Sorry, I should have clarified.
I mean no danger in the actual process of tanking.
That’s on me.
Like the actual act of tanking is legit boring in this in terms of gameplay.
You guys are listing issues outside of the tank more and more of, player relations?

The first has happened before, early on in my MMO life, I learned my lesson and it hasn’t happened since.
The second is player relations and nothing to do with your skills as a tank.
The third is the same.
What I meant is that the actual act of being a tank in this game is not hard at all.
Man kinda reminds me of the RS and Jad folks. Back in the day, everyone went. “OMFG Jad is so hard… it’s a fire cape, those are so rare, so cool!” And everyone was a newb at the game and had fun. People logged in to fish at catherby, and then everyone talked about hard RS was, and who zezima was, and how the content was so difficult. Same with classic.
Then after 10 years, people got better and more seasoned at the game. Things that were hard when they were younger, they now had years of practice. Taking switches and dpsing a boss no one knew, was hard and 90% of people didn’t know what they were doing or even knew what a DPS was People brought fire mages to ragnaros, completely unaware that they were being Immuned the whole time. Then people got better, people found rotations and addons. People found out that ragnaros, the hard fight from vanilla died in a single day with people in their 50s and 53s joining to kill the boss.
If you go into M+ though, and push keys you can definitely choose to stay at a level you’re comfy or push for those nearly one shot by trash, kiting everything moments though.
I mean I would love to tank on my warrior and pally but I mean… no 1h or shield combo in my bags so I guess I’ll just keep joining groups as a DPS until I can get something to drop oh joy.
Trinkets and essences are like one thing. But damn leave our weapons alone. Legion had it right. My offspec weapons were never too far behind my mainspec weapons.

Besides the whole people are nasty aspect, most tanks have to get a new weapon, (or two) farm completely different essences, and keep another set of Azerite gear for when they want to DPS. How is that fun? Not to mention that corruption effects that actually made tanking kinda fun are being nerfed.
It’s 100% blizzard’s fault. Their current attitude of grind this and grind that make it miserable to stay current in offspecs, let alone other characters.

ty for clarifying, yes youre right but thats also kinda the problem.
everything takes so long to die you could afk, make a steak dinner and come back before youre finished killing the damn thing.

yes! and if youre a tank main youre punished for being a tank main.
except for sachels of cooperation. ez money.
I mean ok, I get your point but player relations are going to be a thing in any MMO my friend, especially when you’re expected to communicate to a group of people, that expect you to know what you are doing as a tank, which is part of tanking also.
I don’t find tanking any more boring than DPSing. Although I main a healer myself and find that significantly more challenging than either tanking or DPSing.
I think it also comes down to what class/spec, I find Bear tanking very boring, I don’t mind Veng DH or Blood DK but prefer my Prot Pally as I can also spot heal a group and Pally is just easy mode everything.
I don’t Warrior tank anymore and I don’t play my Monk enough beyond leveling to give a meaningful opinion.
Yeah!
For me, that is really boring.
Like I stopped being a tank main back in Emerald Nightmare cause a bear tanking another bear got so boring.
But, I could just be jaded with tanking as a whole as that’s what I end up doing in every MMO. Never really done DPS before outside of leveling my druid lol

That’s going to be hard to do as long as timed runs are the standard. Combined with how gearing is setup in this xpac and there is even less incentive to branch out.
Then you factor in how you only need 2 tanks max for a raid no matter how big the raid group is(when all other roles increase) and getting into raid groups gets more complicated as well.
Then on top of all this the mythic+ system trains casuals to think X tank isnt good enough for mythics, because per the usual casuals typically follow FOTM in thinking their +10 requires the meta and you just have a mess.
People are too scared to experiment when the gearing penalty is so high, combined with all the unknowns of grouping. BFA’s itemization system has done more to hurt tanks than any iteration I can remember.

Bear tank for 15 years only switching to Heals when needed.
Player relations for me don’t factor into skill as a tank, but that’s just my opinion.
I find I don’t even need to be on voice (as in me talking) anymore, I just listen and go. From the tank perspective, fights aren’t complex at all.
My goal at one point for this game was to be hit in the face by every boss as a tank. That ended around the end of cata for me. I didnt have a guild at that point to run with and had alot of horrible experiences with pugs.

Do you guys have deathstrike out of curiosity in aoe dps specs? I found the mobility of VDH was really high, but the 12k ST dps of a 90% parse was really infuriatingly terrible when so many people in heroics are undergeared. I just found myself giving up on tank spec there.
On the flip side i actually think it’s more interesting and fun taking damage again in heroics and gives the healer 5k-10k healing something to do. That’s like with just raw 20% armor in mythic+ and past mythic raid gear though from last expac. , I can about take advantage of blur and the meta for 6 seconds but then when i fall out and if dps pull i am VERY SQUISH lol but i actually managed to tank like up to +5 and +7 in dps spec lol during S3 rofl as a joke carrying 4x some fresh 300 toons up lol. (Well… there was a 300 ilvl leveling tank spec… but he died… Tanking and ilvl linked armor obviously aren’t very friendly. The rest of the specs don’t need gear, but the tank and healers do, but once you overgear content just becomes more boring! When you undergear though, it’s torture on earth and pug toxicity though. )
I recently made this goal for myself actually, so I’ve finally started leveling alts and getting off my druid.
Brewmaster feels super fun!

Not sure if you happen to have noticed friend, but 90% of gear is homogenous.
Most tanks have at best 3-4 slots (only 2 for DKs) that they “need” to swap, which honestly isn’t much to ask.
What would you prefer? That all trinkets are simple stat sticks? Because that is realistically the only change you could potentially make.
im jaded, cynical, and i dont trust dps’s, even if theyre guildies most times.
youd be a perfect tank.
tanking is knowing everyone BUT you will die, and preventing that.
its playing mother to a bunch of children bent on sticking forks into sockets and drinking bleach, in a bleach factory.

Title says it. Getting a tank these days has become stupid. Raids and Mythic+ constantly held up waiting for someone to join.
It also may seem like letting people who have no tanking experience give it a go is a bad idea
so the issue is there are no tanks yet you don’t seem to want people to learn how to tank?
I would love to tank I just don’t have the time for all the grinds for rep, ap, essences, cloak.
cool game.
If essences weren’t hell I’d have 5 tanks and 3 are on Alliance! Essences and AP pretty much kill every desire to play anything. At this point in expansions gearing alts was always great but not this time. Even legion let alts get legendaries pretty quickly at the end.

This is exactly why I have my mic off.
My guild knows, if I’m ever on mic in a raid and talking, someone screwed up and I’m pissed lol.
I’m that guy that’ll write out the entire strategy, talk about who is doing bad where in whispers, then get on voice and tell people off who keep screwing up lol.
Almost always last person alive, then again, I will also shadowmeld when I know a wipe is coming.
