Let's think about the Tinker as a playable class

First things first. This is not a thread to claim and yell “Blizzard give us the Tinker class!”. This is just to imagine and think how this could be. Now let’s get in this.

  • Basics Concepts:

Trinkers would have 3 specs: melee dps, ranged dps and tank. Of course all their abilities are related to technological things.
Trinkets will use plate armor, because they would have technological suits that will be made with mechanical things made of metal. They wouldn’t benefit from strength, but intellect. Intellect will represent their skills to build, mantain and use technological devises. And they’ll use one-handed swords, maces and axes as weapons.

  • Two different “forms”:

In the 3 specs Trinkers will have 2 “forms”, in the same way that druids have differents forms in order to improve their skills. But Trinkers will not shapeshift, instead of this they will summon and mount into a Steam Armor (mechanical humanoid-shaped suits or vehicles, used for work or battle) like Gelbin has.

  • Caracteristics of the two different “forms”:

While he is using the Steam Armor he will have acces to the major abilities, and the most powerful. While not be using the S.A. he will a have just few and weak abilities.
While he is using the Steam Armor he will have a good health bar, that actually will represent the “health” of the machine. Also will have a power bar with the name of “fuel”, that will work like mana. While not using the S.A. he will have a very low health bar, and he will use energy as rogues and monks. All this means that while he is using the S.A. he will be stronger as any other class, but once the S.A. is destroyed the Tinker will not die, but he will be in serious risk because he was prepared for being a good fighter only while using his S.A.
In order to can summon the S.A. again, he would need to be out of combat, and once summoned the S.A. will have only a 10% from his total health. He will have to use a repair abalitie to fix it and recover all S.A. health. Like when we eat food to recover health, the repair abilitie will work only while we are out of combat and can’t be used in arenas.
To recover “fuel” he could drink, yes drinking to recover S.A. fuel by a passive abilitie called “Energy Recycling”.

  • No mounts needed, but you can get it and use it if you want:

Once you reach the proper levels to learn mounting, your S.A. will get abilities to increase his ground speed like as you get it when you summon any other mount, same thing for flying. Of course, you will need to be in your “S.A. form” to use those abilities.
You still could use other mounts, but not while you are using the S.A.

  • Starting Zone:

All Trinkers will have their own starting zone like DH and DK. In this scenario he will have a quest line in order to get his first Steam Armor. For that he would need to collect the necessaries stuffs to build it, workers to help them in the process, and also help to some special group or faction in order to get their favor. This group finally will aloud you to build and get your first Steam Armor as reward.

  • Steam Armor looks:

Your first S.A. will look very rusty and contaminant. But every 10 or 15 levels you will get a new appearance for your S.A… You can also mog this appearances, even more beyond the appearances you’ll get by leveling, you also could get diferents and new apareances by other means (quests, reputations, drops, engineer profesions items or plans, and so on).

  • Engineering, Alchemy and Blacksmithing could improve the Steam Armor:

Engineering by increasing the power or utility of some combat abilities. Alchemy by the way he recover fuel, or increasing their speed while is in any “mount state”, improving the functions of the “motors”. And Blacksmithing could increasing armor stats.

  • Races that could be Trinkers:

Gnomes and Goblins of course, no explanation needed. Dwarfs are engineering too, not so sophisticated like Goblins and Gnomes, but still engineer.
It’s fact lore that Draeneis have engineers (LF Draneis of course too), they are called Artificers, and they think about them self as something like “warriors engineers”. Their technology is very diferent to gobling and gnome technology, it’s related to crystals and magic, but still a form of technology. Blood elves and Nightbornes also have magic technology. So all those races could be Trinkers.
Horde Trinkers: Goblins, Nightborne, Blood Elves.
Alliance Trinkers: Gnomes, Dwarfs, Draeneis, LF Draeneis.

Well, that’s all. Give me your thoughts if you want. Cya!

Let’s not. There’s enough complaining as it is about classes and balancing

This is not a thread to claim and yell “Blizzard give us the Tinker class!”.

My point stands. Game doesn’t need new classes

You are not very smart.

Says the guy making a dumb post

Says the guy that have reading comprehension problems.

No. The game doesn’t need new classes until the Devs can figure out how to balance the ones they already have. Let’s not heap more on their heads just to yell at them that they “apparently have too much to do that they can’t even get class balance correct.” The game simply doesn’t have the resources to support yet another class. Blizz/Acti just fired 800 people. Geez. At this rate we’re going to be waiting for the “B” team to make yet another bad expansion.

From 2012: https://www.engadget.com/2012/02/29/blizzard-laying-off-600-staff-globally/

Later that same year we got monks.

In 2012, Activision wasn’t holding the reigns.

They’ve been merged since 2008.

During the entire lifetime of WoW, there has always been a class that took the unbalanced beating, almost exclusively shamans were always connected to that role. It didn’t stop them from creating monks, dks or dhs.

“On July 25, 2013 , Activision Blizzard announced the purchase of 429 million shares from majority owner Vivendi. As a result, Activision Blizzard became a completely independent company.”

While they have been merged since 2008, it wasn’t until 2013 that Activision exerted majority control.

The point is that they continue to add more classes and more and more they have struggled to make all classes relevant. It’s a thing.

You’re saying that like i’m not aware. I’ve never felt so penalized for being sentimental towards my BM hunter as now in BfA. However, they’re more disconnected from the fans than ever before, it would be right up their alley to introduce some new class that just overshadows everything else like how hero classes always go during their initial expansion.

I’m personally not impressed with the idea of a “Tinker” class, it just sounds kind of boring.

Edit: that doesn’t mean Blizzard couldn’t do something amazing with the idea, but I just don’t care for it so far.

How about we try and balance the classes / specs that we have in the game before introducing any more.

I love that idea.

I’d even so much as go for a whole new system, complete with a new UI, that can be used to customize your mech. Accessories, style, lighting, paint jobs, etc…the whole works. Would be a lot to ask but it’d be awesome.
