Let's Talk Dual Spec A Discussion

Should it be in the game? Yes or no? Obviously not for regular classic era however SoD is a completely different beast. With the runes that are now in the game would players benefit from being able to be more versatile with their builds through dual spec? What do you think?

I’m for it.

I don’t see why SoD should be beholden to Vanilla “purity” at all. It’s about experimentation and theoretically, fun.

I’d be for many modern advances being added in.

Those who don’t want that have Classic.

No way man!!! We have mages healing and rogues tanking BUT DUAL SPEC IS WHERE I DRAW THE LINE!!! It just goes against what classic means!!!1111one…… oh and if they ever implement instant mail IM QUITTING SO FAST!!! Well I’ll cancel my year subscription and keeping playing till it ends…… but if it wasn’t for that I’d be OUT IMMEDIATELY!!!111one

Yeah, it’d probably be fine, but I’d want unlocking it to be sufficiently expensive, because it would need to offset the removal of the gold sink that is respec costs.

A spec for pvp and pve would be good. I can see it happening.

Right now, I’m basically multi-speccing through runes, running a Holy spec that can play all 3 roles. In phase 2, I want dual spec so I can continue to flex into roles that my guild needs. Fights like Kelris heavily reward hybrid specs and role shifting, and that’s incredibly cool.

I want it for utilitarian purposes. I very much enjoy playing my class holistically.

No… Specs are hard choices and part of the vanilla player fantasy. If you have to spend vanilla gold (more more valuable) on re-specs then that makes those choices even more meaningful and interesting.

Adding the runes and extra fun in Classic + SoD isn’t meant to take away from the core values of Classic. Dual spec unfortunately does.

Just put the damn dual spec in, nobody will hate it. Tell whatever purists who don’t like it to go back to Era.

What are these core values? Is there somewhere I can go and print them off?!?

Yup…

Values of Classic…

  • Anything worth having isn’t worth having without taking a long time to get…

  • Druids can’t resurrect…

  • Warriors must always start off slow and painful this builds character so that when they arrive at end game and dominate everything they have respect for others…

  • gold must have value…

  • Gnome are meant for punting…

  • Talents must be chosen carefully and with purpose…

  • Never bite off more than you can chew…

  • We roll on chests…

This is Season of Discovery, not Vanilla. If you want inconvenience for the sake of authenticity, Era is that way

Yes. Especially with the Healer Shortage we have right now it would be greatly appreciated in the long run to have the ability to swap between multiple specs.

Dual spec would be nice, I’d be more into the idea of them adding more cross spec runes into the game. From what I can tell, Warrior is the only class that doesn’t have an ability from another class thus far.

So being able to use maybe Death Grip or even Runeforging would be incredible, though I imagine broken in late game. Even taking something from the Monk class would be welcome. Maybe Healing Elixir.

I’m for experimentation. I just don’t want it to become Retail 2.0. Dual spec seems fair. You can easily swap Runes, they should at the very minimum just make spec swapping as seamless.

It should be a thing even for classic because its bad game design that I have to spend tons of gold to be able to enjoy different aspects of the game.

The best solution would be to let us change our talents for free at the trainer and don’t implement dual spec.

And yes that should be part of classic too.

I wouldn’t be opposed only because at that point addons take over for “Dual Spec” in allowing us to save multiple specs and easy swap them at talent resets whenever we go to an NPC.

But I like that because it makes returning to our trainers still important through the life of the game.

It’s a pretty game-changing thing and would obviously push those who follow the meta to require multiple specs for content that would benefit from it, and that would in-turn trickle down to the rest of the runs…

This has been discussed a lot of other places before, and I think some of the key points have been made well in this thread:

It came out in phase 3 of vanilla didn’t it?

Not like anyone has 1k gold to blow on that right now anyways.

Yeah swaping on the go is bad IMO, its better to make them free but at the trainer.

The way I see it is we’re already halfway there with seamless swapping between runes. Might as well ditch the half measure and go all out. Make dual spec a gold sink or a grind if they really want. Not being able to swap specs isn’t something I really understood anyways and it never really made the game better in any perceivable way in my opinion.
