Season of Discovery Phase 3 is almost here and it was announced that the Dungeon Finder wouldn’t be included with Season of Discovery, at least from the start.
I am interested in knowing everyone’s thoughts about this. There has been a lot of topics on the subject and I’ve read a lot of arguments both in favor and against the Random Dungeon Finder in Season of Discovery.
The Random Dungeon Finder is a very contentious issue that is important to a lot of people, whether they are in favor or against it. I wish to see if perhaps there could be a more favorable approach to it that could be presented to blizzard.
There is no ways to satisfy everyone of course, but having a good healthy discussion about it is a good way for as many people as possible to be heard.
So I’m asking you this:
How do you feel about Dungeon Finder not being added to Season of Discovery?
What do you think are the positives of having Dungeon Finder?
What do you think are the negatives of having Dungeon Finder?
Do you think an hybrid solution could be implemented, whether it be a partial Dungeon Finder or a different solution altogether, and what could that solution be, if you can think of any?
My personal thought on this:
I feel that the complete removal of Dungeon Finder is a too heavy handed approach and I would like to see a more moderate approach to it, or at the very least for Blizzard to provide more insight on their reasoning for the removal.

RDF was terrible in retail but has been great in WOTLK classic. It is nice to get instant trips to the dungeons and it has helped with gatekeeping to some extent.
Season of Discovery seems like blizzard’s testing ground, so it might be a good place to try it. RDF could help with the healer situation and sod gatekeeping.
I personally dont like the idea. While its a qol improvement, i dont play the game to be lazy or just click a queue button. I enjoy looking for a group while i do other things. I dont know, im all about keeping a majority of the retail stuff out, although it WOULD be nice.
I wouldn’t be against it since, like stated, it’s a good way for them to test it in this version. Heck, I’d even be okay with it having a limit (say, 10 times) per day, per character.
I think more people need to go into SoD with open minds instead of simply trying to force era on it.
RDF in SoD wouldn’t be the best idea IMO. It would kill the community. It works in retail/wotlk because in wrath wow started to turn into a more dungeon crawler mmo instead of what classic is.
“Was” is past tense. I think people liked it at first but started getting tired of it in Cata. Eventually the current player based accepted it.
Past tense, but, if you want the truth, retail is confusing for me. I log in and I have no idea where I am even. The menus might as well be in a foreign language because I am lost.
I am old though so don’t mind my opinion on retail. My character is Audie Murphy…. You probably don’t want my opinion on movies either.
But I am open to trying new things in SOD. Tbh once again…it is probably helping me get to know retail.
Thanks for explaining. Seems like most people just like to yell retail bad any chance they get. Only enough I don’t think I’ve used rdf in retail in a really long time since I’ve been pushing high keys and mythic raiding.
RDF now I. Retail is used to do dungeons with AI mainly
For classic, the only one I would really like is just a way to organize groups. Much like Custom LFG feature is in Retail right now where you can scan for M+ or raids.
The LFG Channel is maddening to find something because everything scrolls soooo fast.
Dungeon Finder should only be available to previous phases content IMO. I typically don’t want Dungeon Finder in my classic iterations, however, 1-25 is dead. It’s dead because we had 3 months to level every class from 1-25. And we’ll have 3 months to get those toons from 25-40. Previous phases content is destined to become a ghost town.
RDF was pretty much the final nail in the coffin for Wrath. It removed necessity to communicate, names/classes become roles. Healer was no longer (Ex name) “priestitute” it was just “healer” because communication to get them into the group was not necessary, and isn’t really necessary since you can boot them if things go sideways and just scroll the forums while you wait for a new healer to be slotted in.
No thanks. I don’t need any more “Alone surrounded by players” kinds of WoW.
Isn’t a real thing just a word people use when they want to play the victim.
OT: I wouldn’t mind a tool that allows people to list themselves for specific dungeons/raids with their role and such. Any tool that auto forms groups and/or teleports the group to the instance is a huge no go from me. The the fact that players must traverse the lands to get to their destination is a big part of the vanilla world and should not be lost.
