To log into the forums? Or the Account Management page? It is just that it’s popping up or does it keep refreshing and not allowing you to log in?
We have a lot of different security measures in place, a Captcha is one of them. I’m not sure how often it usually shows up.

Usually I’ve only seen the Captcha when you type in the wrong password, the second attempt will start to check if you are human or a bot.
That would explain the first time, but then it did it again the next time I logged in
As I said… Usually… It might check a few times since there was an issue and after consistent log ins it might stop asking. I couldn’t tell you for certain.
Captcha has expanded the methods it uses over the years.
I haven’t seen the WoW captcha prompt but not all captcha’s work by just recognizing funny characters.
Some also, or only, have an “I am Human” check box.
Hitting that box results in your recent browsing activity being checked by an algorithm to see if it reflects human browsing.
Sites that display the I am Human box often do a preliminary scan of your browsing activity to see it it needs to apply the scan in greater depth by displaying the box to click and/or displaying the garbage characters.
It’s possible for your recent browsing patterns to flag you for a capture box.
