Korthia Catch Up Gear: What am I Missing?

Okay, I’m seeing people talk about these catch up gear tokens in Korthia, as if they are somehow an improvement on Benthic gear from BFA.

What am I missing here? Benthic catch up gear was plentiful and dropped from everything. Korthia tokens are few and far between in terms of drops, expensive to buy from the only vendor who has them, and completely random in the slot you get.

Is there a secret fount of plentiful Korthia gear tokens I somehow haven’t found yet?

Gotta drag out the game somehow right?

you can level up a gear piece from 200 -220 in a matter of a few days farming loot boxes and rares.

Considering how this forum is full of people who are saying they’ve been running around Korthia for days without many rates and treasures, I think you are mistaken. I’ve done everything and spent hours there each day on my main and I’ve barely found any.

Plus you have to have the token to get one of these pieces of loot, you know.

It just boils down to luck. I’ve run several alts through korthia since it opened and some alts get lucky and some don’t.

I could be wrong…but I don’t remember Benthic Gear being upgradable to the highest normal raid ilvls

I think it’s a server thing. I’ve managed to level two gear pieces to 220 already and it’s been 3 days.

I’ve already reached Friendly with the Death’s Advance and I can purchase a full set of Catch up gear for any of my 12 alts.

In time this catch up gear will overshadow Normal raid gear so I can even have a back up set for my main.

lmao.

That’s the problem… it’s even random if you get anything, and then it’s random what slot you get, and then it’s random as to what rare or treasure will show up to give you those 8 cataloged research that you need a thousand more of to give you that upgrade.

Random random random.

How is that fun for catch up gear? It’s not raiding or m+, it’s CATCH UP GEAR.

Because you have a ton of Stygia from 9.0 right?

I don’t. I need the catch up gear.

Korthian gear is not an improvement on Benthic gear in any way.

Bodyguard dailies in 8.2 were guaranteed to grant manapearls. Not only treasures and rares, but also world quests granted manapearls. And as you mentioned, you could target slots.

Korthian gear by comparison is much more grindy and RNG dependent.

Many of the players praising the system are gear-gatekeeping elitists who think that the whole point of the system should be to keep the casuals grinding for months just for baseline power.

Many of them seem to be replying to this thread above, too.

What part of the phrase “catch up gear” don’t they get?

With the Jailer’s Eye gone you can mow down the entire sea of rares in the Maw without getting a high wanted level.

Ve’nari now gives out daily quests and usually one of those have a lot of Stygia.

For casuals it’s not catch up gear…it’s just gear. Why shouldn’t they spend a comparable amount of time to gear as the rest of us?

They made it super fast in 9.0…and the “casual” community complained that they had nothing to do

Now they get better gear and a longer grind. Win/Win

Benthic gear upgraded to 425 item level with power-related bonuses, at a time when Heroic was 430, so some slots were actually Heroic BiS.

Korthian gear is stuck at Normal with no domination bonuses.

90 stygia is not a lot. All the high amount weekly quests from her were turned into small reward dailies.

That’s not the argument. At all. Because you are making presumptions about other people and you’re wrong.

I want catch up gear on my alts. I raid on my main. I am fine on my main. I like catch up gear on my alts because it gives me a reason to play them.

Benthic gear was just fine for that. Korthia gear is a MESS.

Also stop using “casual” as a dirty word. Casual players PAY JUST AS MUCH AS YOU DO FOR THIS GAME.

Ion loves world of RNGcraft, nothing new.

Nope, they made it take a REASONABLE amount of time - a couple of months - by which stage the raiders were all decked out in heroic gear at least.

And somehow this utterly patronising idea that casuals “got their gear too fast and then complained” lingers on.

When it was the removal of Titanforging, imposing a brick-wall hard ilvl cap on non-raiders, that made everything feel boring.

But at least the gatekeepers got to feel superior and stuff.

How did my usage imply a negative interpretation? Since you obviously have an agenda here there is no point in even having this conversation
