It's time to bring Retribution to the light

Dear PVP Devs,

It’s time to shine a light (pun intended) on a change that could elevate our beloved Retribution Paladins to their rightful place in the epic battles of World of Warcraft. :shield:

Currently, the identity of Ret Paladins feels somewhat fragmented. While we excel at our burst damage and survivability, we lack that distinctive utility which sets us apart from other melee classes. Enter the Healing Cut on Hammer of Light.

Imagine this: Adding a healing cut to our Hammer of Light would provide us with the much-needed Mortal Strike (MS) effect. This not only aligns with our lore of divine judgement but gives us a tangible advantage in PvP scenarios, finally silencing those who underestimate our potential.

Here’s how it breaks down:

  1. Clear Role Definition: With an MS effect, Hammer of Light will define our role in group compositions more clearly. Healers beware; the dawn of Retribution is near.
  2. Strategic Depth: This tweak creates a new layer of strategy. Coordinating our hammer smashes with other debuffs and abilities would require skill and precision, adding depth to our gameplay.
  3. Choices between Herald of the Sun and Templar: Giving clear and distinct identities to these class trees. With Hammer of Light applying the healing cut, Herald of the Sun remains our beacon of hope, restoring health, while Templar delivers the final judgement.

So, let’s rally together and advocate for this change. Retribution Paladins deserve a defined utility that mirrors their grandeur and fervor. Let’s hammer home the point: it’s time for the Healing Cut on Hammer of Light!

Your ally in righteous retribution, Burstnasty

So to bring paladins closer to the light you want to war crime your enemies so they can’t be healed?

Adding MS to Templar won’t make Ret good in pvp, it will just open up more viable comps for us (so I guess in that sense it’s not a bad idea and I’m not opposed to it). But for example, adding MS to ret isn’t going to make ret/warrior or cupid cleave any beter.

Ret needs damage buffs to be relevant again. Right now we have a lot of useless padding damage and mediocre utility but don’t really have much to contribute to kill setups.

True. Last week you guys could at least BOP your hpal so they couldn’t bubble and die to spell damage, now you can’t even do that

Templar is f***ing awful to play, I would not want the spec to be forced into it.

Both hero trees play the same way wdym. Templar just has an extra button to push every 30 secs that can do some nice spiky damage 1 out of 10 times if you are lucky. Unnerf AW:M and spec will shine.

I mean, templar you need to have 5 hp for hammer, so you wanna wake with 2 so you dont overcap, which can feel a little clunky, but it’s really not THAT different. I definitely wouldnt say that

(Although the DP proc every wake that herald gets is super nice)

You always overcap with wake, because you need to keep expurgation dot on target and they forced every ret into 2HP judgment talent because of mastery boost baked into it.

HoL atleast does some damage unlike FV.

It’s is a flawed ability that goes against the main goal of wings for this expansion, don’t get me wrong I’d really like it to be great and not a mess to play but it’s just wrong on many levels, I even made a special sound for it in my ability sounds addon.

You’re basically forced to use it after WoA, which means you don’t get to stack crusade first for efficient dmg since you’ll most likely get cced or kited, and you’re also partially forced to overcap to get Blessing of Dawn or w/e its name is so the ability does dmg.

It does big dam when it crits but most of the time it does nothing and is just a way to trigger empyrian feces, at that point you’re just better off with herald, since at least you get to live longer.

They could unnerf reg wings ig, that’d make it less clunky but getting HoL crits too often might end up creating a new set of problems lol

Or hear me out. We take MS away from everyone but warrior and balance healing/warrior’s MS accordingly.

Yep, this is obviously the better decision to make because at this point MS is a stupid and pointless mechanic that you are obligated to include into most arena comps, but since so many specs have it now, it is just an annoying mechanic that does nothing but limit comp variety.

You can bring yourself closer to the light right now, play holy spec.

How about no?
All reduced healing effects need to be removed.

The only ms effects should be like psyfiend and sharpen, cd based and able to out play it.

So make all MS effects cd based and able to play around like warlocks soul rip ( but 1 min cd is too long )

We don’t want everything, we want our spec to be decent. That’s all. Right now it’s not very decent.

I will never understand why blizzard treats specs like ret, enhance, arcane, frost dk, and augmentation like “meme specs” that are rarely ever strong in the meta, and when they are it’s just some gimmicky one shot burst that gets quickly patched out of the game.

Meanwhile specs like SP, frost mage, arms, UHDK, sub/assass, ele, destro and dh are top meta specs over 50% of the time.
