It’s not misleading at all, Are you going to pay $60 for the OG Half-life today? Prices of games depreciate over time. We are paying todays price of a premium service for a game made 15 years ago. Which the load on todays servers of a game made 15 years ago is far less than the load of a game made today on a server.
well we are getting the game for free, our sub now gives us access to more than it did 15 years ago.
Interesting fact too, the 6 month sub at one time was 83$ now its 77, saw that in my sub history.
Well I’m assuming being in a guild has little to do with anything. Most people end up in a guild. You’ll just hop over to whatever layer the group leader is in regardless. I’d imagine the only caveat is you’ll likely log into your guild home “layer.” Which is going to get messy real quickly if that’s based on the layer you make the guild in.
Also I don’t just like wPvP man. I level, level alts, do dungeons, craft, raid, BGs, ect.
I used to be a rather avid D&D player as well. (Mainly 3.5) So immersion does matter to me. Hell my Skyrim characters generally have backstories, and strict rules I follow to play them.
It’s supposed to be a MMO, not a damn chat lobby where you port around to join groups. That’s why I still play p-servers like P1999 (EQ) and Phoenix (DAoC) and NWN servers like Arelith. I miss that old school vibe.
If Blizzard can’t over something closer to the original than a p-server, I don’t know much what to think about them at this point.
You might be, and if that is the case, I’m not sure why your opinion on the matter would outweigh a person who isn’t sub’d to retail, nor wants to sub to retail. I’m only paying for classic, not retail. I’m going to be paying $15 per account for classic. It seems like your sub is a given while others is questionable.
They are, its just phase one they are not. And during phase one it will progress towards what you desire. Phase one is gonna be like .5% of Classic’s life if not less than that. So to some extent there has to be a reason you care about it being in only phase one.
Frankly I don’t trust Blizzard enough to really believe they’ll ever remove it, and I’d hate to invest time into it if it was going to just linger around like an overly sour fart.
Trust me, I am with you. If they push it into phase 2. I am out permanently. They will lose every bit of trust I am even giving them now. So probably for you, just wait til phase two comes up and see where it goes.
They aren’t building an infrastructure to remove layering if people actually don’t leave, they will remain layered. They are hedging their bets that enough people will leave before phase 2, so your concerns are justified.
They are preparing for an expected scenario. If by chance that scenario does not come, they will have to look for alternatives that are not layering. The servers can handle having a lot of people on it. The only problem is the economic sustainability from person to person.
I fear they are pigeon holing themselves into no alternatives. This will be their “tech” for dealing with over-capacity once it is released.

Whether or not people take advantage of that is up to them.

Oh they’ve got an alternative. It’s delaying phase 2 until the server pops drop to where they want them. So we could end up with layering for 6 or 8 months or more. I’m really concerned classic is going to turn into a real sh*tshow.

Not free dude, I already bought World of Warcraft and still have the disc, that was $60, and now I’m going to be paying $15 a month per account, on top of that, which if I play just for one year will have amounted to $240 for the initial account, and $180 for each other one, seems like a pretty premium price to me. AND definitely, definitely, NOT free.
I could buy 4 premium games just for the price of the initial account and play them as much as i want and as long as I want for no additional cost.
Yet here I am, offering blizzard money for the game I bought all those years ago, paying todays price for their outdated game, only requesting to be able to play it as it was.
From what they’ve(Blizz) has said I don’t believe that to be true. I heard it as regardless if no one leaves by phase 2 layering will still be turned off and we experience queues and/or free transfers to low/new servers.
How would they cram 5k or 6k people into one “layer” if people don’t want to change server, like a streamer cult server? It doesn’t seem likely.
yes free, you are not paying for the new client. The client you bought has been written over and over and still exists today. That said, I understand your math.
The game(Classic) itself is now free, where it used to have a box cost, now you only need to sub, you don’t have to buy it(again).

If you truly intend on playing for a year, get the 6 months sub and save yourself about 30 bucks.
Adding to this: Don’t want to pay for a sub? Go on retail and farm your butt off rather than playing Classic to buy WoW tokens off the AH.

A relevant game doesn’t lower a subscription fee unless it becomes necessary. The playerbase has paid the same throughout it’s life, and there has been no need to lower it. It is a premium service for TWO games, come Aug 27th. So if anything, we’re getting a deal.
Except they have explicitly said that layering WILL BE removed for Phase 2. Whether that means massive congestion, the creation of new servers (Which would be justified at that point), or a different tech(That would get them screamed at more than they already are), layering will not stay. Say it with me, and the quoted devs: Layering will not remain past Phase 2, and it may be gone in a couple weeks.
That’s your choice to support multiple accounts. And you played World of Warcraft during it’s time of release up until the expansions. Classic is a different game based on how Vanilla used to play. And you’re getting this new game based on the older game… for free.
