San’layn. There’s no debate. They were easily the highlight of the War Campaign for me. Their rich lore and aesthetic is
San’layn, of course. Their aesthetic is much more pleasing, along with a much more interesting backstory.
It’s such a missed opportunity to have them become a Horde allied race in BfA, only to just have them just be put in the Alliance war campaign just so the Alliance can have a mustache twirling villain to beat up and get a fist bump moment. San’layn could have so much done for them with interesting storylines and such. I’m hoping they won’t be forgotten and that we’ll see them eventually join the Horde in Shadowlands instead of just being minions of Sylvanas for the sake of “ghouls before fools.”
I’ll always support San’layn as a playable race.
as far as looks go I thing venthyr would be better because after all the elves and such we’ve gotten recently i’d be nice to have some more “ugly” races.
However overall i’d rather the sanlayn join. Not for visual reason but for lore reasons. I really prefer the playable races be kept the the “mortal” races of azeroth (yes I know that orcs and draenei are from Draenor/Argus). Personally I don’t like the idea of any of the shadowlands denizens becoming playable. The shadowlands is this huge, intricate, infinite, and eternal realm. To me it seems strange that some of them would decide to ditch that sort of existence to become an adventure on some random planet, even if it is a titan world.
Most, if not all, the current playable races have a substantial claim and investment in Azeroth. Obviously I don’t know how Shadowlands is going to end, but I have a hard time picturing there being a reason for any of them to have a legitimate reason to want to come here. Why would they bother? Between constant wars and existential theats every other year, it’s not like it’s this super peaceful or enticing place to come.
Sanlayn, however, are already invested in azeroth. It makes sense that they’d be pulled into joining a faction, especially depending on whatever happens to the scourge by the end of shadowlands
Venthyr, as we have four elvish races already.
Venthyr…We got enough Elven races in the game. Enough is enough. Game could use more “monstrous” looking races. Sign me up for Ogres and those Maldraxxus Gladiators and Lich races too. Being a Lich mage would be pretty awesome.
Both.
I want both.
Ven’thyr, san’alyn are literal blood elves turned vampires. Nothing new but fangs.
What I don’t get is why the Alliance got story arcs with the San’alyn … yet the Horde don’t even get an honorable mention of them for their story arc.
And the stuff they do in said story isn’t some short appearance, they actually make a huge dent toward the Alliance.
All this said … I’d definitely say San’alyn, 100%.
San’layn.
Though I’d rather kill the undead than play them.
As an elf lover… I will have to go with Ven’thyr and hope they add undead options as customization to races instead. There are tons of other options viable to be a unique AR and throwing it away on a fifth elf variant is a bad idea IMO.
Neither. I prefer werewolves to vampires. Which means I’d be more likely to play a vulpera than either of those.
Hey… Sup?
Yeah, I mean they didn’t have to ruin Venthyr with the whole ugly (and played out) Nosferatu thing but they did and here we are with that.
Whoever thought half bald and beady eyed needed to be a thing…
Venthyr have the classic Nosferatu vibe, while San’layn are just Twilight Vampires.
So, Venthyr!
neither. sick of tall elf races. gimmie some stout, strong, shortstack race instead… or more trolls, trolls ftw.
sanlayn as a customization for belfs.
Yeah vampire customization would be super cool, additionally if they explored the vampyr curse lore. I’d love that. I mean, there’s Death Knights for every race, so there’s that. As long as we got fangs and claws (Demon hunters have claws so it ain’t that big a deal) with the customization, I’d be pretty happy.
The only thing I’m wondering in this case is if worgen/forsaken would be able to be vampyr. There are worgen DK though, and forsaken, but we don’t know if the vampyr curse is another thing that can’t work in tandem, like how if you’re a Worgen, you can’t become a forsaken, if that makes sense.
However–flat out, there’s no lore on any of that yet, so it could go any direction. It would certainly take the whole ‘werewolves v. vampires’ thing in a different direction.
In regard to the OP, naturally I pick San’layn, but that’s no surprise based on what I’ve said in my megathread and yeah you get it.
Edit: Not a fan of Venthyr at all and would never play them. However I’d deal with them being an AR if San’layn were a customization (including in a mix of vampire customization) if we got more lore on the vampyr curse.
Going to be honest, I really despise being compared to that series I abhor for liking vampires that aren’t horribly ugly >< There’s more than just a series about a toxic relationship and sparkly vampires out there.
