Now that the developers have played around and designed a mid-range class, I think it’s time to develop another one. This obviously would not be a thing until the next expansion or two, but I think a plate wearing mid-range healer/dps with a 3rd tank spec (Obviously this spec wouldn’t be mid-range) is perfect.
You can take the traditional bard theme and use the song-weaving and/or auras (Somewhat similar to shaman totems) for buffs/defensives/short-term DoTs and add-in melee damage with bleeds/one-offs.
I think it would be pretty easy to hash-out the lore of “healing music” in a magical world like WoW.
It would be a little like the paladin is the only thing I have trouble getting around (More light focused plate wearers), but I think making the dps/healing mid-range like Evoker would make it different enough. And you can make the Lore spell out they are a little more hippie / counter-culture than Paladins.

How about we let the devs figure out the state of current classes before throwing any new ones into the mix, ey?

Delete hunters and replace them with bards. Problem solved, you’re welcome

Bards are a terrible idea that should have been consigned to the dustbin of history where they belonged back in AD&D.

Bard makes no sense being anything other than a healer, ranged DPS, or some kind of support.

Well obviously it wouldn’t happen until at least the next expansion, or more likely the one after that since Blizzard doesn’t typically add new classes two expansions in a row.
So, they have lots of time.
I dont think a bard makes any sense as a midrange plate wearer that tanks.
I would like bards but not in this format.
Nah not time too similar to monk
Yeah a bard tank doesn’t really make sense to me.
Either a cloth wearer or leather, I think. The spells themselves could work on a timing based mechanic. Think Gears of War’s active reload system where you press the button at the right time to get an enhanced effect. Evoker has already shown that Blizzard is open to changing the way spells are cast with empowered abilities. This wouldn’t be too far away from that concept.

ROFL people have been saying this since 2004 and it hasn’t happened but we still get new classes anyways.
Time to retire this dead horse argument.

Maybe if it was a buff focused DPS like Dancer in FFXIV.
This has been asked since forever. If it was going to happen it would have by now.
Not going to lie. I am thoroughly enjoying that not a single person has supported the idea =)
I’m in the “don’t care” category.
They tried that last expansion. That was supposed to be the perfect balance expansion because no new class, no new races.
I’ll stop asking for classes once Tinker is playable.
He’s saying bard with plate because of Everquest.
For context the Bard pulled massive aggro with their support songs at lower levels and they pulled mobs in dungeons (different than WoW). They also had very little offensive capability end game (for awhile anyway) and their support was important enough that you didn’t want them dying in a raid.
That’s how you got a very tanky end game Bard.
Eventually EQ just made support into mostly DPS with support tools.
I remember Bards was one of the classes that could pull a ton of mobs and train ‘em around the zone until they died.
I played from ‘99 to ‘04.
At this point I’d rather see new specs or reworked specs than a new class. But a bard would be interesting to see in how it was implemented. Not sure how it’d fit into any expansion theme though unless maybe a chill adventurer expansion.
