Can we be a bit more sensible over what GMs can assist with in WoW Classic?
In my case, it is item restoration; a pet (Sprite Darter Egg) from a quest reward that I didn’t think about enough at the time. Yes, I understand that if GMs could restore any item from quests it could (potentially, if the GM wasn’t doing his job looking at ticket history) be exploited, but surely we can have a few exceptions for key items that were mistakenly destroyed along the way.
I just don’t get why the philosophy of GMs is to assist as little as possible and be almost completely constrained in what they can do. It’s only a game; there must be a balance between preventing GM abuse and being completely unfriendly and unhelpful.
People wanted the Classic experience. What they tend to forget is how hands-off a lot of things were then. It’s a lot easier to get things replaced or whatnot with Retail, but they’ve been pretty clear on what playing Classic really meant without the boon of what people can expect nowadays.
That, and what GMs can do is dictated by people above them. They would probably love to have the freedom to make everyone’s day, but none of us are worth losing their jobs over to fix something one of us did by mistake.
And just because they’re doing their job and having to tell someone “no” does not make them unfriendly.
To be blunt: Because the devs told them to. If you want that to change, you’d want to post such suggestions where the CMs who take feedback can pass it onto the devs.
No, we understand what you want. We’re explaining why it is what is and that it’s been like that for several years. That is part and parcel of the whole “Classic” thing. If you want safety nets, you play Retail. They’ve made it very clear that’s not going to be the case for Classic.
And to hop on what Tolna said, they don’t collect data from this forum - there are no GMs or Devs here. You’ll have to post in the Classic forums or use the in-game suggestion user interface. This forum is one for players to help other players. So we’ve done our part in clarifying for you what has been made available. To have your voice heard, those are the places you need to post your suggestions. I just wouldn’t get my hopes up in this instance.
