Windwalker is not strong because of the tier set, it’s strong because of other things. If they balance us by changing the tier set then next tier will have to be equally weak.
When something hits A or S tier, it doesn’t automatically prompt them for “Needing” a nerf.
Especially when in many, if not most cases — They get over nerfed and collapse down to C tier …
WW monks rarely get their time in the limelight - and in the few cases they have, it’s been very – nay, EXTREMELY – short lived in comparison to other classes that do.
Yes, such as fire mage, who also got a small nerf and no compensation buff. This is just how balancing works.
Sure, it has happened in the past that specs get overnerfed. But this is a 4% aura nerf, it ends up being about 3.7% overall. Pretty hard for small numbers like that to go out of control.
Blizzard is intentionally being careful.
(Let’s not talk about “tiers” as if that’s some kind of useful or objective metric.)
Also I’m still curious why you think it would be “hypocritical” to nerf ww when it’s an outlier.
No, because like I mentioned – In most cases they get OVER nerfed and collapse to lower tiers …
You can argue that “Oh but then they scale them back up” — but such isn’t always the case.
They nerfed Brewmaster monk ages ago and they’ve been mediocre garbage for quite a long while now. They’re quite literally the least played tank in the game.
WW monks tend to get overnerfed all the time whenever they surpass subpar …
As people have pointed out also amongst other threads, in many cases there’s rarely that many WW monks in raids too.
So at the moment, yes they’re in the more stronger category, but they’re not in the ridiculous numbers categories of which we’ve had in the past with other classes — where they’re flooring everyone by ridiculously stupid amounts; not to mention within different content & scenarios their performance is still circumstantial with their toolkit.
Slight nerf & scaling, like they’ve already been doing? Sure, I can see that. No worries. BIG nerf though?? Nope. Garbage take. Garbage decision. Period.
Sorry, but quotation needed. There have been one or two moments where a nerf felt really unjustified and unnecessary, but it’s hardly the norm. Most often, nerfs are just like the current one that will barely be felt and quickly forgotten.
But this is a small nerf. I really don’t see how it’s anything else.
Hmm I think we might have got confused or come to a misunderstanding with one another.
Upon my first commentary on this thread – I was speaking more towards another later and hypothetical nerf in response to WW monks current status – Replying to the OP’s thread itself, not a very particular nerf that’s already been applied which may have been mentioned later in the comments.
Benefit of the doubt:
Just to be clear – I don’t really have too much issue with the current nerfs already applied or confirmed to be done-so later. Is it irksome? Sure, I guess. But class breaking or utterly outrageous? Hardly.
Now Elemental Shaman having the rework on Primordial Wave?? Now THAT’S another story … But alas, I won’t invade the monk thread with much of the playerbase’s frustrations on Shaman
They should delete Slicing Winds and send it back to plunderstorm. While they’re at it, Blizz should also delete FLS from the WW tree so a future where we have to pick it up is significantly less likely. Possibility is nice and all, but Blizz should absolutely not be worrying about making other things viable while we still have a bunch of buggy crap and unoptimized crap.
