Lack of Male leaders in WoW

James Bond has always been weird to me because he always came off as like your typical white dudes power fantasy of getting the pretty girl and saving the day.

It’s boring and dull but some enjoy the simplicity I suppose

Really? You want to limit writers to only write about the sex they know? What will be next? That we’re only allowed to write about ethnicity we are part of?

Because apparently we cannot relate to other human beings? We never interacted with opposing sex and we cannot draw from our own experiences? We never had spouses, partners, colleagues friends that shaped us through our entire life.

I have a great problem with that because this kind of view is implying that we cannot look past our own reflection. That we’re incapable understanding other humans past superficial differeneces. And this is very tribalistic approach.

So I cannot agree with that. When Tolkien wrote about Eowynn, when males created Lara Croft, or when female writers wrote about males - like Hercule Poirot or Harry Potter.

Some people can’t though, you’ll find they often project this on others as well.

Yeah but it was Kevin Sorbo though :stuck_out_tongue:

The only male leader I miss was Nathanos, and Putress.

I don’t know if Nathanos is a leader or more of a leaders side kick. I think Gallywix called him the Banshee Prince or something like that.

I have always been a fan of Adal. He was cool with the Blood Elves, and that makes him cool with me. And Xera made him even better, knowing that he was pretty chill, while there are other Naaru out there forcing themselves on guys that they fangirl over.

Adal is a nice dude. And he helped that one Paladin in WotLK when others could not (I know the canonicity of that is in question, since it was more like a tribute quest for someone IRL. But that they used Adal for that quest means he is seen by the Devs as a benevolent character).

Adal is like… Kosh. Kosh gave us the impression that the Vorlon race was wise and benevolent. Then he got himself killed and we found out the he was the only nice one of the bunch.

Well, except the Sha’tar naaru in general seem to be operating under the A’dal mentality, and the Genedar naaru come across as having been benevolent as well (before they were wounded and started to void-shift.)

Meaning insofar as the numerous naaru we’ve met, Xe’ra with her hardline positions has been the odd one out. The rest have all been pretty decent and willing to work with mortals as-is without forcing rigid standards and expectations of their own on us in the process.

It makes me wonder if the whole “Light Mother” thing she proclaims is something Adal recognizes, or if maybe Xera is a Naaru that he parted ways with long ago over some conflict.

Perhaps her title as “Light Mother” is some false self-exuberance.

Funny you bring this up (sorry I’m late to this topic) but I had this same conversation with female/male gay friends on Guild Wars 2 complain that seem that a lot of MMO and other RPG tittle have been taking this direction. They actually said the same thing and mention WoW but mostly complaining about Guild Wars 2 lack of “interesting” Male leads or companions (They have hopes with the new expansion now).
(Baldur’s Gate 3 being excluded as they are almost in love with a few of the Male companions and NPCs there lol)

Just wanted to mention it because they mention the same things but about the other game too… so maybe its like part of the Modern Story telling and the people being hired to write them, maybe?

Again with magic and stuff sure. Like in real life women can’t be stronger than the strongest male. In wow characters like Jaina, Tyrandre are more powerful than any male characters but it’s due to magic not strength.

Again some species you do have bigger and stronger females. I don’t get what I said wrong or the argument is here

Not true, take mongols for example they have high positions to women.

Your trying to spin this into something it’s not.

This isn’t real life it’s fantasy. When Hercules isn’t around, men can’t contest Xena.

Same pretty much goes for Wonder Woman who can win in a fight with Superman because she’s willing to kill a lot sooner than he is. Or if she’s packing that blade of hers.

I think you missing what I’m saying. Sure with super natural powers and we have female characters doing that already. As I had mentioned earlier.
