Please, no more flying mid of the expac after we all got bored and geared up… please just release it earlier, and by earlier I mean SO EARLIER.
Thank you,
Smashy.

They’ve been pretty open about it releasing in 9.1, with renown requirements instead of rep.
That’s still far too late. This needs to happen at max level or soon after. This pathfinder time gate is obnoxious.
i miss the old days of being able to buy it with gold as soon as we reached max level, now we have the pleasure of grinding things we dont wanna do so we can unlock pathfinder
I like Pathfinder in concept.
The idea of doing content, experiencing the world and gaining flight across all characters is nice.
Where it becomes a problem is when “experiencing the world” means lurking in it for so long that by the time you get flight you barely need to be out and about anymore. And if you DO need to be out and about it may be in a new endgame zone with no flight.
Of course the ideal solution is for Blizz to stop thinking of flying as an enemy of design and start making content FOR it. Again. Make content for it again. They had flight-heavy zones in Burning Crusade and Wrath. Not sure why they abandoned those when access to flying mounts has never been easier…
That could be months away.
Even then it hasn’t been confirmed if flying is possible.
how do you design walls if everyone flies? they’d have to re-invent architecture. the zones would be more like underground caves and domes and indoor areas.
would players be okay with flying but an altitude restraint where they cant fly over walls or up cliffs?
I suggest you go play through the zones in TBC, Wrath, Cata, and MoP. They managed. It’s not rocket science.
Also zones without walls are far superior to those with. The zone design introduced in Legion is garbage. It’s cluttered, claustrophobic, extremely annoying to traverse and destroys the big open feeling that was a core part of the WoW experience.
i think this is as good as we are going to get.
I played through the cata launch. We literally piled on top of the flight master waiting for it to start. We had flying literally a second int that expansion. It was awesome. Far better than pathfinder.
Why? We had flying for 8 years until they took it away. They need to put it back.
That will never happen, because of their interest in the player engagement metric, which they measure by time logged in per game session. Longer is better, so flying will be delayed as long as they think is needed to get their metrics where they want them to be, just like any business adjusts things around their performance metrics.
We will be getting it earlier than in the past and easier, which are both good. However, keep in mind that flying is much less useful in this expansion than in earlier ones, because (1) you cannot fly between zones and (2) travel between zones all involves going by taxi to Oribos and then taking another taxi to the zone where you are going from Oribos (perhaps using a hearth for one leg, where available). So even after we unlock flying, it won’t be like other expacs where we can just mount up and fly off to where we want to go – much more restricted here, which is certainly why we are getting it more quickly and more easily: it’s also far less useful to us.
And The Maw has no flying, and no ground mounts either.
because the designers hate flight. they think it’s a mistake that never should have happened in the first place.
They need to change their metrics, just like they did when they decided flying needed to go.
can always add invisible walls and dismounting NPCs…
It’s too bad. The players want it. We pay for the game. Blizzard designers are notoriously egotistical and make huge mistakes all the time because they think they know best.
Or not because you care about good game play.
Is roughly 3 weeks of rep/renown grind considered “soon after” to you?
Because IMO that’s just about the perfect timeframe to delay flight. Let slower players experience everything from the ground while other people are still present. Force people to do most everything before they can skip over it. But ultimately, at that point, yeah, sure, let people fly.
But I don’t agree with instant max level flying Day 1.
Look, I like flying as much as anyone else, but flying isn’t coming back just because we want it to.
The only way flying would ever come back is if the number of players shrank to a very low level and it was clear to Blizzard that everyone was leaving because of flying. Then they may change how they design the game – money talks. Until then, complaining about it while we play along and pay our subs expac and expac just makes them nod their heads and pat us on the head while they are taking their money and chuckling to themselves.
If you feel so strongly about flying, lead a crusade to get millions of players to leave the game and loudly state everywhere on social media that it is due to flying. Short of that, restricted flying is here to stay.
I honestly couldn’t remember flight at Cata launch but it makes sense. I was around for it too but all I remember are earthquakes and elementals leading up to it, heh.
Hyjal is another flight-designed zone so I guess questing there without would be a bit of a nightmare.
