Let us pay for name change. This isn’t TBC so just activate the service.
If you really feel like the service could be used maliciously, add a right click menu option called “Aliases” that shows all previous names for the character.

Selling name, model, and race changes (within same faction) would all have been more ideal than boosts. Hell, tokens would have been more ideal than boosts. They decided to pick the worst thing to sell.
Furthermore, there was plenty of old unobtainable pets/mounts already in the game they could have now sold. You want a zergling pet or turtle mount? Too bad. You can’t get one, even though they were in the game back then.
Edit: Another one for the block list. Some people need to worry more about word definitions and less about mocking my posts.

Yeah trying to wipe my name on mega servers where everyone is anonymous. Please tell me how do people ninja things in 2021?
Dungeon ninja pretty much doesn’t matter. Just run the dungeon again or stop bringing people who can roll against you on it.
So that leaves raids. Anyone who sets up raid loot in such a way that it can be ninja’d, deserves to have it stolen from them. They’re too stupid to be trusted with loot.

… I get it you’re being sarcastic but people actually believe this is the only reason anyone would EVER want a name change.
Ignoring whether it should be in Classic or not, I think some characters changes should simply be free, albeit limited.
Allow a name change on an account after you’ve played for 3 months.
Likewise with char transfers. Let people move to a new server IF THEY WANT. Just limit it so it can’t be done that often.
I for one support paid name change. I don’t think I would use it, but I certainly like the idea of being able to freshen things up once in a while.
And if you are concerned about ninja looters ‘hiding’, then just run stuff with your guildies
