Some groups will stack mages and locks and aoe everything down while keeping them slowed and its pretty much impossible for a non-pally to hold AOE aggro at that point. In those comps its not really the tanks job to do much lol.
Not sure if thats what happened here but if they are AOE zerging without slows or just flat out not a comp to handle those kinds of dungeons they are just being dumb. Most of the time caster cleave AOE runs will advertise as so.
On a side note… people really have issues with anything thats not a pally tank these days. The meta culture makes people watch streams and see a pally tank and assume all other tanks are useless because they can’t hold 10 mobs at a time. Back then you actually had more warrior tanks and people used CC/slows instead of pulling 1 or 2 mobs at a time. now we just zerg everything because a youtube video told us to.
I don’t see where opening poster stated what instance this was, but If he was 66 then he was likely tanking OHB normal or lower - meaning the 70’s were joining a group that they were clearly overleveled & overgeared for. That makes them the griefers if they weren’t adjusting their play-style accordingly & going out of their way to cause drama & chaos during the group pulls for the sake of giggles & dps epeen wagging, while at the same time deriding the tank for not being able to keep up with them in a dungeon they have long since outgrown. I do find it interesting though that you believe people who react to being deliberatly griefed, are somehow the bad guy in the story. Sort of like blaming victims of crime or natural disasters for what happens to them. After all, bad things don’t happen to people unless they clearly deserve it. That is how a lot of people think, strangely enough.
If I pull a mob / mobs from the tank as DPS, it’s my own fault if I taste the dirt of the dungeon floor. That is what ThreatMeter addons are for!
Not saying there aren’t any bad tanks, but no one can expect a 66 to hold aggro for a 70 DPS going full blast.
Exactly what I am agreeing with. I can’t tell if you agree with me or are trying to state a point. I was just stating a point and really even if the mages/locks in my posted scenario were not lvl 70 and overgeared, in groups like AOE rep farming groups, the tank is really just there for an oh crap taunt moment. Its really up to the mages to control the packs in that type of group.
Regardless of your threat meter in a group designed to AOE blast everything you as a lock even with the threat meter are pulling aggro as that is what those groups are meant to do.
If it wasn’t that kind of comp and the lock is seeding everything yes he/she/they/you do deserve to taste the dirt on the dungeon floor.
It would be nice if there were no damage meters, no online log parse thingies, etc. That way, people wouldn’t care to go ham. I mean, it’s a … dungeon.
no one parses dungeons. People go fast in dungeons because people like being productive even in a game. People like to feel what their doing is worth something. Even in a game I know silly but its true.
You cant blame parses for spamin dps in a dungeon. Sorry tough luck.
from what i can gather they have had some past bad experiences or maybe they hadnt attacked the skull in the past and have been ditched or maybe even had a bad tank and its jaded them a bit .
Its ok , i just hope they have fun playing and arent angry all the time .
I guess i cant imagine why wiping over and over and wasting time and ultimately looking for another tank, because as a dps, you refuse to throttle, is considered more productive then just finishing the run with a potentially sub par tank.
In a normal dungeon with a dps doing 1600 dps like the OP described, there is zero point in throttling. Everything is going to die so fast that it won’t matter.
This is the a-typical tank post on the forums by yet another tank seeking affirmation and attaboys for putting those despicable dps players in their place.
I think the reason why a lot of posts are from tanks and healers around here is because its the only roles that require you to care about other people and watch the overall happenings of the dungeon .
There has been maybe one dungeon today in the grind where there group was a dream , no one standing in crap , people actually attacked the marked mobs , people didnt pull a pack because they didnt know where they are standing or even trying to pull mobs for the tank causing extra issues and wipes .
Shambouki thinks that all dps are sunshine and rainbows when the reality is you can warn someone 50 times not to do something as simple as pulling more packs when its not needed ( causing wipes ) and they still do it over and over .
Why ? because theyre the king and the decide what the group can handle ( and most times its not a great outcome )
There is a reason there is a tank shortage its not because it isnt fun its because it requires a lot more then watching numbers and pushing buttons on a marked mob especially as a warrior handling large packs .
I have a macro on my tank to kill skull, don’t attack till they get to me. If you can’t follow this I am happy to leave for another tank who is more accommodating of their style
I give them one warning and then I am out.
I also don’t offer to tank until I see them lookin for a tank for at least 5 minutes. When they have to wait I find them much more polite. If I actually needed something I would just start a group myself so no skin off my back.
I would let not care if DPS going to town when it was mages and locks. I would taunt when could, Charge root runners and bash when its up… OR and even come out of form to warstomp the group of them Since I would have aggro on nothing as lock pulled 2k dps. Crao died fast we lived (lock and aoe warrirs sometimes died) didnt care. Im there for bosses it seemed like most the times, untill i got fat gear levels
