This makes absolutely zero sense. I have multiple Mage tower appearances from various specs and the Spellwing, saying that the mage tower appearances fit into a category of being prestigious to the point of not being obtainable again while the Spellwing isn’t makes no sense what so ever. The mage tower fights were not anymore harder then AoTC Argus, quite the opposite actually, most could be blasted down pretty easily with Normal or Heroic Antorus gear if you had chosen to wait till then to do the challenges. If you did them in Tomb patch, then yes, they were quite challenging, but again, not anymore challenging then what AoTC Argus was when it was current. If either of these were going to be made available, it should be the Mage tower appearances, not the Spellwing, especially after what happened with MoP Remix not making the AoTC Garrosh mount available. Don’t get me wrong, I am very happy the Spellwing will be obtainable to everyone with remix, but the mage tower appearances need to be as well. They are not anymore prestigious then the Spellwing and should be available just as the Spellwing is.
The Mage Tower was and still remains woefully unbalanced, too. Heck, I got my MT skin for BM by putting on some legendary pants and standing in one spot, only moving to dodge something occasionally. Meanwhile, my other characters struggled quite hard. Maybe they should focus more on providing real balance for these things.
Yup, I one shot the disc priest challenge in questing and some lfr antorus gear, and did most of the tank appearances with mediocre tank leggos in less then 5 runs.
Strongly disagree that the mage tower was as hard as AOTC.
Heroic raiding is borderline brainlessly easy. It’s so easy people were selling runs of it with multiple characters in the group buying carries for the Spellwing originally.
The only mage tower challenges that compare in difficulty might be the tank DH one, which was an absolute joke as you could ignore the mechanics that knocked you off the platform.
I’m just happy we’re crying about something other than the story for a change.
Also I think re-colors should have happened for MT.
How about as hard as flawless mythic raiding? Since that reward is back too.
Not mage tower though. Blizzard knows people want that to come back so they decided to instead make themselves into a circus.
I also think it makes more sense to have the skins than the Spellwing. I haven’t played Pandaria Remix, but if I did, I’d want the AOTC mount, but apparently it didn’t, so what’s the point of selecting these rewards?
And the MT fights were borderline brainless to do in Antorus gear, most mechanics wouldn’t one shot you with the increased health at that point, you could cut down the fight time by a significant margin with Antorus gear due to the increase in DMG and the Argus trinkets, which required doing less mechanic rotations lowering the chance for mess ups and potential wipes. I was there, I know what I saw, I know what I did.
Well, there goes all my interest.
Yes it does. Transmog items have always been the more sought after items, mounts are a dime a dozen. You get a mount, you are done, you can’t do anything with it, it’s just another +1.
Facts. I have like 5 mounts I use at most. Most of them are fairly ugly. But mogs are life.
Yea I read this earlier. Sucks. I’ll never get the white bear and that makes me sad. Lol… I’m probably not good enough to beat it, but I’ll never try again I know that much. Honestly a shame. I don’t understand it…but for some reason it’s too special to bring back. Smfh…whatever. Just one less reason to log in.
Spellwing was definitely harder to “earn”. Back then, pugging culture wasn’t good enough to pug AotC, so for many people, the only hope they had was to buy a carry or get in on one of those Friendship Birb runs.
Meanwhile my friend and I leveled up alts and smashed the Mage Towers in completely unoptimised catch up gear without really learning any of the specs… within a month.
Agreed!
I’m hoping they might still do this. Kaivax’s post didn’t specifically exclude it, so maybe?
While I am not normally a fan of FOMO practices, I think this is the right decision. At some point there has to be a reason to do things when they are current. Now that we know Remix is a thing they intend on continuing, there have to be some ground rules, lest we trivialize current content. Why do it now when I can just wait a couple years and have it handed to me.
That being said, I am not a fan of bringing the Spellwing back either. It sends an inconsistent message. Why reward PvP’rs and Soloers, but then tell raiders that their accomplishments are less worthy of enshrinement?
IMO they need to keep challenging content available in the game. Instead of removing things when it’s no longer “current.” Leave it in the game and keep it just as challenging as it was. It’s insane that they can put rare mounts on vendors, trading post, or buff the drop rates but they draw the line at allowing players to do challenging content for rewards. “Oh hey sorry you didn’t play at this time you can’t get this but we might throw it on the trading post later.” A lot of us are sick of that mindset. Give us something to WORK for. There’s always seasonal content droughts. Instead of the dumb time-gated mini events they throw in to try and keep us entertained they should leave stuff like the mage tower appearances in the actual game as something for players to do and work towards when they want to. It’s still a challenge. Make old content relevant again. Nothing feels special anymore at this point. Everyone has everything, rare stuff is handed out for free. A lot of veteran players are moving over to RuneScape because there’s just nothing to do anymore. Everyone can just have everything easy. They’re trying so hard to appeal to new players and losing a lot of the ones that have played for over a decade in the process. If blizzard keeps going down this route WoW will be a dead game before we know it. Not trying to be a doomer but you can’t ignore the community feed back and expect people to keep wanting to play the game.
Yes. It does.
One is a raid mount. The other is a challenge mode reward.
Challenge modes from Mists, Warlords and Legion are not raids. They are their own thing. And Blizz has made that very clear.
Geebus I’m getting tired of muting so many threads. At this point, I’m not even responding anymore. Y’all won’t listen anyway.
Well, I’m for consistency, why is the spellwing coming back but not the kor’kron war wolf? And if they start bringing back stuff from old raids, why not stuff most people missed as we’re at it, like the amani war bear, black proto, crusader’s warhorses, black qiraji battle tank?
So far they didn’t bring back ahead of the curve mounts, so it’s kinda strange how this one is different.
Agree with the DH few posts above though: just don’t remove stuff and these problems won’t be there.
People listen, you’re just talking about things that aren’t relevant. Both are limited time items that have to be earned during the expansion and were going away “permanently” and now they are bringing some back but not others. Doesn’t matter if it was from a raid, a solo challenge, M+, a pet battle, or solving a rubix cube.
But even allowing that argument, just compare the kor’kron war wolf and the spellwing: mop ahead of the curve vs legion ahead of the curve, why’s one different? Cause of better look?
