Heya, out of sheer curiosity, is this character named after the band?
Having the same issue… it’s really bothering me. Hope it gets fixed soon… meanwhile, going to play classic, it doesn’t happen there
I take it maintenance did nothing once again?
Blizzard’s as mindful of this bug as they are mindful about Hong Kong’s plight!
There’s a Blue post on the EU forums about the same bug:
No fix with today’s maintenance. Again. Since the problem didn’t occur before 8.2.5 and since it is related to excessive log writes I wonder if someone left a debug flag turned on for the production compile.
Just chiming in again to keep the thread going and say the issue’s still ongoing.
yep…still happen for me as well…did someone from Blizz monitor this thread or just ignore cos only thousands encountered this issue instead of millions?
I have watched a lot of wow streams since this bug started happening. It is quite common and prevalent in almost all of them. It is in varying degrees however, and most people just ignore it. Not knowing what the excessive writes does to their SSD / HDD.
I refuse to ignore this issue. I refuse to let blizzard sweep this under the rug. I am running out patience and I am truly dumbfounded by this companys lack of haste with dealing with this issue.
I have not demanded time to be replaced, I have not demanded a apology. But this is literally getting ridiculous. Your aging peoples drives blizzard, fast. Why are you not understanding how freaking serious this is? This IS a big deal.
All due respect, remove your heads from your behinds. This is crazy to me.
Still happening guys.
Unfortunately…
Is this seriously not fixed yet?
ive been having this issue since the patch came out and the whole game froze for me while raiding. when i went into the logs to figure out what happened because i knew it wasnt my system, the logs tried to write errors over 500 times in less than a min while raiding and caused a full system freeze. this is a huge problem and am not unable to even do lfr because of it. please fix this bliz i want to play but at this point i cant even do that
I had high hopes that this would be fixed today. Guess I was just high to think that.
Every Tuesday after maintenance all I can think of is that GTA meme “Ah shoot*, here we go again”.
So its not just me. This is a huge bug that needs to be fixed and I believe its more than just the freeze after killing and looting chests, sometimes the client will freeze up, exit and then come back.
My apologies. It was a bit irritating to be dictated to; my verbiage may have been poor. I was offering an idea - that particular setting isn’t computer breaking if you do it alone; worst case is that the PC doesn’t see your sata drive on boot and you go back into bios and undo the setting.
I think it’s fair to say that there’s a LOT of us frustrated and my frustration definitely came out. My family came back to this game after a 5 year break and it’s disappointing to see these issues after all this time.
I placed tickets because even my pet battling is broken - I have two accounts from before and I re-enabled my second account so my 9 year old could experience the game we’re back into. Bliz refused to split my additional account into a second account that didn’t share achieves/pets/mounts/etc. My home has 4 active accounts and I built two new PC’s and updated another to windows 10.
The old PC I used (an i7-920 with PCI-E 2.0) has a radeon hd5770 in it along with a velociraptor hdd. This is the ONLY PC that I was able to completely wipe, reinstall windows 10, and install WOW and get great performance for a 10 year old box - a box that Bliz said wouldn’t even support the game now. I had built it as a hackintosh setup previously and had switched to all Apple products years ago for our other devices. I have an iMac from mid-2011 that is refused by bliz as playable… and I’ve updated memory and swapped it to an SSD … it’s the most stable machine I’ve ever seen.
So the post of me making a poor suggestion and it becoming a personal attack of sorts rubbed me wrong. My apologies for going off … but this experience with Bliz is bull****.
Not everyone got a solution with the above fix that’s not recommended by Bliz… and the software still attempts to do a write to a drive. I do believe them when they suggest that it’s SSD related; the ‘old’ box has none of these issues - it’s running WoW with HDR enabled in windows without issue and it’s beautiful on a 49" Samsung 8 series 4k tv (at 1080p mind you).
The Intel machine is built with an i5-9600k and RX580, 32gb ram. It’s built to run either OSX or Windows and does so without issue on two M.2 Intel 660p’s. It’ also has the stutter, although still playable.
The AMD machine has a Ryzen 5 3600 paired to a RX590 with a single M.2 Intel 660p and one SSD connected to SATA. This one is the worst and nearly unplayable for any real content… I’ve died several times to being tossed off a cliff.
I remember the days of these suggestions that Bliz has on updated drivers, yadda yadda. I didn’t forget - I went and ensured each piece of hardware was running its own proper drivers.
The product is embarrassing. My other family members were interested in the new content - the only reason I even bothered coming back.
4 BfA licenses, 4 subs, a few wow tokens to stock up on gold. I added up the list of transactions outside of subs on my account over the years that they have documented (back only to 2010, even though I’ve played since vanilla) and that amount adds up to around $700. I’d guess between old accounts, licenses, purchase of at least two copies of each expansion up to MoP, that Bliz is into me at over $5000. I have nearly a full year of played time on the second account created alone.
So I’m not new to this nonsense, I do enjoy the game, but it should work for an investment like this. I prefer entertainment at home, as it tends to be safer and less expensive - my day job is all about entertainment.
Bliz blew me off on separating my two accounts and suggested I make another… at the cost of a new license and sub …
They offer parental controls but won’t separate an account for a Parent/child relationship until 18 years old… even though a child can’t have an account and they encourage allowing kids to play.
The only impression I can gather is they thrive on the addiction of gaming and get to hide behind the internet to avoid their responsibilities to their customers.
So… I hope all the folks in this thread realize that we are all being played as a number in their sub hat and are deserving of a solution. I’m not your enemy - I’m just another *issed off customer hoping that someone fixes a product that a 15 year experience should be good enough to not have these types of issues.
If I wanted a bad experience, I would go order a regular McDonalds order and watch how 75% of the time there is something messed up in the order. Bliz used to use this approach and at least offered free game time (free food for the McD’s version) instead of just blowing us off.
Bliz, you’ve done good on the content - but it’s pointless if the content causes hours of frustration for your customer.
Here’s a bit of info if you made it this far into this post:
When the PC freezes, two things are noticeable. My CPU usage goes from 7% to 30% during the ‘freeze’ and then drops back down. Memory allocation stays at 6gb of the 16gb in my machine. Video card has 8mb. Microsoft Edge uses more CPU/GPU resources with 4-5 tabs open than WoW according to the resource monitor. Disabling full screen optimizations does help marginally with performance and reduces stutter for a short period; eventually the stutters revert back to the hard 1-2 second freezes.
/walloftext off
/screenstutter off -please
We’re cool. I’m sorry I came off like I did. I put a wall o text down below of my frustration.
I’ve tried several quality settings (low, high, reading suggested settings, etc), bouncing between the DX11/12’s, adjusting AA pre/post, resetting (deleting wtf/interface/yadda yadda) and starting from scratch. I’m on a gigabit fios line w/ Orbi mesh running on AX wireless pci’s. Likely 6 hours or so of my life I won’t get back…
I’ve read up a bit on those settings and did attempt the disable on the FS optimization in troubleshooting. I’ve tried running as an admin, as it seems win10 is trying to copy file protections with their bs file system (this my entitled ‘mac’ user coming out!) but breaks third party programs in doing so. Hell, maybe Bliz should put the game on the app store …
I have the list of addons… BenikUI mod for ElvUI, auctioneer, all the datastore supporting addons, recount, some silverdragon addon that flashes the rares when they’re detected, vuhdo, rematch for pet battles/team setup saves/scripting, and likely another one or two I don’t remember… DBM I think is on there.
The reaction of the PC does change by setting read-only and not allowing the client to replace the files by running wow directly from _retail. It’s merely a smaller stutter - it’s pretty clear that the software is still attempting to do whatever ‘bug’ it has. I do wonder if anyone happens to run a second monitor and has file explorer up on the screen where they can see the ‘refresh’ of the list reaction from Windows… the scroll bars flash when there is a screen freeze.
I had zero issues with these setups prior to 8.2.5.
Yes /10chars
Same. I thought it was my addons but I removed them all and am still getting it.
OMFG. 2 weeks, 21k views, 800+ posts and no bug fixed. This is pretty annoying and disappointing.
