Most of the Mechagon meta achievement, I’m actually pretty okay with. I came into this knowing I wouldn’t get the Model W for quite some time. I’ve expected a few months, on my work schedule, of having to casually work for this and that I am perfectly alright with.
I just got lucky enough to see the last paint vial drop. Sweet, I’ve finally got Available in Eight Colors. I’ve always really enjoyed how you can customize your mechano-cat and, now that the achieve’s done, I have finally unlocked the blue color I’d wanted on my alt. So I logged over to my Gnome and brought them to Marvelous Martini only to find…
Not even Battletorn Blue, the achievement color unlock from getting every single paint vial is available. Every single one of them is character-specific. What reason could there be for this except to force players who want to customize their mount to grind and grind for hours on end across every character you intend to use it on? If I want Battletorn Blue on my alt, I will have to do the entire achievement over again. This design choice is infuriatingly shallow. Everything about BfA screams that Blizzard wants to drag out as much sub time, as much game time as is physically possible with their quest and dungeon design in a bid to keep us playing, but this takes this trend to a whole new low.
It could be somewhat understandable on some dim, faraway level of design that the individual paint vials are character-specific. After all, they drop from enemies and various other sources. I don’t agree with that but I’m not totally unreasonable; But the blue color is an unlock from completing an achievement and I have now completed that achievement. Achievements are account-wide. Should not their rewards be as well to make earning them worth the time and effort?
Overall, I’m left with a bad taste in my mouth. That doing this entire achieve was simply not worth it. That hunting down and finding these paint vials was just a general waste of time, another droll step in the Mechagon Meta Achieve towards an actual reward. I would not recommend this to anyone.
I guess that’s all I’ve got to say for now. I know Ion’s team don’t actually take the forums or that feedback into account. I’m more just posting this because I’ve got to guess that other people must have had the same experience too.
