Less than 3% Have Completed a Single Mage Tower Challenge

Yeah, Xylem. I watched a video and think i have a better idea of the timing now. I’ll change my build and see.

Its not about ilvl its about stats and sockets. And also cheesy trinkets and knowing which potions actually scale in timewalking. Every small thing helps, I got annoyed enough to start dropping camp fires on pull for that 1 vers just to be petty during some of my prog.

I have literally put more people on ignore over these mage tower threads than I had on ignore in the first place.

It’s not worth arguing with these people who want to be special.

Also, to Petdetective and every other person saying it’s fine: If you wanted a hard challenge? Congrats you got it.

But lower the difficulty now. Oh wait, you wanted to beat it while it was hard? Well, I guess you shouldn’t have skipped it in Legion then, right? Or you had the last 2 weeks to do it.

Don’t like your own logic being used against you, do you?

No ilvls are absolutely not working right. Some items have +5 more stats when scaled to 50 than others. Go in and test it yourself. The stat distribution is insane.

This is how 250ivl people have ~7.6k health and you 180ilvl people have 7k health. It’s also more than health. They also do a lot more damage.

Just take some 250 pieces into the instance and compare it to 180ivl pieces. Both scaled down to 50.

Yeah he’s a bit of a fun one, and the P2 DPS check is very tight. On my gemmed/enchanted set w/flask, sharpened stone and primary stat food, I still had to use drums and pot (maybe not both but when I figured out I had to use something extra I used both) to get P2 done. Just keep that in mind. Also, don’t forget the Crusader enchant (that outhealed Second Wind every time  ).

Oh also, patience in the Ice can save you a lot of grief. Think victory rush/impending victory after each spike is killed off. You get 3 seconds in the ice before taking damage, but even so, relying on VR/IV can be much more useful than trying to rush-rush-rush out of it. I also recommend saving heroic leaps for the “get to the glitter” phase, and just use a bit of patience there as well to take advantage of the shield healing and such.

If you present stats, but have no idea how the stats are derived or what they mean, you haven’t provided evidence.

250 shadowlands gear is the same as lfr shadowlands gear. It scaled down.

Sounds like user error.

Actually renown gives health.

I have. They scale the same way.

Just fooled around with my 244 mage throwing on pieces of off expansion gear and my normal raid set. It just seems like stat budgets to me. Like theres just weird ones like heart of azeroth having more secondary stats by a large margin or azshkramas having 2 extra secondary stats in its budget. Also noticed having a mainhand offhand vs a staff netted 1 stam and azerite gear’s budget includes 10 extra stam vs gear with secondary stats. Enchants also made a big differences since equipping ashkramas lowed my health due to lack of back enchant.

Characters a tailor and I even tried equiping green tailor gear over my sod stuff and health wouldn’t change just stats.

But the important thing is you most certainly can make a stupid set of gear for mage tower that gives an easy 100-300 dps, its just not from mythic sod its from torghast socket farming or old raid diving+nazjatar potions.

I know i shouldnt but oh please do open my eyes and educate me .

Here’s the wise guy. Explain good sir!

Quick Oxxein Ring (230)
12 Stamina
36 Haste
14 Vers
+6 haste (socket)

68

Soul of the Netherlord (Legendary)
+12 stamina
+9 crit
+14 haste
+11 mastery
+6 haste (socket)

52

So I’ll repeat. Ivl scaling is absolutely borked. I’ll admit I don’t have a 250+ piece but the 230 pieces are scoring a lot better than other stuff down the line.

How dare you present logic!!!

Soul of the netherlord has a lower stat budget when designed because of its legendary effect. Some legendaries had higher stat budgets. They are legendaries.

If you grab shadowlands lfr gear and the same shadowlands mythic gear… They scale exactly the same.

On what?

Don’t even get me started on the trinkets.

My shadowlands trinkets as guardian do nothing. I’ve tried pretty much my entire 32 slot bag of trinkets I have in my bank, all of them do practically no damage. EDIT: And the ones that do, like Hymnal of the Path? Are COMPLETE RNG. I’ve had fights where it did literally no damage or healing, because it just didn’t proc. I’ve had fights where it did 5-8% of my damage. It’s ridiculous.

MEanwhile, a quick run to Emerald Nightmare, get the trinket from Nythendra, and it does 20% of my dps.

Here’s my druid breakdown of her 5 or 10% Kruul Attempt (can’t remember which anymore).

The blacked out names are old trinkets or gear.

25% from a single trinket. 8% from another. 6% from another piece of gear. 1.4% from another.

Almost half my damage was from gear that I had to go out and farm.

And as someone who isn’t going to drop 200k on consumables, this is without augment runes or potions.

Why? Because the fun people on Proudmoore decided to jack up the price of the Unbridled Rage potions to like 5k each. That’d be 10k an attempt. Augment Runes aren’t much better.

EDIT: Also, for the record, the Brambles damage there, 1.5% of my damage, is from THREE uses of Barkskin. And the only reason I even lost that attempt? Because Kruul one-shot me with his first annihilate even though I had 2 Ironfur up and Barkskin. meanwhile, I watch other druids attempts, and they don’t even take 15% from the first annihilate.

Scaling is messed up MASSIVELY in there.

Here’s another one!

Ley-Touched Cord of the Quickblade (Benthic waist 50)

  • 11 int
  • 16 stamina
  • 12 crit
  • 9 vers
  • 9 leech

57

Shadowlace Cord (168)

  • 11 int
  • 16 stamina
  • 11 haste
  • 11 mastery

    49

I think I see the bug. If an item has one less affix the stats are not balancing appropriately. So you just lose 10 random stats.

   Please tell me that you read the post before replying dude . Now go over to what you replied in reference from by reading that whole post . Thanks .

Stat budgets for many items are wonky, the talent rings in legion are definitely one of them in a bad way. Here’s an opposite example, shadowlands cloak gives 16 secondary stats, azjkramas gives 6 of 3 aka 18 secondary stats, shadowlands neck gives 50 secondary stats whlie heart of azeroth gives 3 23s also known as 69 secondary stats(but no socket). Another one is that stupid neck from the desmotain that gives like extra stam, no mastery, and mana when healed. There are some items that just don’t have the same stat budget and its exploitable.

Heres another one the mechagon rings have the same stats as everything else but the bonuses exist. Like the mage tower is overtuned and scaling is bad but its not because you need mythic sod gear for it, the real mage tower gearing is so so much dumber.

Exactly and people gaslight. Dude I’m watching a warlock grill Tugar for 1.5k 100-85% before he gets off his first bile spitters. I’m doing EXACTLY the same rotation and nowhere near 1.5k with the same cooldowns and buffs.

The itemization is borked.

Exactly.

As I said, I quite literally have gotten one shot through 2 layers of Ironfur AND Barkskin on Kruul’s FIRST annihilate.

Whereas I literally watch people streaming this and not even take 15% damage with zero defensives up.

THen there’s the damn infernals. I watched a video of a guy using weird trinkets that summoned minions to down the first boss before 2 infernals spawn.

He was within the Infernal’s smash, and didn’t get hit. I’m no where near the smash and somehow go flying off the edge from it.

Another big one is the profession powers, supposedly the nazjatar damage potions just outscale everything else by a mile, even alot of the “lol I did this with no gear challenge” attempts still can’t part with their potions of unbridled fury.
