Just bought a new card...how will I fare?

Hi all!

For all you gaming hardware geeks out there, I just bought a new graphics card and was wondering if it is up to WoW’s standards! I am planning on building a machine around this card. Can it run at 120+ FPS at full settings (assuming all my other items are in line)?

The card in question is:

Asus TUF Gaming GeForce GTX 1660 Super Overclocked 6GB Edition HDMI DP DVI Gaming Graphics Card

Thank you!!!

World of Warcraft is not really graphics card dependent at all so we need to know what motherboard your on how much RAM you have what speed your RAM is running at and what processor you’re on. We also need to know your desired resolution. Once we have this info one of us can answer your question

In World of Warcraft your RAM and processor actually have more effect on your FPS then your graphics card believe it or not

Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming x570-PLUS (WiFi) ATX AM4
RAM: 16GB DDR4-3200 CL16
Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz 8-core

That’s what I have planned for right now. Is that enough information?

At 1440p? No it wont. Not consistently anyway you will take heavy dips in multiplayer content. Not on that processor I’m sorry. You need a 5000 series processor like the 5800x and they are actually in stock on bestbuy website. I don’t know what type of CPU Cooler you have but if you moved to the 5800x you will probably need an AIO.

The problem with your CPU well your current CPU is memory latency that’s going to be your biggest hindrance. The memory latency on the 5000 series is almost as good as Intel.

This video shows what type of performance you should expect if you upgrade your CPU

I have a 1080p monitor at the moment. does that change things?

You will still experience heavy dips in multiplayer content like raids or massive battlegrounds. Even at 1080p. Your memory latency is going to be a huge problem in WoW. Like I said the new 5000 series do not have this issue

I updated my post above to show you what type of experience you will get on the 5000 series

Great, I will give it a watch. Is the CPU the only issue here? I don’t mind upgrading a bit.

Not only will you notice a difference in World of Warcraft you will notice a night and day difference an overall smoothness and snappiness of your computer in general.

The 5800x really is an amazing CPU but it does require a really good cooler. Just be glad that you were incredibly smart and bought a good x570 motherboard. It should have no problem handling the new CPU just make sure that you do a bios update prior or the CPU will not boot.

Also you can probably sell your old CPU on eBay for a decent price because AMD processors are selling like water in the desert at the moment. That should help you recoup the losses on your new CPU. $450 on best buy wesite

This is my first build. I haven’t really bought anything yet lol that was just my build on pcpartpicker that I was setting up.

I will look into the 5800x…I don’t know much about a cooler for it, but I can do some more research.

In that case…

Could you share your pcpartpicker link that way I can edit it if I need to and change some parts around

You also want to do research to see if you really want to build a PC with the current problem in the PC market now is a HORRIBLE time to do a build.

You may even come out better using a pre build website like cyberpowerpc or iBuyPower. Because they actually have graphics cards and things like that in stock

I have 5900X, 32GB DDR4-3666 C16 and RTX 3080 at 2560x1440 Level 10 MSAA 4x. 100+ players will still kill the performance. I get 24 FPS on world bosses. Nvidia needs to fix the drivers though. It should perform better than 2080 Ti.

I just bought the 5800x processor you suggested. Do you have any suggestions for a cpu cooler?

Try Noctua NH-D15 or Deepcool Assassin 3, EK AIO 360 RGB, Arctic Cooling Liquid Freezer II 360. 5800X could get toasty.

Ill look into those, thanks!!!

EK AIO 360 RGB and Liquid Freezer II 360 is the best if you can fit it to your chassis.

125$ one of the cheapest and best AIOs you can buy. Buy make sure it fits in your case! Its HUGE

It WILL fit in this case. This case is AMAZING! I have it. This case also has amazing air flow! The main photo is very misleading, the front panel and top panels you take off. There are screens for airflow under the panels. I think the panels are just to keep dust out when you are not using it.

The case I mentioned above with the top and front Panels removed. I have 3 140mm fans in the front for intake and an exit 140mm fan in the back. Not to mention the AIO up top which also vents out.

that looks like an awesome setup. im trying to budget a bit. Do i need to spend 150 bucks on a cpu cooler? I saw one with good reviews for 100 bucks.
