Just joining the Xpac for MoP, need advice

Hi all, I’m just returning to the game. It’s a rough time in the xpac to be looking for a raid guild. I’m all caught up as far as 5 man gear, really just as a prep for MoP. I’m open to criticism but please don’t hammer away too hard, I’m fragile lol.

So far the GM’s and recruiters I have spoken with have not been very kind, many have been condescending and outright insulting. I completely get that I have no recent logs, therefore, recruiters have nothing to go on. I’ve tried to find my old logs, they’re gone as is the guild that I last raided with.

I’m looking for suggestions on the best way to find my way back in. I know it’s not enough to bring up Bane or heroic Ruby Sanctum because it’s obsolete. I did get to run MSV with a guild on Atiesh but they have a Disc Priest wife - no opening there.

I’m looking for a raid guild that I know will be a good fit. One recruiter suggested that I join a guild that is currently only clearing 1 or 2 heroics but I don’t know how helpful that would be. It would probably be easy to pad logs and learn fights but heroic progression guilds don’t care about norm logs. I suddenly understand the hatred certain players have for logs-- if you’re current, all’s well. If not, they really aren’t going to help you.

What would be the best suggestion you could give to a returning player? Should I wait until MoP drops and just pug along guildless? Disc is a hard spot to come by to begin with.

I’m actually hoping a fresh guild made just for MoP will pop up but it seems like cliques and friendships have been made and the likelihood is low. It’s rough to break in, especially as Disc. It’s really all I know. I’m Aspie and am set in my Disc Priest ways. I hate change.

----Just extra reading because I have to tell someone, anyone my experience so far----

Last week I interviewed with a GM who was also the recruiter. I told him that I didn’t know the fights but did watch videos but we all know videos can only get you so far. I told him that I really only came back to prepare for MoP and didn’t plan on raiding until MoP. He was all, “Ahhh don’t worry about it, I’ll give you the explanations as we go”, mind you, I’m learning new fights in heroic mode in 388 gear.

We get to Hagara the GM instruction was “If you get the debuff, run to the bubble”. Sure enough I got the debuff, and tried to run to the bubble, failed and the raid wiped because I was a healer. I now know after going back and rewatching videos that he meant the CIRCLE and not “the bubble”. You step in and step out, you do not go for the bubble lol. Anyway, a Mage raged (at every freshman mistake I made), told me I suck and I was removed from the raid. I PM’d the GM in Discord and said, “hey I’m so sorry, I told you I don’t know the fights”… he called me a troll and removed me from their Discord server.

I have since joined different server Discords and have contacted recruiters who specifically say they are recruiting for MoP but when I speak to them, they’re really just playing out to the very end of Cata because they haven’t cleared heroic yet. They seem to be searching for a heroic geared player that they believe will carry them through the clear!

Some of the things that have been said to me are just so ridiculously elitist which makes me laugh because if they’re all that, would they still be fighting for a kill after 2 and 3 x nerfs? But now look who is acting like the elitist lol. It’s such a dance and balancing act at this stage of the xpac.

Editing for clarity: What would be the best way to find a DISC spot at this stage of the game? My interest is in MoP, not Cata. Is there any novice class? By novice, I mean, easy to learn for someone who has only played one class forever.

I think you understand most of the problems. Disc is a limited spot and you’ll have a harder time now if you don’t know the fights if you’re someone that needs a lot of time to learn them.

Might be easier to stick to a normal guild that easily clear 8/8 and try to jump to another one after you understand fights a bit more as yes guild that still prog heroic might not be the best place to learn nor would 8/8 heroic guilds be.

Unfortunately this late into the expansion you’d have better luck finding a unicorn than a guild that is both friendly to newcomers and good enough to do heroic. Any group that has heroic on farm is either already set, or just fully on break, and anyone still actively progging more than likely has a few issues

The good news is Disc in Pandaria is, alongside Resto shaman, the king healer spec, so you’ll have a pretty solid shot at finding something once Pandaria is in its swing

I 100% agree with this.

Right now I’d relax and enjoy the scenery and once Panda starts, start looking then. You’ll be on even footing with everyone else and it will make things much easier.

Also I’ve never had to “interview” for a guild. This is not a job no interview required (imo). Any guild these days that make you “interview” - move away from…they are too self-important.

Excellent points all around. Thank you.

I think I’ll just hang around Beta and find things to keep me entertained until the xpac drops and maybe log into live and up my gold game.

Lies, if he isnt full H DS BiS bmat panda launch he is already to far behind!

At this point just look for a chill guild that is able to clear all normal and you can progress through heroics with them.

If it helps than we should be seeing these new guilds pop up as soon as the prepatch hits. It always seems like new guilds don’t start popping up until after prepatch. Btw disc is very strong in pandaria so I doubt you will have any problems there.

Guess Blizzard’s in Game Code of Conduct isn’t working.

Not sure what you mean by this. Premade groups having requirements has nothing to do with the code of conduct.

what server on you on we have been running 6/8 heroic with 22 people in raid lmao
(this is an invitation not a dunk)
