It blows. It sucks not only praying for something to drop and then IF it drops having to roll against everyone else for it. Especially when my luck is bad enough already.
Please revert it in Dragonflight. Thanks!
That being Snotzy.

So you’d rather pray that the hidden rolls select you to get loot and then another hidden roll gives you a pieces of loot you want off that boss and not a piece that is worse than what you’re already using?
I would because at least it would take into consideration gear.
You understand that in PL you didn’t even have a choice on what loot it rolled upon for you. It was all done by a decision making engine that did some rolls to see which players where going to win loot and then rolled to see what item from their loot pool they would receive. If that meant you won your third copy of the same trinket or a weapon 20 ilvls below the one you already have, well congrats!
I’m aware.
At least if I got the gear I wanted, I wouldn’t have to compete or if I didn’t, I could roll it off.
Now it’s either I see the loot I want and have to roll against several others, quartering my chances or I just don’t need it.
You were still competing the AI was just hitting need roll for you instead of you having to click roll. With new loot if someone does pass your chance just went up.
That’s the thing. You see and think that it’s unfair. It’s just perception. It feels like you’re losing your item to other people, whereas you’d lose it just as well to the invisible AI with personal loot. Personal loot just doesn’t dangle it in front of you before taking it away.
Pretty sure that’s not how it works.
In scenario A:
Personal loot.
There’s 30 cloth wearers. 4 pieces drop and are deposited directly into the character’s bags and 3 pieces are cloth pieces given to the cloth characters.
In scenario B:
There’s 30 cloth wearers. 4 pieces drop. 2 pieces are plate, 1 is a shield, 1 is cloth. There’s no plate wearers. Half the loot is vendor trash, and a dozen clothies are vying for one piece…
I’m pretty sure with personal loot you’d have a better chance of gear, granted it’s an extreme example. The roll system just sucks in comparison.
Nah, PL worked like this, as per blizzard back in like… wod.
First the game rolls everyone off, so if 25 players exist it rolls for all 25.
System picks the top 5 (or however many pieces it gives out)
If you win that roll, it then rolls again to see what you win.
GL just does it backwards, first it rolls to see what drops, then you roll (if you want it) to see if you win.
So technically under PL you’re always competing against everyone, you just don’t see those rolls.
At least with PL, I’d get SOMETHING. I rarely win anything with GL.
Feels more disappointing. Now I have to win twice(if nothing else, it looks this way, while not with PL). I’d rather just PL say “YOU GET NOTHING, GOOD DAY SIR!”. Than see the item I wanted be there. Click need and lose with a 37 to a guy that didn’t even need it.
Same. I’ve gotten like 1 item I barely needed with a 99, a dozen actual upgrades I lost.
I’m the opposite, I’d rather see the rolls screwing me over then have it hidden.
The main difference is group loot can drop armor type for a class not in the raid. Like you can get mail even if there are no hunters/shamans. The said the reason for that was to try and prevent armor type stacking. Not sure how well it will work. Although with the new Evokers being mail the chance of there being no specific armor type user in a raid is slim.
similar rolls are happening with personal loot, they were just hidden.
This has always been the case, you just didn’t get to see the roll.
You’d prefer to know you’re being screwed? Are you a masochist? (kidding, you’ve a right to your opinion). I just think ignorance is bliss.
The rolling system literally gets my hopes up when I see the item I need drops so it hits harder when I just go on to lose it.
To each their own ![]()
As I said, it felt better in the latter.
Previously the stuff was all hidden. ![]()
This sums up the issue with most problems presented on GD. It’s rarely about reality or logic. It always comes down to “it feels bad”
It lessens the sting and people fighting each other about who needed what. It really does suck when you needed an upgrade and they just snatch it when they don’t need it. I dunno, in Classic peeps would ninja and drop, or someone got salty and dropped. I rather let the AI win.
No drama, no big salt feeling against the random rogue who stole my stuff lol.
It’s almost like I want to feel good playing a video game.
Crazy.
