Never forget that no matter how deep the hatreds, no matter how fierce the battles, the Alliance and Horde can both find time out of their day to slaughter the original inhabitants of the land they’re fighting over.
Seriously, that’s the worst part about Arathi Highlands. I hated doing “Wiping Out The Witherbark”. In the expansion where we get to see the Zandalari and expand on Troll lore, we none the less gotta throw a little “wipe this troll tribe off the face of Azeroth” in to our questing. I wish I could just side with the tribes who want to summon Hakkar.
I have. He’s one of the coolest villainous things in this games lore. I expect he’ll be probably ruined shortly because of that.
Yeah, I just threw that in there cause sometimes it’s how I feel lol. Like if I was gonna side with any of the “bad guys” that aren’t mortal, it’d be Hakkar. I love how he’s this mystical dark god no one knows the origins of, and how he answered the call of the Gurubashi in their time of need.
…You’re aware that the Zandalari wanted to prevent Hakkar’s resurrection, right? Not just any Zandalari, but envoys, priests, warriors, emissaries and servitors of King Rastakhan himself, as well as the loa Zanza.
Even Rastakhan saw what the Gurubashi were doing and said “nope, not happening”.
I was disappointed the Witherbark tribe and Boulderfist clan didn’t join the Horde in BfA. The warfront quests even suggested the Horde is receptive to recruiting them and possibly tried but was refused. I guess they could be more motivated to join the Horde now though. Stromgarde is restored with Danath Trollbane in charge (and maybe crowned, making Stromgarde a proper kingdom again). Stromgarde and the Alliance were victorious in Arathi and are free to expand their power there. The Witherbark might want allies now that Trollbane, Stromgarde, and its “troll hunters” are unopposed.
Quest: Wiping Out the Witherbark (Horde vesion):
Summary
The bloodthirsty Witherbark tribe has always refused to join the Horde… and now that the Horde holds Arathi, we will succeed where the Alliance has failed. Drive the forest trolls from the Highlands.
Quest: Boulderfist Beatdown (Horde vesion):
Summary
If the Boulderfist ogres will not join the Horde, there is no place for them in Arathi. You know what must be done.
Nobody likes Hakkar, however the old zul’gurub raid was just whacking a troll and used every tribe from EK in that place as the high priest/priestess from Zandalar were used there as bosses.
I mean at this point that’s like a Forsaken player whining about exterminating mindless undead.
The Darkspear and Zandalari have both joined under the banner of the Horde. Dazar’Alor even opened it’s port to non-trolls, before joining the Horde, for the first time ever. When the only two conquering Troll groups go “Ya know this Troll Nationalism really isn’t working out- best to evolve with the times” and you don’t agree?
Well have fun clinging to your miserable little holdings. The Revantusk had the right idea from day one. If the Amani were as clever I’m sure Zul’Aman would be a bustling metropolis right now and they wouldn’t have to slum it in Dazar’Alor- where they’re so despised the Zandalari immediately ask you to challenge and kill their champions.
At this point the Witherbark’s best use is as a replenishing ration supply for the Defilers. Capture a couple, hack off some limbs, let the grow back. Rinse and repeat.
Yeah, but they were also explicitly sent there to quell Hakkar and were forcibly turned to his service instead.
So it was more of a “lol Hakkar corruption” thing compared to, say, the original Zul’Aman, which is literally “hey let’s loot this place, it’s just trolls so who cares”.
They eventually happened across the Revantusks and launched many attacks against the small tribe.
The Witherbarks were once allied with the Horde and Thrall, but they betrayed him, and the Darkspear tribe unleashed the fury of the Darkspear trolls and young adventurers upon them
When Hakkar was brought back in Zul’Gurub, the Witherbarks sent Witherbark Speaker, as an ambassador for their tribe, in order to possibly ally themselves with the Gurubashi.
Yea the “lol corruption” was a low blow and agree Zul’aman is even worst for said mentioned reasons.
You know I often find funny and hilarious hates a lot the non human races(at least the writer team) despite being one of the major and best things Warcraft. Looks like Blizzard is currently filled by writers that follows the school of Cassern Goto
Nope just Blizzard pulling this out of nowhere to justify some dumb idea just like Void Elves
Nathanos Blightcaller says: These Witherbark trolls are the last remnants of a doomed tribe. They were driven from the Hinterlands by the armies of the Dark Lady. Let’s finish the job, shall we?
Thanks Nathanos
This is what I was disappointed with. Was looking forward to urinating on the ruins of Stromgarde.
Both really had no choice. The Darkspear are more understanding because Thrall saved them and gave them a new home. The way the Zandalari join leaves a sour taste in the mouth. They join under Sylvanas after being shown as a totally incompetent failing kingdom.
I hated that quest too and is one of the initial reasons I disliked the Zandalari. Amani and Sandfury “thugs”?? Really Blizz?
Anyways I disagree. The Horde abandoned the Amani, not the other way around.
My comment on Hakkar was partially in jest… though I am starting to question that maybe he wasn’t all that bad, and maybe the threat was greatly exaggerated to kill the Gurubashi off
He’s also just aesthetically one of my favorite villains.
Huh that’s odd. Do you remember if it was always a world quest? For some reason I thought all the quests were accepted from a quest giver npc in each base. I thought it was a high elf on Alliance side. I haven’t been there since 8.0 though.
Hakakr is really cool. My like for trolls come and go, and I am not sure why. Sometimes I think they are cool, other times I find them annoying.
For some reason, I like them more in the RTS games, and in WoW, I don’t really like t hem at all. However, playing Reforged, I was reminded of a particular bit of dialogue that I found interesting.
Thrall runs into some Forest Trolls and says something along the lines of “I can’t believe these cretins were every part of the Horde.”
I have to wonder what they did to earn Thrall’s ire? Is that ever explained?
But no I don’t think it was always a world quest. Right at first you got the initial quests from an NPC, but later on they opened up world quests because of the badges. They’re basically like dailies. When your faction controls the zones there is world quests there every day that award like 1 badge. I stopped doing them cause its like 700 for the mount and I got burned out after like 500.
Probably to push the message that “this Horde is different”, and to set up the later butchering of Zul’jin, whom was an ally of the old Horde.
