Depends on the legendary. Legion legendaries weren’t too bad other than acquisition of the specific one you wanted being rough. Thunderfury was okay too but that’s mostly because we were already doing the content needed for the drops as opposed to something like the world events which was incredibly monotonous for the axe. We’ve had them where they’re just standard drops too like the warglaives. Sulfuras was similar to Thunderfury in that the drops came out of content we were already doing, and again not some world quest/world event grind. Atiesh was again similar but next to nobody got that one because of the boss kills involved.
There’s some others that I hesitate to call Legendaries, but they really were like the hunter bow in classic that were a bit more grindy, but even that I found better than more recent ones. We’ve had some items drop that were legendaries in all but name and their power levels reflected it.
Last one I cna think of is Shadowmourne, and it was somewhat grindy with the kill 1000 step. Rest of it was better.

I’m still holding out hope for Atiesh. I wanna do a legendary quest line while it’s still end game content.

HUH…
honestly not a bad suggestion. Like make them super glowy with sick effects and just be a cosmetic. Otherwise you have balance hell to deal with and everyone complains unendingly. Actually dig this suggestion.
But people want power and want to complain about getting it lmaoWoWsup

Hopefully none.
I’m kinda over the whole “SUPER POWERFUL ARTIFACT” for an expansion, sometimes purely just for a patch, before discarding it like garbage for greens or having the foresight to keep it in the bank forever just to make a less-than-humble brag in Trade.
It’s kinda odd having characters equip weapons like the Ashbringer, which is one of the most powerful weapons ever created and has a ton of backstory, only then to simply throw it away for some generic long sword that you picked up from a boar’s carcass.

I can understand what you are saying actually.
I mean, it worked just fine for MMOs like GW2, right?
That entire game is really just chasing over cosmetics, xmog, skins and whatnot; Blizzard doesn’t have to go to extreme horizontal progression for every content but only lean into it for legendaries.
I like the cosmetic idea. There’s also things you could do with it like QoL stuff – ports, maybe makes your flask/food last longer, or resses your raid after it dies at the boss. Maybe it does something like the warforged nightmare (was the nightmarish hitching post sorry that turned everyon’es mount into the warforged nightmare) where you drop a totem and that makes everyone run 10x faster out of combat in raid.

I’m not saying it will, or even should, happen; but what about a legendary enchantment?
Just trying to think of something new…
What if you got an item that would imbue a certain extra element to your weapon based on your class and spec, turning that weapon into a legendary? People could choose which weapon to use it on, or if it is in your inventory it just happens automagically?

Or grant alternative spell effects and animations(and hopefully make them epic).
So many things that Blizzard could do to make legendary quest lines exclusive, meaningful without it being a balance nightmare for the season.

Bro legendary hearthstone effects, lets go
A triumphant roar echoes from the Council of Dornagal as _________, the ________ is formed.
As an aside, the glyph system was so great and they just stopped that a while ago? Legendary glyph animations would be sick. Like was said earlier. Every class would get one from a mythic kill or something.
Cyrces Circlet is about as close as youre gonna get
Yeah, true I am just a sucker for a cool weapon.
