It’s funny that blizz really didn’t test layers before release. Like you said players very quickly found a way to abuse it, blizzard just decided to release it without giving it a proper testing. I guess such is the way of gaming now a days. Release unfinished products and fix it later
Well aren’t servers 5x larger than the vanilla ones? Blizz said that classic servers at medium hold more players than vanilla did at full. Meaning without layering- you’re playing a game that has spawn rates meant for 1/5th the playerbase.
You aren’t getting the vanilla experience without layering either, as spawns haven’t been adjusted to compensate for having such a massive capacity- but nobody seems to talk about that.
Have you completely missed how easy the system is to exploit? Layering is an absolutely disaster and just as Ion said and the entire classic dev team said, its antithetical to classic. It is going to go away weather you like it or not. Personally, it cant come soon enough. All of these people asking for modern QOL might just simply want to look in the mirror and think about if this is the right game for them.
Adjusting spawn rates would be even worse. Walking into a cave is already a death sentence in this game.
But you’re right, and it’s the one thing that anti-layering crowd just refuses to look at. The game was just never designed for this many people, but spreading servers thin is going to lead to dead servers.
Sharding works. I think we need to just drop the egos and put it in the game.
People brought it up when layering was announced before beta! It was obvious if no restrictions were in place it would be abused!
Video games have been around for almost 50 years now! If there’s even a slight chance a mechanic can be exploited for gain, players will exploit it.
Hell not long ago a guy’s world record runs were taken off the books because it was proven there wqs no way he could have made the times he did. These were atari 2600 games and his records stood for over 20 years!
Players will exploit. This is no secret. Hell even blizz’s golden streamers were saying it on their videos!
Everyone besides blizz knew this would be exploited.
Now that leaves us with 2 possible conclusions. Either blizz is incompetent or they allowed it to happen…
Yea that’s a grey area for sure. I can understand old tech but it’s a system they’ve been using in retail for the most part with phasing. So it’s kind of funny they didn’t anticipate this happening when it’s something that caused issues in the past. My theory, and it’s purely a theory, is blizz isn’t incompetent as much as they knew it was an issue but decided to turn a blind eye to it until it became an issue because they were already onto working on development for another aspect of classic coming up. Potentially being phase 2 and beyond, it wouldn’t surprise me if there are another round of large exploits easily found with phase 2 being implemented and in phase 3 and so on.
But that is totally a theory yet one I wouldn’t put past them given the repetitive track record they’ve had.

As for the complaint that its making things worse… I’m sure the richest people on your server will agree, because that’s basically all it was good for was swapping layers to get more rich thorium, devilsaurs and black lotus

But what you say , about not questing quests that have too many players doing it proves my point. It’s entertainment “Blizzard entertainment.” I should be able to do any quest at any time I want. Not being able to play a part of the game is selling a inferior entertainment product, in a age of a myraid of entertainment options.

So, at worst, you’re seeing double the people. If double the people are ruining it for you, well, time to reconsider if Classic is the game for you.
But I was playing classic and layering was in classic. Also some servers of classic, still have layering. From the start of classic wasn’t genuine, so Im judging classic based the version I was playing when it came out.
it was stated from the start that it wasn’t going to stay around, it was one of the most anti vanilla things they could have implemented, good radiance it is going away its a sad day that some servers still have it, they need to remove it faster, it should have never been a thing in the first place…take your troll post and go back to bfa.

I honestly can’t wait for layers to be removed. It’d be nice once that happens to have a working World Defense channel again like back in the day.

I’ll never understand why people play an mmo and don’t want to socialize or group with players. That’s the point of an MMORPG. If you want to solo your way through a game, play BfA.
