This ain’t it chief
Interesting . To me you sound like you’ve experienced “pvp happening on a pvp server” Some would say, that you should chase the layer switching player into the other layer and find him. Afterall “pvp problems have pvp solutions” As a person who enjoys good pvp, just deciding to play it separate from pve, that’s the first thing that came into my mind…
Except the game wasn’t designed around having 10x the player count in the world. I played on two of the most populated US servers in vanilla, from day one, and they paled in comparison to how bad it was/is in classic on servers like Stalagg.
Most people? Really? or a very vocal few?
This has been the mantra from many and the way Blizz saw it… you have 50k people all in 1 to 3 starting zones no one can get anything done… its the same but a little spread out now…
STV you have 10 to 20 people standing around trying to steal the 10 mobs for zanzil elixir quest in each layer on my realm at all times… had to get up at 2 am to complete the quest and there was still 3 people there trying to out do each other.
The pick axe pick up quest in the troll/orc area had a line of people for the first 2 weeks in each layer… as did the named scorpion quest… imagine instead of a 30 min wait time for these quest… no layers and a 4 hour wait?
Come on man…
Acting like it isn’t a thing is funny.
It is implied here. But you may just mean layering, so if you meant that I apologize for the misunderstanding.
Say what? Good riddance. Not soon enough for as bad as it was abused.
I’m actually considering transferring to a non layered realm.
So sick of seeing “inv for layer change”. “No. I won’t enable you to abuse mechanics”.
Layering improved nothing, and was exploited countless times creating a degenerate gameplay experience.
Layering has absolutely not improved the quality of the game. If you want a world with no competition for resources there are versions of the game available for that. Layering has caused a ton more issues and solved barely any. This entire post is hilariously misguided
You have options.
1.Wait.
2.Come back later.
3.Grind mobs.
4.Skip it altogether. There are not any low level quest that is a “must do” to advance. Especially in the starter area? Come on man!
Actually… I had one even better option… as everyone did… Blizz saw this was going to be a problem and put in layers!

Layering improved the quality of the game
Wrong.
Layering needs to be brought back pronto.
Wrong.
The quality of the game is suffering.
Wrong.
And people simply won’t play as much.
Wrong.
smolderweb is down to a single layer now
Server seems pretty crowded as a result

Yea. We’re well past that. We’re moving forward and layering is being removed. Now everyone who was against layering gets no layering. If some servers have queues again. So be it.
Yea the damge is done (with no real damage control to remove the gold and items from the abuse) but again moving forward.
Like I said good riddance to layering. Even if it is after it’s been abused to hell and back.
No it also means people are spread out across the world instead of all being in the starter zones then all in the next set of zones etc
Just remember kids. Abuse early. Abuse often. The more who do, the less likely blizz is to do anything about it because it would impact their profits.
Layering
That word is a trigger word on these forums. Some folks probably can’t even cope with seeing a layer cake at the store now days.
When you want to quest, it’s kind of nice to actually find the mobs you are looking
I agree and I think most others do as well.
The quality of the game is suffering.
I actually agree, I also think layering was causing its own issues due to exploits. Removing layering removed some problems and has hopefully only temporarily caused some others. With layers gone, it will be interesting to see what high level zones look like once the bulk of levelers hit 57+.
The quality of the game is suffering. And people simply won’t play as much.
That happens unfortunately. I have a number of friends who are rerolling on different servers to try and find one that works best for them. I tend to quest for a few hours before work, run a dungeon or two and/or knock out elite quests during prime hours.
Contested resources are a thing. Some people have stated that spawn camping being needed for every gnoll paw, troll tusk, or kill X quest is the way it is supposed to be. My vanilla experience was not like that. I had to spawn camp only maybe 10-15 quests while leveling. At 60 was where the real contesting happened. I was on a PvP server and I saw guilds go to war over a thorium node.
Good Luck!
P.S. I <3 layer cakes

Oh man. Now this right here hits the Nostagia feels. When your sword was sworn to your guild and it really meant something! This is what I really miss.

see what I did there?
So on Azuresong at least, my “main” PVE server there is evidence that layering has been removed entirely. Let’s be honest for 5 seconds. Layering improved the quality of the game. When you want to quest, it’s kind of nice to actually find the mobs you are looking for to collect what they drop for a quest for example. Layering needs to be brought back pronto. The quality of the game is suffering. And people simply won’t play as much.
Don’t think you understand the purpose of layering. Layering was added to mitigate population loss.
On most realm, that loss has been enough to remove layering.
Layering was never intended to control populations for zones. If it did it was a side affect.
What we are seeing now is the intended population. That’s not a diminish in quality.
Like I said good riddance to layering. Even if it is after it’s been abused to hell and back.
LOL… ya, the only problem is Blizz has already said there were only a few servers that had 3 layers over the month of September and most had only 2 or 1… below is a quote directly in response to the blue post about this complete lie you anti layering people have been spreading…
"This is so fantastic to have confirmed. The narrative from some people on the forum had them labeling ‘layer abuse’ as if it was involving some 50+ layers and just massive abuse on untold levels of hopping around like a rabbit vacuuming up massive riches.
To confirm that even one of the most notorious servers has only had 2 layers for nearly a MONTH and many others haven’t even had a second layer active for about as long is so glorious to read.
I wonder how the anti-layering crowd is going to move the goal post next?"
