If anything, bard being a hunter spec would make more sense. Warrior poets already exist in the game lore and a lot of them are some form of hunter; for example, Lor’themar is a survival hunter.
Like the idea of a cast bar that has a sweet spot to hit or release the key for stronger effectiveness, like a riff off the evoker but it’s not just hold longer for bigger effect. Maybe some of that is fine. Probably needs to have hero.
I would have honestly just added it as a 4th rogue tree at this point. The class specializes in daggers/small weapons/and light ranged weapons. I’ve always imagined bards in leather anyway. Energy and combo points for the songs would be fine. Maybe the song does different things based on combo points (small aoe heal at 1 point, small aoe dot at 2 points, big ally heal at 3 points, etc.). Add some variance to the rotation. I dunno.
I can have hope that Blizz won’t just yeet my favourite class, but who knows?
I envision bard much differently than the stereotypical musician. Bards, to me, are more about influence and presence; they’re an inspiration to those around them. Whether they inspire through combat prowess, motivational speeches, or rousing ballads is moot, they’re whole purpose is to make sure their people feel empowered by what they’re doing and make their rivals feel hesitant or hopeless.
I remember paladins used to have, and still have a few, auras they could use, but it goes away if changed.
The totem thing is great though. Four totems, four different utilities going at once. I used to check in with my old raid leader what pet buffs they wanted when some hunter pets still provided a groupwide buff.
I like utility. I like situational spells that change during fights. The idea of aura/song/pet based buffing appeals to me.
I once made a topic designing a Bard but in the end I deleted it because it’s just a Hunter with music. I.E There’s no point in anything. Everything has been done. All Themes used.
