Yeah NU torghast is cringe turned up to max.
Yeah NU torghast is cringe turned up to max.
I can’t tell if this is a joke or not.
Oh I do agree about that. Too much of the game is not explained within the game. They rely on things like Wowhead way too much. I’m not sure why its the way it is - maybe they think we don’t want lots of chat boxes telling us stuff. Well, I could certainly do with that when I get a key in the Maw and have zero idea what it is even used for…
Why would it be a joke?
I listed a handful of things that you should be doing in every run to make sure you get plenty of extra points. I do flawless runs for the bonus floors every week. I only listed half the things that grant bonus points.
The new system is still dumb, but I don’t struggle in it. I just find it extremely tedious.
I’ve been trying to just completely ignore that the scoring system exists, do my own thing and just pretend it’s just a layer of RNG in the rewards.
(easier said than done, but it eliminates a lot of frustration)
then you need to read up on the scoring system and pick a few to target. you don’t need all of them. it’s much easier than people make it out to be. i was running a quick one last night before raid and thought for sure I’d be lucky to get 4 stars… nope, 5 again.
Just check wowhead guide on what gives score and do exactly that.
The timer both does and does not exist.
People need to think of the timer as bonus points. You get some? Cool…they aren’t mandatory. Instead, you focus on achieving as many bonus point categories as possible.
For example, I don’t even bother thinking I’ll get the no elite reaches 4 stacks…will never happen with frick poor blood DK DPS…but I can very much make sure 2 elites die within 10 seconds (except when you get the blessing that “blesses” you" by killing said elite at 40%…). As a DK, it’s very easy to avoid purple powers since only a very select few are great and even then are still very optional.
The anima hoarding is also super easy because it isn’t like there are a ton of vendor powers critical if I’m just going at my own pace…avoiding traps too is a huge one that I am sloppy on since I am used to surviving anything I want most of the time anyway. You are almost guaranteed to get at least 1 floor to rescue someone or a treasure to unlock and then it is focusing on avoiding duplicate powers if I can (not always possible) and trying to get 5 in a stat buff (not always possible).
Getting a full completion plus some of those powers (and getting some bonus points for using enpowerment to break jars and weak/nearly dead trash) and usually some form of bonus points gets you 4 stars everytime. In fact, the only run I 3-starred was on an alt where me and my friend got into a death spiral and had 4 or 6 deaths on one double elite pull that got out of hand (stupidity on our fault)…each death past your free 1-2 costs 10 points each.
I get 2 stars every time on my resto druid that runs it as a tank
People have given you plenty of ways to get your 4 star. The system is fine.
GitGud
The scores and timing and stars for torghast is stupid anyway. It doesn’t even feel like WoW.
Of the different categories of the scoring:
Completion caps out at 100 points.
Time bonus caps out at 50 points.
There are over 150 points available from bonuses.
Bonus points are the biggest chunk of available scoring. You need 160 points to 4-star and 200 points to 5-star.
The time bonus is there for people who want to go quickly and make up points while ignoring some of the bonuses. That’s not me, so I ignore the timer and focus on slow and steady, and make up points with bonuses.
There are different ways to play Torghast, now.
Options. That’s what everyone keeps saying they want.
Kill elites within 15 seconds of each other, don’t stack powers, kill a broker, end the run with 500 currency etc
To be fair in this case, I don’t think we should have to go to outside sources to be given a lot of this information. It’s one thing to utilize Wowhead, etc., for optimization of your class/spec, but another if the mechanics of an activity aren’t at all laid out and obscure “bonuses” are necessary for progression of the activity (thus, they aren’t even really bonuses in my opinion),
Say wowhead didn’t exist. Did games always give us a built in guide? I remember buying guide books from game stores myself.
If we had to learn torghast the old fashion way we would probably look at our score card at the end of each run and go “hey there is a point source I didn’t get before!” and take note. You’d compare notes with guildies, friends or randoms and eventually have a full list of the points.
That’s done for us now by ptr players and guide writers. So wowhead is just saving time.
You just making this stuff up as you go along?
I have 5-starred through Floor 11 and didn’t follow this list at all as I def had less than 30 powers, didn’t have 500+ currency before final boss, etc.
Hyperbolize more, please.
Yes there should have been a book next to the tower knowledge box that explains “ways to spite the jailer while exploring his halls” OR the scorecard at the end (or on the UI to the right) should have all the potential powers and a true/false flag marking them when either completed or no longer possible. I have to imagine there will be an addon eventually to track them.
Still though it isn’t like the game is brand new and searching through fan sites is some taboo and unheard of…so really there is little excuse rather than being willfully ignorant at this point for not taking the few minutes to read up and go into your next run better prepared.
Also there is no shame in starting a run over if you mess up on floor 1 or just waiting till future weeks when you can gear up. You can still get the bulk of cinders on 9 and soul ash itself is farmable.
It’s a ridiculous points system.
I dont focus on any of that crap and I’ve gotten at least four stars on every single run, minus the very first run. Even got a few fives.
Clearing the layer should grant access to the next layer. Points/stars should be for achievements and other special rewards.
