Legion Artifacts Squished Too Low

It’s actually a minor change to the system that could be propagated across all relics.

They replaced all the relinquished gear tokens with tokens that provide new style of rewards. I had a lot of the older ones in the bank, and when I used them I could see the loot changes between the new ones and the older ones.

I don’t think that’s the solution, though. I think the artifact itself should scale like an heirloom as you level in Legion content, while you can put relics of your choice in it.

It absolutely is, if you get the good relics in it that you can sometimes get from dungeons, world quests, or unsullied or relinquished gear tokens,

You do realize they have different teams working on different things right? It’s not like they have all hands on deck working on the expansion. Also, if they have time to do change water, change how rep works in MoP, and change the item level requirements on weapons in every legion quartermaster, they can also do these like change quest rewards. Furthermore, as the other poster replied to you, it doesn’t require as much work as you are thinking. Just changing how the scaling for the artifact and relics work would also be sufficient.

You are reinforcing what I said earlier. They have made the artifact weapons be the strongest things to obtain now at level 50, or even just hope into Legion with weapons from a different expansion, bang out for some relics, and then go elsewhere. My actual gripe was having them be so weak if you go in there at a higher level without any weapon already.

Right. And then you add the artifacts, which for me so far has made the legion weapon consistently higher ilvl than my heirloom weapon, for instance.

At level 39 here I have a 43 level artifact weapon. Heirloom weapon is 39. So the legion weapon is a good +4 levels ahead…

BfA has been the expansion where you can go without weapon drops essentially indefinitely. What annoys me is they went back into gear we earned and worked up in an older expansion, nerfed it, and now we have to go back and grind it up again.

It would not surprise me if they were planning to do this in the future. Imagine having your neck neutered in 10.0 and having to go back and grind it up again.

Don’t forget the small amount of quests in BFA rewarding a neck piece, chest, helm, or shoulders.

My artifact weapon on the shaman I played in Legion is level 70 but it’s got decent relics in it too.

70 isn’t terrible.

It’s really not end-game artifact weapon I’m complaining about. Pretty much all my alts are now using them after levelling up somewhere else because you can go to legion, open up world quests, and in a short time have a better weapon then you could gain from levelling or any other immidiate content.

My original gripe was having an alt that began doing Legion content, which was a previously boosted character, and discovering the artifact I had at level 40 and had been using was now nerfed down to level 20.

I ended up just doing BFA content and returned later, solo some dungeons and world quests, and ended up with a stronger weapon than the one I got at level 50.

My annoyance was simply not having a useful weapon at level 40 when I began legion content, and then the ones available by the quartermaster ALSO became unuseable. It was the first time I couldn’t just quest through Legion like I had done for the past two years.

A crafted 400 staff before the prepatch is now 72. A 425 polearm from an air supply drop is now 81.

Fair enough. It sounds like they should give out more powerful artifact relics whilst leveling then.

Having a weak weapon can seriously hamper performance.

In dungeons and end content relics can forge to ilvl 60. It looks like maybe a 10-20% rate. Some of my characters had some really nice relics earned in Legion that got nerfed so they could grind the artifact again.

I’d be happy with the scaling for relics being tweaked along with having the base artifact weapon scaled. Alternatively, have the quartermaster sell weapons for different level ranges. He previously existed specifically to supply a weapon when you didn’t have the artifact yet.

Yeah, they should just have the artifact weapons scale like an heirloom. It could go up to ilvl 70 by level 50.

The relics really don’t add anything at this point.

Actually they do.

A brand new level 45 artifact is at ilvl 50. Put 3 ilvl 50 relics in it and it’s ilvl 70. Keep farming until you get 3 ilvl 60 relics and you’ll have an ilvl 80 weapon. That’s something worth working for.

they definitely were. People ARE logging in to their level 105 characters, squished to 42, with an ilvl20 “legendary” equipped. I imagine they didn’t want level 10 characters running around with ilvl 40+ weapon, likely because of dungeon scaling letting them DELETE THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE.

Legion legendaries are now ilvl 59.

Legion Artifacts get their item level from Relics you obtain getting content. On my alts, the Artifacts with their relics are ilevel 70+. Their BFA weapons are ilevel 60.

i have a doomhammer in my shaman’s inventory. it is item level 20. He was level 100 before the squish(40 now), logging in with an ilvl20 weapon.

The artifact and legendaries are two different things.

Oh yes, my ilvl 76 artifact competes so well against my ilvl 130 weapon on my main.

It is truly “best”.

Because it has no relics in it.
