Legal name change + address wonkiness

Okay, so… Getting ahead before I forget. I have a legal name change application in process for my first name only. (Should process in 6 months, but I’m forgetful.) My country, Canada, doesn’t issue court orders but name change certificates (and doesn’t return old docs). My question is: if my name change is approved, can I just change my first name on my account settings? Or should I submit a ticket with the document + my old ID before I turn the latter in for updates so it doesn’t get confused for a stolen or shared account?

Also: is it okay to leave my bank address as primary address and my ID address as the secondary address on the account? I have one address on my bank account and payment method, and another as my address on my ID. The latter is my actual address after a move, but payment processors hate it so my university gave me a different address to use for my bank account and phone bill. Is it okay to just have the actual address as a secondary address, or should I delete my payment method and swap around the primary and secondary addresses and re add it? Before I moved my bank and ID were the same address as the old one had no issues in payment processors, hence how bank address ended up in my primary address.

Thank you for the insight.

Yes! Unless they have changed it recently, the first name can easily be changed on your account settings. If you check, it should let you do it now even if you wanted to. Changing last name is what takes legal documents.

As for payment processing, I honestly don’t know. Anyone can pay for any account so the card does not need to match the exact address on the account - but it does need to be in the same country and currency. The more things match, the better.

I would not touch billing unless there are issues as long as the info is accurate.

Thank you! In my case both addresses on the BNet account are accurate (in as much that I use them in real life), but the address on my bank account and phone bill are different than the one on my ID. Was wondering if the address on the ID needed to be primary, or it was enough to have both addresses on the BNet. (I’d have to delete my card and re add if the ID address needs to be primary, because I can’t seem to edit which address on the account the card is mapped to.)
