It's ridiculous how paranoid you people are

Maybe you missed the part where I specifically excluded governments from making these types of rules? Business are answerable both legally to the laws that specifically protect people from discrimination and economically to the people who may choose not to transact with them if their standards are inappropriate.

Nope, didn’t miss that part. These were private businesses and landowners. They massed enough support, eventually making it law.

Yep. That is why they are smart enough to get people to follow them. Then they don’t have to worry about the law, because they wrote the law.

The forum meltdown has been hilarious.

It has. All over a silly thing.

It’s GD though.

Laws that prohibit discrimination is one way. Organizing a boycott until the entity folds or adopts the community standard is another.

Unless they’re death threats? How do you not see the parallel here?

No, definitions don’t work like that. The definition of Hate Speech is always the same.

There are two primary possibilities for this scenario. The comment isn’t racist and the person calling it racist is wrong. The comment is racist and the person saying it doesn’t realize or understand that it is racist.

No, you can’t. “You got a bigass head!” isn’t hate speech in most circumstances. While someone could construct a few narrow situations, with lots of stuff going on around it where it could be framed that way, by itself, that comment is derogatory, but not hate speech.

I’d just like to chat on the forums like i do in other public places without being censored or people blowing a gasket getting rediculously offended. I’d like to post gifs from funny movies even though it might have the F word or S word. Some of the gifs to post on here are so restrictive. I’d like to insult in game races with funny humor without being censored or someone getting ridiculously offended and reported. Compared to some other platforms it kind of sucks.

Okay, so awful people amass enough support to take control of the government and do awful things with their power. Do you think that would be prevented by people opposing any and all kinds of community standards?

You’re comparing apples to fire engines here. We’re discussing a business setting a community standard that reflects the larger part of society, not a group of wealthy business and landowners working to shape that standard.

You realize that if you’re having a conversation that is racist in a public place that someone like me may overhear and get offended? And if it happens to be me you’ll be getting an earful about it? If you can’t behave properly in public than you shouldn’t be outside your home.

Wow really youre assuming im racist? Im not even talking about race things to be able to talk about.

I mean it’s the gist of most of these threads, if you have any concerns at all about the contract you must be a garbage human being and should just leave the game.

Like i said before people should be able to say what they want. The consequences are up to them whether they should to say it or not.

Yes. People voicing their opposition to oppressive community standards is the only thing that has prevented awful things. Edmund Burke is quoted with a very famous phrase about the same (even though it probably wasn’t his).

Awwww… Yes. We are discussing a wealthy business shape a standard. It is called the “social contract” and it has historical meaning. Making metaphorical comparisons using vastly different words doesn’t add weight to your argument.

So im a garbage human being if i want to post a funny gif from a movie. But cant post it because it has a specific word that might hurt someones feelers? Rediculous!

Ha, think they got you! Nice to see they are finally starting to understand and the name calling is out in order to just get under your skin!

See, we are all arguing the same point.

There’s a set of rules we have to follow here. I understand that you want to post to you’re liking, but we can’t.

So just be cool and all will be well.

The social contract simply tells you what the consequences are. You cant cry when that ban comes for you. Its their pool and they get to decide if you are allowed to pee in it or not.

No. Yes. It is their pool until it upsets someone enough for the government to step in
