I have absolutely no idea. It’s probably very cloak and dagger and done IG by a rogue using a dead drop mailbox out in the middle of nowhere, at a specific time on a specific day. And then you have to know the secret handshake, too!
i think culture could effect it. for example, in ancient japan the ladies all stuffed their feet into the tiniest shoes possible because it was a cultural beauty norm to have small feet. this resolved to women tip-toeing when they walked, in small steps, further hampered by heavy silk kimonos, sometimes several layers thick. meanwhile, their neighbors, had no such compunction about small feet and their kimonos were lighter weight, resulting in normal walking. a culture can make a huge difference, even amongst people of the same racial group.
It really feels like they did void elves to spite the alliance.
I don’t play much alli but I want allies to have high elves. It just makes sense and would be a great addition to the game, void elves don’t make any sense and contradict every argument for why high elves are not in the game anyway.
High elves are blood elves. Really but then high elves are blood elves are void elves (invalid argument detected)
Population? There are less void elves than high elves and they can’t make more.
Lore? Irrelevant apparently, they just don’t care.
doesnt the horde have caucasian elves? they got a blue elf and a caucasian elf. we got 2 blue elves because alliance isnt allowed to have caucasian elves. heck, i’d be happy with half elves, with african, asian and caucasian options. if alliance got high elves and blood elves are high elves and can be dark skinned, what makes you think high elves wouldnt also have dark skin options? you a racist or what?
Everything I’ve heard about the writing for velves origin is bad; a better origin would have been a cult of high elves that had been experimenting with the void in order to try and get enough power to retake quelthalas with Alliance players coming in, have them deal with some horrible void entities to keep the elves from going completely bonkers and alleria begins teaching them how to maintain balance and safely induct new people into the rendorei.
Boom, you have a better story that is more closely tied to the alliance then the horde and also setting the velfs up to be natural adversaries of their cousins and thus tying into the theme of faction war.
Yeah. Which is why people were upset about it, even the people who like Velfs conceptually are 50/50 split on the Velf origin story. It just sucks.
I don’t know how anyone can believe that the people who create this game would do anything out of ‘spite’.

One Commander, who was also a jerk to the dwarves iirc, but we don’t see them faction switching.
It’s an aside in my eyes, though. The reasons for blood elves being a thing, on the Horde, is there (separate debate, but I think they need to modify the overall Horde aesthetic from spikes and tribal to better incorporate Blood Elves, Nightborne, and Forsaken–as it is they still feel out of place), but those reasons still aren’t enough to rule out high elves. Again, they are still walking around in Stormwind…Blizzard recognizes they are there and they are doing things in almost every expansion’s storyline; they just don’t let the players roll them.

The real problem are people who can’t think rationally and make absurd accusations against the people who create this game for their fun and enjoyment.

when the reasons people feel this way are brought up, we are told things like… oh that happened a decade ago. or … so sorta high elves? just play horde (meanwhile alliance population plummets, guilds cant find enough replacement players, the devs have to create fake ai to replace alliance population - half of which went horde and the other half went ff 14)
We’re humans part of the original horde? No? 1/10 for trying though.
Well we got them from the alliance? So I mean we also have fog sail humans and alterac humans so…
