is for. Only those who refuse to play end game content want longer leveling
Dungeon ques are probably bad because who TF is playing cata classic. Classic died when wotlk ended.
it doesnt need to be long and painful, it just needs to be cohesive, which it isnt.
i am leveling out of the zone and dropping quest lines to start a new zone just to drop all those quests too.
it doesnt need to be long or painful, it just needs to be a worthwhile experience and right now it isnt. i dont recall cata back when it was a new expansion being like this.
leveling by questing right now feels horrible. if quest gear was also upgraded so its not obsolete within 30 mintues of gameplay it wouldnt be so bad.
also, end game content isnt going anywhere. i never really understood the obsession with having to clear all of the content as fast as possible, but to each their own i suppose.

Agreed. Boosts exists, so if people want to level fast, let them pay for it. Bring back the grind.
