Let's talk about Mechano-Cats

Most of the Mechagon meta achievement, I’m actually pretty okay with. I came into this knowing I wouldn’t get the Model W for quite some time. I’ve expected a few months, on my work schedule, of having to casually work for this and that I am perfectly alright with.

I just got lucky enough to see the last paint vial drop. Sweet, I’ve finally got Available in Eight Colors. I’ve always really enjoyed how you can customize your mechano-cat and, now that the achieve’s done, I have finally unlocked the blue color I’d wanted on my alt. So I logged over to my Gnome and brought them to Marvelous Martini only to find…

Not even Battletorn Blue, the achievement color unlock from getting every single paint vial is available. Every single one of them is character-specific. What reason could there be for this except to force players who want to customize their mount to grind and grind for hours on end across every character you intend to use it on? If I want Battletorn Blue on my alt, I will have to do the entire achievement over again. This design choice is infuriatingly shallow. Everything about BfA screams that Blizzard wants to drag out as much sub time, as much game time as is physically possible with their quest and dungeon design in a bid to keep us playing, but this takes this trend to a whole new low.

It could be somewhat understandable on some dim, faraway level of design that the individual paint vials are character-specific. After all, they drop from enemies and various other sources. I don’t agree with that but I’m not totally unreasonable; But the blue color is an unlock from completing an achievement and I have now completed that achievement. Achievements are account-wide. Should not their rewards be as well to make earning them worth the time and effort?

Overall, I’m left with a bad taste in my mouth. That doing this entire achieve was simply not worth it. That hunting down and finding these paint vials was just a general waste of time, another droll step in the Mechagon Meta Achieve towards an actual reward. I would not recommend this to anyone.

I guess that’s all I’ve got to say for now. I know Ion’s team don’t actually take the forums or that feedback into account. I’m more just posting this because I’ve got to guess that other people must have had the same experience too.

Yeah. That is lame. I wasn’t aware that it was locked to a specific character. Thank you for saving me a lot of wasted time.

I feel that anything that visually assists in defining the character that you are trying to present in the world should be shared across the account once earned with few exceptions. (thinking of some titles that relate to skill in class, and such)

This should not be locked to a character.

I like how every different quibble every different person has with the game automatically transforms into this nefarious scheme by Blizzard to steal your time and money.

It can’t just be “I don’t like this, can you change it?” It instead has to be “I don’t like this SO YOU’RE THE WORST DEVS IN THE HISTORY OF THE GAMING INDUSTRY AND I HATE YOU ALL!!!

That actually sucks

I have an opinion and it’s different than yours. It’s a common theme I’ve witnessed throughout my experience. You don’t have to agree with it, but if you’re not going to talk about the actual subject of the thread, your post is functionally useless to the discussion.

A few of you seem to be implying that you weren’t aware of this inane design decision. I’m glad to have at least made you aware of this. It’s a baffling and silly design choice.

The paint vials aren’t hurting or hindering any other aspect of the game. They’re purely a customization aspect. I see no reason why an achieve-locked vial shouldn’t be accessible by other characters on the account if there are no actual drawbacks. Blizzard has no reason to put this restriction in the game unless they’re trying to draw out game time. I can’t dream up any other reason why they’d decide to do this, it’s just such a shallow choice.

I must be the only one who misses when mounts were character-specific just to avoid entitlement threads like this.

That would be correct, yes.

I’m not surprised. It’s the gimme generation dictating this game.

Another way they could get around this and make it feel better for people might be to add all the tints to the mount pane. But then people would get a bunch of mounts towards meta achievements.

I’m not sure if I’ve seen any dialogue box, quest options change based on how much your other character has unlocked outside of skipping certain introductory quests lines from new expansions. I would more put it to an oversight or perhaps there’s some limitation we’re unaware of than being a grand scheme to make things worse for the player and get more time out of them.

That is news to me though, I haven’t really put a lot of time into my alts outside of nazjatar and leveling them.

It’s amazing how every generation is worse than the last one. Our parents told us we were lazy, selfish and shallow. It’s even more amazing how people will try to cling to any number of pseudo studies and observational “facts” to support their view.

Of course the succeeding generation is worse than yours. You have proof. It’s not at all like your parents saying the same thing, or their parents. Nope.

Fun fact:

No one gives a crap.

Was also disappointed to find this out. I was hoping once you earned the achievement it would unlock the other colors for alts, at least.

It isn’t a huge deal to me though, just means I won’t be using it.

We are lazy.

Yea, darn that rock and roll, polluting our kids minds!

You might be lazy, but that doesn’t mean all of us are lazy. It’s honestly kind of important to not compare generation to generation.

I don’t hand crank my own water, or hunt all of my own meat. I don’t hand write letters, or go to fifteen stores to find the one item I want. I turn on the faucet. I go to the store. I use email. I shop online. That’s not really “lazy” so much as it is using tools that surpass those tactics.

That’s literally what it means to be human. We make new tools, and then use those tools to do old tasks more efficiently.

Is the current generation, or at least our generation (assuming we’re the same one, I’m 31), “lazy”? By our standards, and the world we live in, no. Maybe it seems lazy to the older generation, but that’s how every generations works. We gave up useless tediums of the past in favor of more efficient tools of today.

At the same time, lazy has a connotation. It implies a sort of laissez faire detachment. We’re not doing that. Current generations show marked stress, anxiety, and unprecedented levels of mental health issues. We’re pressed from all sides to be as efficient and expedient as possible.

Compared to past generations, modern workers are more involved than ever. Not in the same ways, but they are. Most people report having to field work calls outside of work. Tolerating requests, questions, or advice, when they’re off the clock. We spend an exorbitant amount of time, compared to the past, acting in our job stead even beyond hours.

So… are we lazy?

No, we’re different. Suggesting that we’re less involved in our world than our parents were, or that we out less time into our jobs, well… that requires ignoring how the world works now.

Cheer up, there are prettier cats to ride.

Let me introduce to you the shado pan series…

I know! I was so disappointed to find that the gold painted mechano-cat did not transfer over when I summoned it on a leveling alt.

EDIT: I also want those Shado-pan tigers but… I keep putting off the rep grind.

I want a mecho cat. Which quest do I need to do or if its in a dungeon, which boss? Or can I make one using engineering.

“But it’s only a mount colour!!!”

Now try tell the forums about the 5 layer RNG on the Hearthstone Blueprint, I tried that, I gave up, players could not understand that any content, regardless of what it is should not be layered under so much RNG and play time, more so if it is completely pointless content that does nothing.

The hearthstone? You get one at level 1. The mount? You have a ground mount at level 20. Why the hell are we forced to grind this much for useless content that does nothing? Maybe if the mount gave 20% more movement speed on top of everything than sure, I will farm it. Maybe if the hearthstone gave another hearth location I would not care if it took 10 layers of RNG and 6 months to farm.

If we do not stop them from placing X layers of RNG than who is to say they will not do it for progression content? I mean, they already are in a way, your raid essence needs 63 of the random chance drop items to finish your R3 essence.

Sadly it is another thing to add to the list of stuff that isn’t alt friendly in BfA.
