Laziest major new race in the history of the game

My guess would be scaly kul’tiran.

If it makes you feel better, Draenei and Blood Elves shared faces until the WoD update.

It’s cutting shapes.

Want the perfect reponse to your post, everything you saw in the reveal video all were pre-alpha stuff, the game was still being built, they couldnt even show us live talent trees just a mock up image, why? because it is not finished

most likely the game wont be released untill middle to late next year

I’ve been saying for a while now that Blizzard is trying to get people to lower their expectations and condition themselves to accept lazier rehashes of old content. Allied Races existed to “give you more races, faster” but they could have been included baseline as customization options with a flag for voice lines for 90% of the races released. Dracthyr are their attempt to get away with even more of it, a single bodytype to choose from, a single class to play, and all there is attached is some open-ended “Oh we ‘promise’ to give it more classes later :)” and we see how well Blizz keeps its promises.

Dracthyr are probably the race I’ve been the most disappointed in since, well, Kul’tirans. They’re dropping the ball, lazily reskinning for a mainstay box race, and are trying to grift off the now practically non-existent good will of the playerbase. GD will eat up a lot of Blizz’s garbage, but they’re going to have more than 50% of the playerbase quitting after the first month when all this “return to form”, “we’re listening!”, “look it’s what you wanted! monkey’s paw” falls through again.

Their beard options in FF14 are sorely lacking.

To the OP, agreed. If dracthyr are going to be a selling point for the new expansion then EVERYTHING about them has to be new, no exceptions.

I mean look at the Character Customization Options more in FF14 than WoW. Sad isn’t it.

This should just be 100% optional either way. Personally, I really like the fantasy of being a dragon who just woke up after a 10,000 year nap and has to gradually re-learn how to fly.

I think they mainly just don’t want Dracthyr players to feel like they’re missing out on having their own customizable dragon mounts like everyone else. So again, give them the dragons just like other players, but give them full choice over if/how they ride them rather than making it mandatory.

Another option I think would be cool is letting Dragonriding upgrades apply directly to Dracthyr dragon forms, and ALSO having some new customizations for the dragon form that can be unlocked through the system the way the customizable dragon mount upgrades are unlocked for non-Dracthyr. On an account-wide and non-mutually-exclusive basis, of course

Yeah love how the class issue was left off the lazyness. Like how much worse could you make the race other than one class that can’t even cover the whole Triad. With vague statements about other classes and/or specs down the line

The only way to truly define lazy in this case is to know how many hours ( and other metrics ) was put into each of the major expansion races and or classes. To simply look at it without knowing how it was accomplished and point the finger and say lazy just shows a lack of any logical thinking.

It also shows a serious lack of understanding when people pull the copy and paste card in video games. We can’t even make everything original in real life as it would just take forever to get anything done. Just imagine the city wants to tear out the road in front of your residence and make something totally original. 600mil budget and a 20 year plan. Have fun walking a ways to your car for the next 20 years while the value of the properties drops like a rock. That money also takes away from other things like education, etc. etc.

Same goes in a video game. Please drop the sad click bait titles with zero substance in the OP.

Blood elves were just reskinned night elves and people were thoroughly unimpressed

This is a dramatic post

Oh crap! I left out the whole 'they can only be one class, and that class only has two specs, part in the original post. Ah well.

You will be hard pressed to find one that is lazier than the Void Elves… I mean they basically ripped off the BEs, recolored their skin and came up with a couple of different hairstyles. Oh well lets not forget their starter zone. I mean that whole couple of floating islands with 2 or 3 huts, that most have taken a ton of time to create. And their lore and back story is so involved that they didn’t even show up in the expansion that launched them.

Nothing personal to the VEs out there. I think you are a cool idea that Blizzard just ignored and didn’t explore enough, which his probably the biggest complaint about you.

Right but that’s for Allied Races, which while lazy, at least weren’t pretending to be anything more than some weird way of implementing subraces instead of just slapping in more customization options. They were a way to get existing skeletons onto the other side, in some cases, while others were once again using the Monkey’s Paw (Velves) to… Idk, purposely upset the players who wanted high elves I guess?

Which is silly, I’ve never heard of a druid not collecting mounts just because travel form is objectively superior lol

Really dig your armor unlock concept, IF they are dead set on no mogs for dragon form. It would at least make it feel like a far lesser issue for the duration of this expansion.

I mean, I suppose. But still really got to go by the finished product in the end. If one group puts in the same effort and energy to make a toolshed as another group puts in to build a house something’s real wrong with the toolshed group. I mean, I guess it could be a real fancy toolshed with turned columns and hand carved moldings but it’s still a toolshed.

Basically, if they put in the same effort to make drakthyr as they put in to make any of the past box feature races and they wind up with something that’s mostly reskins, fewer body types, and no access to mogging, I dunno, maybe not technically lazy, but still really bad.

Time does not = effort, nor does it excuse a garbage finished product. If all they can put out is some half-assed incubus reskin with wings and ugly, overdesigned, human/belf reskins then maybe they should have invested the time elsewhere instead.

Eh. Worgen Human Forms are just… humans. At least with the Dracthyr they bothered to put in some effort to differentiate them.

Not completely, but then again, look at the Mechagnomes. Restricted Transmog Options aren’t new.

They could open it up, maybe allow bracers as well, and perhaps boots (anklets in this case), but… why would you have a dragon that you just bury and hide in armor? The dragon part is the entire point.

Then again, perhaps it’s all just an excuse to continue dumping on Mail as the Milhouse of armor types…

Dragons don’t generally have gender dimorphism. If these did, all you could hear would be, “DRAGONS ARE REPTILES!!! WHY DO THEY HAVE BOOBS!!! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE–!!!” shrieked from would-be herpetologists.

Then again, Dragonkin do have significant gender dimorphism, and these would be closer to those than actual full-blooded dragons. Either way, it does feel like trying to make excuses for shoddy, lazy design. Speaking of which…

This… yeah. Just yeah.

Recycling on this scale (no pun intended) for this significant of an expansion feature is just lazy. New races should get a complete package when it comes to the work and development that goes into them. Not just textures, but skeletons, animations - the works.

Now, I’m still very much looking forward to them. This is a concept which could scare be more aligned with my personal tastes.

That said, some of the criticisms leveled at them do make sense. This isn’t some fly-by-night Allied race, and they’re only making the one. There’s not a Horde race and an Alliance race - just one race split between them both. Any cut corner is going to be that much more glaring.

Still, we aren’t even to Alpha yet - plenty of time for things to shape up where it falls short.

Everyone is so cynical and impossible to please nowadays.
