I just never found them interesting tbh, primarily because other than one side character they never had any lore presence at all until Mists, and then after Mists they didn’t really do much either. If they were integrated into the story more then I might start to find them interesting.
Just saying. If it’s always hatred of furries then I guess it started for me when I rolled a tauren, hated it, and deleted it. Pandas weren’t the catalyst.
I guess I just prefer traditional looking humanoids. I can’t even do the short races, so…
Edit: I did play a Goblin lock for a while back in BfA but he’s been benched since before SL.
Except Pandaren predate Kung Fu Panda. They’re a common theme in the art of Samwise Didier.
My comment’s meant mainly for the sort that go after furry things proactively.

Me too, this thread should be more about hatred of the Drackthyr Lizard people, than a race whose time led to love and the best lore in all of WoW.
Pandarens should deserve more respect.

My kids love Kung Fu Panda. MoP absolutely took inspiration from the film, as well as asian culture. It’s undeniable.
It’s okay to like them, it’s okay to not be bothered by the similarities, but it’s also okay to think it’s kind of silly.

That doesnt matter, tho. The biggest complaint was konfu panda or pandas dont belong in wow when they came in.
Yeah, could’ve probably stood to use a qualifier that better sorted it. That tends to be what I see happen though, and that tends to be the crowd it comes from.
Yet it does matter, the race and lore predate that set of works.

I would say in a lot of ways the Furry community is similar to the cosplay one, especially in relation to art/making stuff between suits and props.

They idle animation jitter and look around too much for me to have one personally, but the amount of 25-35 year old men who STILL “LOL PANDALAND KUNGFU PANDA, PANDAS, PANDAMEN, PANDALAAAAAAAAAAAND” is insufferable
Going back and reading the MoP lore made me appreciate it so much more than I did at the time, Lei Shen is such a badass he could have been an expansion big bad all on his own, I had no idea what we were doing involving him in the scenarios/raid, no idea of his history at the time - looking forward to remix and paying attention

I was never into pandas, but still remember right after pandaria came out a female panda randomly wanted ERP, and that was the only time in 20 years that happened to me. I just watched her dance for maybe 30 seconds, then said “it was nice meeting you” and left.
That’s one of the things that i love about them. All that ancient Chinese style with the huge red archways, cool looking dragons, paper lanterns and the rice hats
