Leveling a rogue

This has been the most brutal leveling experience I have ever had. I’ve never died in the open world as much as I have with a rogue. I’ve been leveling as combat with no heirlooms and just hit 24.

Any tips on surviving this experience emotionally? LoL

Play better?
Seems like a bad answer but it’s the answer.

Fight one thing

Wrath era rogue is pretty damn easy once you max out precision. Sounds like you’re doing something wrong.

I don’t know why you’d be having trouble with Rogue especially that early. You get Vanish at level 20 (iirc) which should save you 9/10 times. Are you pulling like 3-4 at a time? Should really be only fighiting 1 and 2 when you can use Blade Flurry.

This is how I leveled my (78) Rouge, might take a while but you’ll get there.

Oh and don’t forget poisons.

Level combat, slowest weapon you can find in the mainhand, instant/ instant poison
gouge and bandage
blind and bandage

it gets easier

I was gonna say stop trying to level assassination until at least 50, but if you’re playing combat, I’ve got nothing…pick your battles better I guess

You want to level as combat swords. That what I did for Vanilla Classic. Skinning and leatherworking is also useful for making your own gear. Use your CC abilities and always make sure vanish is available for difficult pulls if things go south.

Rogue is the second most fun class to level next to hunter - in my opinion anyway.

You have the element of surprise and can explode people if played correctly.

As was mentioned by someone else though … pull smaller packs. You’re not going to have AOE till you hit blade flurry (combat tree), but even then it’s got a huge cooldown.

Play smarter and pick your battles wisely.

When you can abuse your cc!

You have, or will have, a lot of tricks. Don’t fight fair. You’re a rogue! Sap one, cheap/blind that guy, kill this guy and reset the fight.

My rogue is almost 21 on Maladath. For the most part, it’s not too bad. The toon isn’t as fancy as my paladin or warrior, so I still find myself adjusting.

Ultimately, if I think mobs are gonna give me a hard time (runners and casters, mostly,) I pop stealth and pull carefully. Sap is very useful, as well as using a thrown weapon. Gouge and kick have been life savers, as well as Evasion.

As far as trades, herbalism and alchemy seem to make sense, as you can make health potions and buffs.

The guides say to level combat swords, which means you won’t be using any of the fun openers (Ambush is great.) I suggest figuring out what style you want to play and roll with that.

Could you perhaps show your leveling talents, and glyphs that might help

What’s your spec?

yea rogue sucks overall without good gear as you are very dependant on your auto attack damage and poisons which both require good weapons. so just deal with it for now or do dungeons since it should be quicker than doing questing.

The best tips I can give you are

1 - Use your CC’s, Sap, Blind, Cheap Shot and Kidney Shot will be your tools
2 - Level you First Aid - This is very important since you don’t have another way to heal yourself
3 - Don’t try to make pulls, kill one by one.
4 - Abuse stealth and vanish while quests it will save you tons of time

I hope it helps

Just endure

I think it’s the worst class to level in Wrath (maybe tied with Priest)

As soon as you can get Shadowstep you can spec into a oneshot build, a simple macro will literally bring most mobs to around 5% hp, with a 30sec recharge. This is also insanely fun in Wpvp if you are on Grobb

I would also macro pick pocket onto sap and all your openers, this will supply you with a ton of healing potions

Also look into a simple weapon swap macro, for example

#showtooltip 16
/equipslot 16 “dagger name”
/equipslot 16 “sword name”

then you can ambush/backstab whenever needed. Swap back to your slow wep to spam Sinister in face-to-face combat. You will swap weps a lot so I bind it on something easy like tilde ~

My apologies if you knew all this before

Rogue is a god-awful class in wrath levelling dungeons though. most of the OG rogue utility is simply not needed in Wrath pve

This is the way.

Throw in the towel and just buy a boost.

“Get good, son.”
