Oh right, “it is all those filfy casuals that are ruining WoW!” GET A GRIP!
If it wasn’t for the casuals in the first place, this game would’ve not survived this long and would’ve died a long, long, long, time ago. WoW was never meant for the hardcore of hardcore players. Yes, there is some issues at the moment I don’t like:
Classes are boring and are dumbed down too much.
Island Expeditions are unrewarding.
Warfronts are just an easy way for people to do nothing and be handed something
PVP in a nutshell
The rep grind is unrewarding and feels almost as bad as the Artifact Grind
Alliance still trying to learn what a keybind is
Wizards
But casuals in WoW, and content designed for everyone isn’t any reason for why WoW sub numbers are dropping.
Specifically, what instance are you referring to? I ask because if you want to go down a more general road, such an accusation could cut both ways…
You are not, with any perceptible degree of accuracy or validity, able to tie sub numbers to any one specific factor or incident.
You are more than welcome to try, however be advised that whatever results you come up with, are subject to the GIGO principle , and hence utterly useless.
That is the most colossal-- speculation I have heard in a long time. I honestly don’t even know where to begin correcting that statement… WoW’s biggest uptick happened in BC, and BC sure as heck wasn’t as easy and accessible as WoW is now. You take flying for example, that was a privilege for your raiding class of player in BC, FAR from the god given right it became in Cata.
No, the game was never meant to be Ever Quest, but it WAS meant to compete with other MMO’s for players. Matter of fact, many of the early system came from other MMO’s even ones not officially recognized by Blizzard (DKP etc).

Nope.

Well it aint competing now, its LOSING ground steadily to other MMOs that have, by the way, embraced flight and tied it seamlessly into their game.
See, Tenchu, thats been a recurring issue with Blizzard in the last five years…its been a pattern…everybody else seems to be able to do what Blizzard keeps saying cant be done.
You’re talking extremes. “The number of pirates has decreased as global warming has increased.” It’s been a while since I looked at philosophy… Casual reasoning was it? It’s a bit of a silly accusation for you to make in that regard.

I dont have to make an accusation, all I have to do is look at FF14 and the fact they activated two new servers that are full to the brim…with ex WOW players.
I dont see any arbitrary one year timegate added after they finish the content…do you?
The majority of WoW players did not fly until WotLK. In BC flying was necessary only if you wanted to raid, and was otherwise quite costly for the average player.
It is losing ground because they marketed to the WRONG players. Over-convenience, and lack of depth/gameplay have lead the game to this point. This is why those issues must be addressed, and why flying should be secondary (at best).

What I see is a game that FAILED year 1, and had to be scrapped, and rebuilt from the ground up. They did one heck of a job in that regard… Possibly the same sort of job Blizzard needs to do.
Yes, I have looked at their WoW “Refugee guides.” I understand why you find it appealing, but to tie it into sole being able to fly… COOOOOME ON! LOL. Who are you fooling? We both know that is not the main draw of the game over WoW.

Yet there they are adding flight when Blizzard is busy taking it away.
Here is a better suggestion: How about an option to turn flying off? But it has a 30 day cooldown before you can turn it back on and some crazy PvP bonus.
I’d love to see the stats on the people that actually turn it off.
Taking talent trees for example… What you don’t remember is the vocal minority complaining that they couldn’t get into raids. Why was this? It was concluded because those players couldn’t/wouldn’t pick optimal talents (among other things), and so, to help those players, things had to be made easier… and, raids in general, eventually more accessible.
They listened to the feed back alright. They just came to the wrong conclusion about how to handle things… Don’t get me wrong, I’m not defending their reasoning by any means.
In any case, what you dont get is…the longer the timegate, the longer people are stuck on the ground with a worthless “achievement” where the reward is months away…or never…the more will say “yeah thats it, bye”
Blizzard sees flight as a problem. No one else does.
