Leeway bugs isolated on beta with tests

What is leeway?
Leeway is a bonus applied to the range of melee attacks and spells when both targets are moving to account for lag/ping etc. (This is a Vanilla feature). Recent videos from the beta have shown how this works. I’m not here to debate this as blizzard has stated this is working as intended.

However there was a wrinkle to leeway that is not working as intended…
Leeway bonus is removed for your target when their movement speed is reduced by 30% or more.

This currently is working as intended for ranged spells in the beta
To create this test the hunter stands at 21 yards (shock is 20 yards) and when we are stationary I cannot shock. Once we both move I can shock (leeway bonus). We redo the test with myself snared and I cannot shock (I have lost my leeway bonus as intended).

This is not working as intended for melee in the beta:
While both of us are moving to show max melee range I have the hunter wing clip me (reducing movement by 55%) and yet I can still melee my target. This is the bug. My range should be reduced because I’m snared.

TLDR: Leeway bonus is removed for ranged spells when you are snared and moving (CORRECT). Leeway bonus is not removed in melee when you are snared and moving. (INCORRECT)

Bump for this.

This is by far the most game impacting bug in relation to how seemingly simple the fix is…

This will heavily affect all classes but especially rogues, warriors, mages who rely on kiting a slowed player OR npc (leeway works on both) just out of range.

A mage for example cannot even use arcane explosion on a slowed (frost/ice armor) NPC without getting repeatedly hit with the incorrect leeway that is present as of now. Slowed mobs will still you even at maximum arcane explosion range.

I don’t have beta access so I can’t test but AOE leeway is supposed to exist too and from what I last read it doesn’t.

Either no leeway or correctly functioning leeway is needed.

It’s not working as intended as it never worked in Vanilla, to begin with.

Outside of videos showing it wasn’t in Vanilla - we know that Leeway was a mechanic that didn’t start until after deadzone was removed - which first removal happened in 2.3 starting with Hunters.

It doesn’t belong. Period.

leeway is NOT a vanilla mechanic.

Leeway only exists because they created artificial “lag” to create spell batching. It’s not a Vanilla mechanic, and any proof of it was client-side.

It seems the AOE leeway has been fixed, so hopefully this will be fixed soon too. Seems promising.

If they don’t fix this :
Just get an addon to display the range between you and your target and you’ll be able as melee to easy kill hunters by landing range hits in his deadzone…

This type of addon is not possible.

There’s addons that can display ranges in increments based on your abilities, not perfect but sometimes helpful for kiting, as it shows what range bracket you are in without having to say look at your bar and see what abilities are going red all the time.

Why ? I think i have seen addon using range multiple time…

Anyway if nothing is done about see, melee will get a huge boost versus range. And tauren may become more viable in PvP than Orc with a larger range due to the hitbox

People are calculating range using the 3d distance formula & the lua function UnitPosition. UnitPosition can only be used on party/raid members. Because of this, you cannot use UnitPosition to get the coordinates of an enemy entity to calculate accurate range.

OMG…does that mean my rogue will live more then die cause I’m horrible at melee

Perplexity demonstrates leeway

It’s like if you have to consider about playing Tauren in PvP as melee because is give a range advantage…
Like a hidden racial

Wouldn’t that put you at a lot of risk? One wing clip and you are back i to range attacks, quick.

Keeping close would be the preferred method when dealing with a hunter, don’t ya think?

What he doesn’t demonstrate is another player attacking a Tauren running away should work the same. The non-Tauren should be able to hit the Tauren from about ~10-12 yards away based on this result.

This is exactly why the Tauren hitbox was reduced to be normal size at the end of BC, because Tauren Druids in caster form could be hit through pillars and objects in Arena.

Personally I love the large hitbox/melee range on Tauren and it always felt clunky to play a Tauren Warrior with it reduced. However, they need to get a handle on this for sure. I’m fine with it being reliably 7-8 yards both ways, not 10-12.

Im not really sure if anyone here renember.
In vanilla there was a bug that lasted very short befor being fixed it was like leeway.
This bug was not on tauren but on troll race.
The range was longer also
