If terrible ideas like Heroic + (basically mythic trash which is a retail feature) are being implemented please add Xmog immediately. There is no downside, only upside.
Give me a reason to keep my sub active. Otherwise, as soon as content is cleared and I have P1 BIS I unsub for multiple months waiting on P2.
For the sweaty PVPers you can just disable xmog appearance in arenas. Besides PVP is dead anyways. It’s an extreme minority who care about it.

You’re not wrong about the downside, there is no downside to adding it. I’ve said this before and will say it again, Classic/TBC/WOTLK were absolutely the best iterations of WoW, that doesn’t mean they couldn’t have improved.
Never, they’ll only add stuff that ruins the game like Heroic+ and LFG tool. Never something harmless and fun or useful like Transmog or the retail AH.
Well that door has already been opened, knocked off the hinges, and sent to the landfill with all the changes they’ve already made. Does it really matter at this point.
WOTLK is already ruined, I don’t see how adding a few features that we’re going to get when they force Cata down our throats anyway will hurt it any further.
There really is no downside to a personal or toggle / opt in transmog system. This should really be a no brainer for them. Tons of people enjoy transmog and farming it, it would keep some casual people interested in the game who might not have the time or desire push end game content.
