I haven’t played pally since WOD, so here I am trying to learn one. I am already discouraged by doing even skirmish. gear disparity , my skill level on h pally, other player being toxic since I do make mistakes. (FYI i was 2400 on my MW in BFA season 1)
Given I have 27k still, here I am chilling waiting for druid to come out of the stealth with my hoj ready. He comes out I am trying to turn my camera since he’s behind me but then I die.

Ok if I had 40k I would have left 14k hp to be able to Hoj and heal to full but 27. So basically if you below 30k hp and trying to actually get into stressful job of healing in arena you get even more discouraged.
Who the hell would want to heal this meta with this balance. There is no chance outplaying certain abilities and this is totally wrong.
I mean I see what you are saying. Convoke is very strong and should be looked at without being gutted. Like make it not triggerable till 5 seconds out of stealth. However to say it’s not counterable as a paladin seems a bit exaggerated. What would you like to see? It completely gone? That’s take away a huge thing for balance druids and who wants there class gutted?
Argueably what about Venthyr druids and Necro Druids? Convoke makes 2 playstyles completely gutted, You HAVE to roll convoke if you want to be competitive as Night Fae “But the high end players are using Kyrian!” Yeah no, they’ve begun to shaft kyrian as well for Convoke. It completely breaks the playstyle for any diversity within the spec.
Yeah I guess in pvp only? Convoke full moons pretty strong in pve too I guess. Or maybe make max 1 full moon. Or maybe just don’t have convoke build astral power. Then convoke is the only threat not the three star surges after
Yeah which is what I don’t want. I’m not even balance lol but it just plays more in to that gotta be flavor month to play game and I think class diversity is a good thing for the game
I fully understand that gear matters now so much…where i will perceiver , will get gear and will get gut but what about other casuals that actually could join the rank of healers but would be so discouraged being just like me…
At least in other expansions even with low gear but some skill you can still do ok to certain level but SL…
I see what you are saying. Healing sucks sometimes when you get one shot. But convoke isn’t the only thing out there that one shots. Combust can ww monks can rest pallies can. And I use one shot loosely here. Maybe it’s be better if I set multiple shots quick succession
You die because you have no gear and no hp. The unfortunate things with coming later on in the scene is; a lot of players already have gear. Most are sitting at 33-40k hp easily by now, which if you were here at the start you’d be living because their convokes did not do that much damage right off the bat. They did do enough to 1 shot you in that 4 second channel, but, that gave you 4 seconds to react to it and either HoJ, bubble or something else.
Coming in later puts people at a MAJOR disadvantage. It’s unfortunate, but it happens with any game any where at any time, and with real life stuff, too. If you started your first job at the age of 22 or 25, you’re way behind when most people start their first job at 16 years or so of age, so they’ve already got almost a decade of experience compared to that person just starting out. Life ain’t fair in that way, nothing is really.
You just have to suck it up and deal with it or figure out something else with your time/worth your time investment.
Convoke doesn’t really need a nerf or anything, it’s already easily counterable by people with gear. Just need to get gear.
As I mentioned yes I understand I am not geared still at 184 ilvl I shall not be dying in under 1sec.
Also convoke is definitely need hefty nerf or anything, even AWC showed how OP ability is.
Lastly i am not coming like 4 seasons later , my gear should be ok not to die in the opener.
No, you’re coming in to the season 6 weeks behind what everyone else did if you just started this week. Literally puts you 30 or so ilvls behind a lot of players, which in other expansions would not be as big since secondaries mattered more. In this expansion they swapped it around to make primary stats mean more to most if not all specs than secondary stats do, which puts you way behind in terms of strength, stamina and just ability to even react.
The later in the season you start the worse your disadvantage becomes and more apparent it becomes, too.
Not to be blunt or hurt your feelings but your gear is trash atm. Mine is, too, with my being 205 item level atm in PvP gear and I still get wrecked easily, at 205. You think 184 should be fine? No, you haven’t even gotten gear to 197 yet so yeah, no. You will be 1 shotted, and no it doesn’t do overpowered damage unless you do not stop it. It has a 4 second channel, that’s 4 seconds of you to use ANY CC any interrupt anything at all to stop it. They just bait people’s interrupts and CDs, then use it when they know people cannot stop the cast for the full effect.
Rets are able to global people on live right now. The Tournament realms allow players to play characters in highest level gear. That’s how it will look in the end, at the very back end of the season, not how it is right now. Right now, as a Ret with 205, you can pop wings and global people in arenas. If you’re higher than that you could global even more people during your Avenging Wrath burst.
