the core audience are the people that are already paying for their products, the people that are likely be interested in going to BlizzCon, their target audience also includes people that they are trying to get more sales from and bring into their core audience. if you disenfranchise an established core audience, in worst case scenario you end up like budlight.
kpop doesn’t have a well established tie to blizzcon, making this quite risky,
yes, products like Overwatch, the game they’ve chosen to devote about half of their convention hall to, and twice as much floorspace as the entire Warcraft franchise. I’m glad we’re all on the same page that these are the people they cater the music towards.
Oh, I see what’s going on here. Well, you have fun with that.
I don’t know who this band is, but I never went to the concerts before, either. Imho they should have always had Ren faire styled acts, but I’m biased.
Except WoW is not its only audience and like it or not this band is bringing alot of eyeballs to Overwatch, a game that is likely as profitable(maybe even more so) then WoW.
Riot released a K-POP inspired line of skins for a few of their champions. Along with the skins they released a song and a music video. The music video has over 570,000,000 views on Youtube and over 300,000,000 plays on Spotify.
That was just one song. They went on to release more songs, and they’re all quite good. However, they used professional artists for all of their songs, including some big names in Kpop.
Blizzard is looking at this going “hmm… they made a boat load of money, and we like money”. Overwatch was/is very popular in Korea. So they just collaborated with an established Kpop band.
I don’t know this band, but they have quite a following on spotify, like 9,000,000+ monthly listeners. Also since blizzard just gets with an established band, they don’t need to do what Riot did and create one from the ground up.
I hope they collaborate further with more bands for more skins in the future.
They’ve had Kpop performances at Blizzcon and it does match the overwatch vibe.
I’m a bit confused because like I don’t necessarily think WoW’s audience fits a group like Le Sserafim being the center but their music is cute and fun so like w/e. I’ll watch it.
Activision/Blizzard and now Microsoft are high profile corporations. Big time corporations are always trying to be hip and “with it”. Having grandpa music at their big events doesn’t fit well in corporate culture.
