Like everyone else I started the season off on equal footing with everyone else. Conquest gated all to hell, tier pieces requiring you to obtain PVE gear or be forced to use the very limited amount of tier machine rewards to upgrade pvp gear to tier. Either way the process is lackluster and it feels they are trying to isolate and force PVP players into having to do PVE content, even if it is just raid finder.
None the less I overlooked all of this as I dabble in both.
My gripes didn’t start until I decided to gear 2 other chars in pvp this week and I found out the hard way how there is literally 0 catchup mechanics and as always the spread in PVP is so radical that unless you are getting close to conquest capping your gear, You are nothing but fodder. Ranked play is out the window, normal pvp has the absolute worst conquest rewards after your first win of the day, Bloody token farming is beyond slow after the first day or 2 of the week making it near impossible to even farm bloody token gear. It is miserable.
To put in context, I got my hunter to 80 last tuesday. As of this morning, I finally maxed conquest cap and finally filled as much gaps as I could with bloody gear.
You may say “well Squid you got fully caught up in 1 week”
True… but… I hardly slept the entire week and did nothing but devote myself all day every day to endless pvp game modes. The amount of hours needed was staggering and that is even with a few geared friends helping me along the entire time.
I can only imagine what it is like for passive players trying to get their foot in the door. It was brutal and left me frustrated and exhausted as the first 3 days of the event was spent endlessly in the graveyard. farmed and 1 shot killed almost every time I spawned.
it honestly wasn’t until I reached a pvp ilvl of around 670 that is started to become bearable.
Bringing back vault would help fix this. It worked great in Dragon flight though I do feel it was a little too fast. But you could simply fill a blank with whatever you get from the vault even if it wasn’t bis stats and it would at least help you survive until you could cap out and get BIS stat items.
Let me know what you guys think about the pace of pvp gearing.
I agree that more content and options for PvP are always nice, but it’s hard not to just kind of say…
It’s pretty easy to get geared right now. The only actual issue, at all, with PvP gearing is the gemming, which is a massive gold or time investment for alts. So perhaps that could be looked at.
But everything else is just lightning fast.
Full PvP gear in a couple of hours, tops. With bloody tokens being absurdly easy to farm, you can get within 5-8 ilvls of a max ilvl character in like 4-5 hours, at most, of hitting 80. I’m kinda guessing, but it feels right.
Gems need a look at. Everything else is historically easy.
That might work on realms that are almost pvp exclusive but for smaller realms like I am on, there is no activity for bloody tokens, crates, or even the sparks quest. And yes, you can use the group finder but after the first 2days after a reset, the spark groups vanish.
My conclusion. Loosing a BG should rewards you 20-30 conquest and winning should net a minimum of 50 conquest. That is speaking random unrated BGs. rated play isn’t too bad as far as rewards but the barrier to entry is absurd. You got to give people a chance to get geared enough to compete in rated play.
Realms have nothing to do with anything. I have seen sparks groups going on even on Monday. Every night I have seen crate farm groups going on. Stop making excuses, it takes time sure but welcome to gaming.
Don’t talk to me like I am a 12 yr old just starting this game. i have played for over 18 years. Your argument is just stupid. No there isn’t an endless supply of spark or crate farming groups listed in the finder. Never. A few at first on tuesday and wednesday and then near impossible to find after. And even when you see them, they will decline you for low ilvl and if you try to start your own on a small realm, It doesn’t even matter as there is no one around to kill to even farm sparks. So you are forced to wait for someone on an active pp realm to list a group and then just get declined for your ilvl.
That is just facts. You are delusional.
Yea I can find groups on my main all day long. especially as a healer. But try to get a group with a pvp ilvl of 660 and see what happens.
Well, if you’re going to be immature and angry like a little child about it, you’re going to get treated that way. This is factually the easiest expansion to gear for pvp in wow history.
Clearly you don’t even know what facts are. Stop complaining and go join a crate farm group. Literally free gear with little to no pvp involved.
I’ll definitely agree that crate groups aren’t always active. It’s a good solution for when people can find them, though. I’ve never been declined based on ilvl, but I’ve only done it a few times.
I don’t really disagree with any of your points, to be clear.
But I play on a small server, though server isn’t near as relevant as it used to be. Shards kind of helped/ruined that, depending on your perspective.
I don’t have a friend group that PvPs anymore, so I do all my own gearing.
What it comes down to is that I’m comparing current alt gearing to where it has been and right now it’s just much faster. Again, except gems. I can’t stress enough how stupid I think the gem system is right now.
But I’m fairly confident that if, right now, I wanted to gear my Resto Druid to be comfortable in arena, I could do that by the end of the day from absolutely 0 gear. While having a normal life, working and having to raid tonight.
That has never, ever been possible to my knowledge in previous expansions.
Luckily for me i stay honor capped on my main most the time so it is easy for me to scrounge up sockets for my alt as my main seems to get honor rapidly. Honor itself hasn’t been slow on my hunter either. though the cost per gem socket is pretty absurd, it is also very easy. Easier than conquest capping.
Yeah, even if it was like a thousand bloody tokens, it’s crazy as is.
I’m not against the idea of giving PvP players ways to make some decent gold for once, but it feels prohibitively expensive. There’s no way to fully gem more than 1-2 characters without a pretty hefty time investment.
EDIT:
Also, just to be clear, winning 1 regular BG, 1 epic BG and doing your weekly conquest quests is about enough to get conquest capped in 1-2 weeks, if you’d rather take the slower, but more time efficient path.
It felt better towards the end of last season when a bloodstone was only like 2k gold. But now they are 3-4x more than that. I assume it will get better in a month or so
It was super easy to fill but it was like winning the lottery if you actually get anything you need when mid geared. It however is a great catchup mechanic for alts as you can take whatever high ilvl junk it gives you and it will atleast be ilvl to help you not get face rolled endlessly. But I agree it outlives it’s usefulness after the first few weeks.
There was never any way for you to catch up on weekly vaults that you missed out on. So you’d be out 2-3 pieces of gear on people that you’d never get back.
Crate farming is the way now sadly. Stupid but that’s it. If you don’t wanna, too bad just unsub as people will tell you (because that’s smart )
They should just MASSIVELY buff conquest gains for 2s/3s until you’re caught up to the current week or something. I’ve said 4X before but I am thinking now more like 10X as much conquest per win.
People might grab a friend and hop into some 2s games which is infinitely healthier for the game than afk farming crates.
There absolutely should be a catchup mechanic for conquest/bloody tokens. Though bloody tokens are already way too easy to overcap each week so less needed for them.
