Not just equipment slot, but every color that changes on that item. Just for the sake of argument, let’s say two extra. One for the main color, and one for the trim colors. Those would have to be loaded onto every client that sees them. Right now, every texture comes pre-loaded onto every client. That’s part of the reason WoW’s size has increased so much. The performance hit would be huge, because nearly everyone would have their own colors.
People say, “Well, other games have had this for decades.” While that’s true, most of them only have a half-dozen colors at most. They also don’t have the sheer numbers WoW does, nor do they have the massive gear selection as WoW, either.
If they were to make a WoW 2, in order to accommodate for a dye system, they’d have to severely cut back on the variety of gear they readily give us just for the game to function as well as it does now.

This is why it’s better just to have a dye system so we can make things actually match our mogs.

So I decided to buy the other gun from the BMAH vendor. It, too, looks wonderful, but it is JUST off-colored enough to not really match with anything either. I just don’t understand.

Mine is driving me crazy. Because it sits right there on my back, next to the rest of the gold like a shining beacon of, “You paid all that gold for me and I stick out like a sore thumb! Hahahahaha!”

Yeah…I tried to make it work, but I gave up out of frustration.

True LOL
I just find it interesting that practically none of us would be caught dead out in our world wearing a color-coordinated pants suit with matching hat gloves and shoes - yet in Warcraft it is the pinnacle of avatar fashion.
Armani, Prada, Gucci, Chanel, Belenciaga and Louis Vuitton take note!
They are nice to look at, but definitely way out of my price range in that game. Even if I had the gil (I do not) I don’t think I could justify spending it on any of these.
But that is also fine. Having gold sinks like this available is never a bad thing…so long as they stick around and give players something to work toward. Not this limited time nonsense WoW is trying with the BMAH vendor, and have done with other things in the past like the Brutosaur.

Yeah, I spend all my gil on pastel pink dye.

There’s definitely a market for those. I sell those when I get them and they go pretty fast.

I’m sitting on 856 Venture Coffers and counting right now. Waiting for before Dawntrail to open my stash on a live stream and see what I get to sell!

I know people don’t like the FFXIV suggestion argument, but … This is exactly why I’d love the “Tint customisation” feature for gear in WoW. lol
Even their dye system isn’t perfect. Some of the results can range from “Wow! That really works!” to “How did this even happen? ” depending on the piece, its textures and the color. Still, I’d love to have that here, warts and all, even though I know it will probably never happen.
They tried a dye system already in BfA. It looked like poo. And then they told us that’s what they’d be reduced to doing, due to how the art and painting/shading works in this engine.
We’ll get player housing before we’d ever get a dye system— and we’re never getting player housing.

It’s still at least give some extra variety to what we currently have.
I feel like they tried arguing that the dye system in general didn’t work, but in reality it was just their dye system – They should’ve just advanced & developed it into a better one.
— Well that being said, never say never
I had people tell me we’ll never have warbands when I suggested we should get a feature like that, and here we are looking towards them @ the next expansion

Double bonus if you try to mix Alliance themed PvP sets where none of the blues or golds match
