Legacy mining/smelting (maybe others) profession is GONE!

I have for years on my alts for instance made legacy mounts and items, continue to keep crafting ore/ items to smelt and create Pandoria, Legion and other mounts. I went on several of my alts who have up to Legion + Mining/Engineering to smelt some Ghost Iron - plus…95% of all that I have trained in the past is GONE!

I disabled all my addons… still the same. This ruins much of the game in my opinion. Gutting the legacy professions and content gets worse and worse.

Will this be fixed or are you just deleting What players PAID FOR in previous expansion. I can’t find any information on this, it wasn’t in any PATCHES that I read.

I hope this isn’t blizz’s intention!? Really frustrated and ANGRY.

Well, firstly, you should do an UI reset. Just turning off add-ons isn’t the same thing as any files they’ve touch will still be affected by them.

Have you used the new filtering option in the new profession interface? There is a button to choose which expansion to display, caught me off guard at first as well. Professions are filtered by expansion now.

For anyone stumbling on this thread. Make sure the filter is set to the expansion you want to smelt ore from. I’ve been googling for half an hour before i found out it only shows outland ores, if you have that expansion selected.

If you’ve tried the UI reset to no avail, then you’ll want to put in a bug report on this. Having seen absolutely nothing about Blizz intending to “gut” old professions, I’m quite positive this is a display error (as opposed to you actually losing professions or techniques or recipes from within individual professions.)

But, stranger things have happened!

The UI reset is quick, easy, and completely reversible should it not have any effect. Simply rename the “.old” folders back to the correct names.

And then, yes, a Bug Report so the folks who look at these errors can proceed with a fix.

We’re sorry to ask you to follow regular troubleshooting procedures. I am not sure what else you might have been looking for. No one who posts on these forums can go to a terminal at Blizz HQ, open up the file for professions, fix whatever on some line of code, and make the problem go away.

I wish they could, but sadly, they cannot. We all have to follow the procedure for getting bugs fixed. That always starts with a proper UI reset, and if that doesn’t work, a bug report.

Good luck on this.

Nope. That was just a suggestion of one possibility, and my humble opinion. We had offered sound advice which you gave the dismissive, “same old, same old. thanks.”

So I kinda responded in the same manner.

Nope, we are players just like yourself offering the best advice for the situation. Display errors are something we have seen literally hundreds of times here. And this sounds very much like a display error, which is why we recommended a UI reset. The number-one go-to for UI display issues.

It may be the “same old, same old,” but it is indeed step one, and it’s something you’ll need to try. Any support response from an SFA here, or from a GM via a ticket, will recommend the exact same.

I’d also note that (with all due respect and not in any way challenging your expertise in regards to WoW or professions in general) when googling “missing smelting DF” or “smelting removed in Dragonflight” I see that quite a few folks think things are missing, when they are simply located in different places now.

If that’s not the case, just disregard that last paragraph there.

I have been playing since 2005, have mining on three characters. The “expertise” was given to you as we can. Please keep in mind this is a peer to peer forum with some help from Support Forum Agents. We are not GMs. There are no GMs here.

If you refuse a full UI reset— which actually is quick and easy and fully reversible— then you will have to file a bug report.

As I have not experienced your issue, I cannot give any more suggestions than what’s already been given.

Your addon settings are in your main account Saved Variables. You can save your entire WTF and Interface folders to your desktop. You lose nothing.

Incidentally, I checked my miner/blacksmith. When I switch the filter to Classic, I see all the classic smelting recipes. Outland shows Outland, Northrend shows Northrend, and so on. I don’t appear to be missing anything relative to mining.

“Hello, IT, have you tried turning it off and back on again?”

No one’s going to be able to help unless the basic troubleshooting is done, sad to say.

I just checked my most recent level 70 miner, found the smelting skills, including ghost iron intact. In the mining menu.

Darn, it was unplugged…

So admittedly I missed a whole lot of whatever took place, especially since you tried to backtrack and deleted most of your comments here. Let’s tuck any attitude away and see if this can’t be figured out while acting like a proper adult, hm?

I’m going to for the moment, ignore all that has taken place in this thread so far. Please just say that yes, you did this or no, you didn’t. It’s early, I’m still waking up here.

You checked your filters. Make sure that you don’t have the “have mats” or “has skill up” checked and all of that?

If that is all on the up and up, we go to the next step. Resetting your UI is not just disabling your add-ons. So I’m asking you flat out, did you try and properly reset your UI? Or do you have no intention of trying to see if that will fix your issue? If you’re not, just say so. I can’t tell if you actually did this step because again, all of your replies are deleted and what is quoted from other folks does not tell me this.

And just to touch on, you’re the only person I’ve seen come here with this. So it’s not really something per se that Blizzard themselves can fix as it’s likely something borked in the code or whatnot on your end. THAT IS NOT PLACING BLAME ON YOU. It’s just that something isn’t working as intended, and we’re here to try and figure out what’s broken where.

I checked several of your alts, and found the many of the smelting recipes there, including the Ghost Iron.

Since you deleted several of your posts I’m hoping you figured out the issue. If not, may be a picture of what you are seeing would help, similar to what Leilleath posted.

Prior reply edited: TY for checking my alts, I have been spending a quite a bit of time trying to figure out what specifically seems glitched.
Thank you for looking at this. I did not realize the issue until I was trying to craft some old stuff. THANK YOU.

UPDATE EDIT: After reviewing my main and alts professions. Details below.
Several of my alts gathering (Herbalism and Mining) professions are missing especially my main… some are not.

Cynurunyte (main has leveled 100% Alchemy/Herbalism every expansion):
Herbal training missing: SL, WOD, Pandaria, Cataclysm, Northrend, Outland, Classic

Heidinyte:
Herbal training missing: SL, WOD (began toon in Legion)

Haggerden: (I dropped his BS/Mining and picked it back up, really thought I retrained in mining … but I went back the last few days to relearn Pandaria mining.
Missing mining on WOD (not even showing as an option in filter list) , MOP.

Ravenyte:
Mining missing SL, WOD

Palinyte:
Mining missing WOD

What could be the issue with the gathering profession and interesting in Herbalism in SL is missing on several alts? All addons turned off, reloaded UI… and the issues above have not been restored.

It is a huge deal to reset my whole UI on every alt. I have done that in the past and it not fix the issues, then left with hours of manual adjustments. So I am very resistant to this option.

I would never have found this issue if I hadn’t wanted to make some past expanse items to sell on the Auction House. I would appreciate other ideas for why this is happening. Maybe it is happening more, just people have not realized it.

In advance thank you for you assistance or ideas.
