It's time to fix Spell Reflect and Spell Block

just what the title says.
This game is way too inconsistent with how these abilities work and it’s at worst, super unfair when it decides it doens’t want to work.

Spell Reflect - this ability needs to be more consistent. Your own rules describe it as a way to reflect both the damage and the application of a magic debuff from a spell.
I want this to work ALL THE TIME. IF someone/something hits me with a big nuke, then I should be able to reflect it back in their face and it shoudl do the same amount of dmg it would have done to me.
Too often, this isn’t how it works, it just relfects (and doens’t hit me) and then either does no dmg or does some piddly amount of dmg in return. No. Fix it.

Also, sometimes this works on abilites that it shoudlnt. I remember a boss in DF that would do a magic and a melee hit at once. I could spell reflect the ENTIRE hit so not only did he take the melee hit back in his face, he took the dot it left too. This was fun but again…inconsistent.

Spell Block – I am sick to death of this abilty just straight up NOT working at all. I will often TURN to this ability when SR is on CD. I’ll hit the ability and STILL get hit by whatever it was I was trying to avoid…EVEN THOUGH IT WAS A MAGIC SPELL. WTH is the point of this ability and why isn’t the tooltip more specific about it’s requirements?

Something i see in delves, i see the enemy casting Web blast → i use spell reflect, i still get hit and suffer the absurd damage anyway, then i reflect the SECOND web blast, like wtf? why the second? and if they don’t cast quickly i just lose the effect.

Spell block never works on delves to me

I think I was in Earthcrawl Mines the other day that had something shooting webs and toxic spells at me and it would completely ignore Spell Reflect. I wasn’t sure if that’s a spell or not. Web Blast is extremely inconsistent, but when it works, it works.

Brann has an interrupt on a…30 second? CD. It’ll show as a debuff on him. Try to keep an eye on this when you’re going to reflect something in a pinch because he’ll kick whenever he can.

You used Spell Reflect after the first cast finished.

No, you’ll always reflect it if timed properly.

no, i did not

sorry Kennie, but really that’s the point of this post. The ability is just too damned inconsistent and people have to ACTUALLY make weak auras to know when they can and when they can’t use it. That’s a big problem.

Blizz can solve this problem by simply making sure every spell hitting a prot warrior is reflectable or blockable WHEN THE WARRIOR USES one of these two abilities. If you want to make certain encounters “immune” to having the damage/dot/effect “reflect” back to the caster (ie in boss mechanics); then proper use of spell reflect should still compensate the warrior accordingly. The spell’s dmg AND effect (esp. if it’s a CC) should NOT hit the warrior but the flat damage nuke it does absolutely SHOULD hit the caster. I dont expect to stun a boss (though…i mean…why not?); but I do expect that properly using these two abilites in my toolkit when I wish to avoid taking huge chunks of magic dmg or being CC’d into oblivion actually have the effect promised to me.

Spell Block should also always work. The tooltip says “make warrior immune to spells for xxx seconds” – there are literally ZERO gotchas or exceptions in this tooltip and this abilty has a long enough CD that its’ not OP for it to work correctly…so let’s make this happen please.

And yes, I am posting about this because I wasted almost an hour trying to kill Zekvir when i’ve been hearing that tanks can do this right now and was failing miserably.
Spell Reflect and Spell Block absolutely DO NOT WORK in that encounter and there is nothing telling me why or telling me that ahead of time. This is why I want this issue finally dealt with.

Spell Reflect is a very reliable ability. If you’re failing to Reflect or mitigate direct spell damage with Spell Block you’re either too slow or having issues with ping.

The Warrior Discord has a link to a google doc spreadsheet that lists every ability that can be spell reflected, blocked, and deflected. You can search for whatever you were failing to reflect, but its not an issue of functionality.

okay…please go do Zekvir then. Get back to me and let me know if you manage to spell reflect or spell block Enfeebling Spirts or Web Blast. I’ll wait

That doesn’t mean the ability doesn’t work or is inconsistent. The ability clearly works in most aspects of the game.

If its not working in one specific boss fight, it either was made to not function (usually you’re given a Deflect in this case) or a small oversight because there wasn’t a ton of testing done on a optional encounter that you’re woefully undergeared for.

Again rhat doesn’t mean these abilities are broken because they clearly work across the game in different places.

Its funny how you immediately think its the players problem and not a bug, knowing wow have a craploads of then and weird interactions that can cause these things to fail

so, its inconsistent, since is not working consistently, got it.

which is what I said. I swear some people JUST come in here to argue. I am fine with discussion but not fine when someone just wants to annoying insist they’re right with zero evidence to back it up.

  1. the fact that someone had to create a WA to show you what could and could NOT be spell reflected when the tooltip is pretty specific = design fail
  2. the fact that Spell Block is so stupidly straightforward in tooltip explanation that it borders on fraud (in a hypothetical sense) when it doens’t work = again…design fail.

So, how is this my fault?

I want Blizz to fix this. These two abilites are bread and butter/class identify for prot warriors and the fact that we’ve always had this JANKY relationship with their dependability means it’s way past time for it to get a fix. Either make everything spell blockable/reflectable if timed correctly or get rid of the ability and give us a flat reduction to cc duration and magic dmg since we’re tanks.

BTW–I love the flavor of spell Reflect (using it on Silken Council when tanking Takazj is hilarious btw) and Spell Block was the ONLY WAY to handle pre-nerf Chrono Lord Deios in Season 2 of DF. These abilities have the capacity to work…so…what’s the problem? Bad development?

If a known ability, that has been documented and researched by the player base (For Years at this point) is functioning for said researchers, and several members of this forum than, yes the problem most likely is between you and the client.

I don’t know what to tell you since, like I said, players have developed Speadsheets and Weakauras that all track spells that can be reflected and noted about. The spells functionality is not the issue. You personally have an issue with one single encounter.

Yes because sometimes there are things Blizzard doesn’t want us to reflect with good reason (EG: Reflecting direct damage abilities from Raid Bosses). Not every spell can be reflected and thats very common knowledge.

Again most likely tbe only thing that occured is that either Blizzard doesn’t want Spell Reflect to be overtly powerful in this optional activity and it purposely doesnt work, OR they forgot specific flags that let a spell be reflected.

Regardless the Ability works as noted literally every where else in the game, and there isn’t some poorly written code where it just fails half the time.

Quite literally stop typing, go to the Warrior Discord Skyhold and search Spell Reflect Speadsheet.

The people trying to help you understand are not the ones providing no evidence. They’re people who understand the game, and browse these forums trying to assist people in getting better.

you ignored the point about the fact that having to use a weak aura to interpret what should be a pretty straightforward ability is a PURE design fail.
No amount of condescending posturing is going To change to my mind on that. We shouldn’t need an add-on to use one of our core abilities.

All magic spells should be reflectable or blockable or none of them should be. Nothing feels worse than thinking youv’e mastered how to use something only to have a flowchart of “gotchas” that take all the fun out of it.

how is the ability being researched and documented for years if we are talking about new spells and new interactions for currently new content?

If you are well aware of researching and documenting wow skills for the past years you know there is plenty of bugs happening due to old client and there is always hotfixes to solve that.

Those bugs usually happens when new content comes up with new interactions. Just go trough some pages of patches and you will see tons of it.

The spell is not working properly in some delves, thats not a me or a singular issue of a single encounter.

I don’t usually say this, but you are whiteknighting too hard mate, you think it was blizzard intent that other bugs happened as well?

Like, i saw one bugfix for monks:

  • Mistweaver

  • Fixed an issue that caused Jade Bond’s increase to Yu’lon’s Soothing Breath to not function in some scenarios.

So you would be one of those people who said it was intended as well? it was intended to not function in some scenarios?

The spell is not working consistently, period. Sometimes they do not reflect web blast or poison volley in the delves that have nerubians, this is not intended because sometimes they do function properly and i can reflect then, so either it should work all the time or never.

Its clearly a bug that should be fixed, if its not already by today update :tipping_hand_man:t5:

Personally, i don’t need that, i researched/experienced myself doing delves.

yah that “quite literally stop typing” was when I just stopped reading. lol
I’m not doing a dissertation to use a core ability and no player should be expectred to do that.

I have always had a problem with SR not reflecting everything …and I am old enough to rmemeber when they later changed the tooltip to specify that it will only reflect 25% back of the dmg that would have hit me (whilst I take zero dmg). I’m even fine with that (begrudgingly) on certain enounters because I can see how that might trivialize them.

But web blast hits super hard and it stuns. This should absolutely be something we can reflect OR block when we can’t be in melee range for an interupt. I dont see how this makes the enounter trivial or “unfair” to anyone.

Beta and PTR clients. All of this information is studied long before it hits live servers.

Do you have examples? The only ability that been mentioned by name has been Web Bolt (Its actually called Web Blast in Zekvir’s Lair which means its an entirely different spell), which has been spell reflected by me and by others in devles. So what abilities are the OP dealing with? Web Blast? Horrendous Roar? Enfeebling Spittle? Angler’s Web?

Web Blast is an AoE Ability (Something that can’t be reflected in the past at most its been deflected).

Horrendous Roar is a ground based non-targeted AoE Ability (Can’t be reflected).

Angler’s Web is a ground based Non-targeted AoE Ability (Can’t be reflected).

Enfeebling Spittle is the only targeted ability here, that could be reflected by normal logic. Most likely a single ability missing a single flag. Most warriors however are using methods to shed Slows (Bladestorm, Avatar, Relentless Pursuit, Etc.) or relying on Bran to remove it.

And again, outside of a single optional delve, are you seeing Spell Reflect not function? Open world? Dungeons? Raid?

Spell Reflect as an ability functions very well, outside of one area, and one ability.

If Spell Reflect was acting in an inconsistent way, there would be a lot more warriors talking about it (there aren’t). The functionality has worked fine and continues to do so in most content. If there is a bug in one encounter, go to the bug forums and write about it. However, it seems like every other ability not named Enfeebling Spittle, is functioning as intended.

Than we have nothing to discuss. I’ve given tools, and explanations to the OP’s problem. If you and him wana plug your ears that’s fine. The tools are here, made by people much more dedicated than I am to figuring all that stuff out.

That’s…no, not really. Like, sure, it isn’t always intuitive as to what it can and can’t reflect, but figuring out what you can bounce with spell reflect is part of the fun of warr in pve.

If you can’t then you get a damage reduction.

Web Blast doesn’t just “go through” spell reflect if it’s timed correctly, though. Something else either knocked it off or it was cast late. It didn’t simply fail to work.

You are that delusional then? because if half of the feedback from beta and ptr went live a lot of problems would be fixed on launch

It is web bolt and web blast, web blast is not just on Zekvir’s lair, its in other delves above +7 as well, since there are his minions like Tala and Velo, but you you sure know that.

There are cases where i can and i can’t spell reflect then, so its bugged

Did you see a lot of the monks players complaining about the bug interaction i posted earlier? no, you did not, then this is a fallacy

You are the one who wanna plug your ears and disregard our experiences like we are lying

But it did, thats what people call a bug

Because somebody pressed reflect too late, yes.
