It's not really the same?

With work, it’s hard to stick with a game. I keep trying Wrath and it “doesnt feel the same”.

I want to stress that having long WoW classic like MMOs or just WoW classic+ is NEEDED for the gaming community and the WoW community as a whole. I think classic stands the test of time and is an older game. I like classic WoW for the same reason I like older games in general, Not because of the nostalgia but because there was a charm to it all right?
Hell, at a point WoWclassic is so old it’s pretty much new.

That being said, I feel like classicLK is hard to justify. part of me wants really bad to play it, but in 2008 there were still people actually PLAYING the game as in the old content. I remember in 2008 even on my small server always running into a full barrens and the crossroads. I remember you could always find players, you could always find a WC group. There was players in every zone all the time and if it was peak you could get a leveling dungeon crew together from strangers. at least how i remember it.

I’m not getting the same vibes. The same sense of community. and to me cataclassic is out of the question totally. By cata the game is modernized and you’re just playing old “modern content” with a handicap. Everything in Cata is still modern to the game. If you play Live you see CATA every single time you log in. any time you leave stormwind or org that’s cataclysm. Part of the idea of this is to see the game as it was.

It could be your server. But, ultimately, what you’re craving actually happened in Classic’s vanilla rerelease a few years ago - it was amazing. Wotlk just doesnt have that same feel, especially not the classic version. I recommend either trying out one of the Vanilla or SoM servers, or waiting for a relaunch of SoM.

Blizzard hasnt made an announcement yet. My guess is they’re waiting until a lul in their current projects - wotlk classic and DF both juat recently launched. Maybe midway through their life they’ll launch a new SoM season.

When they do, you bet your beard I’ll be there. Vanilla is the BEST version of this game for people like us who enjoy the pure MMO aspect.

This is true. We don’t need to look too far to see the differences, though:

  • Blizzard paid boosts, skipping the majority of all levelling content
  • Frequency of player boosting in Classic and TBCC

Both of these have had a direct impact on how we levelled our characters, and any new players, or even people who don’t have 10+ level 80s already looking to start an alt, will find a barren wasteland because most already have multiple high levels.

You’ll never have the same sense of community again. This isn’t because of Blizzard; this isn’t because of WoW, this is because of US. We’ve changed fundamentally over the years.

We can see how it was from a technical standpoint (save for several bugs) but we will never see it how it was from a community standpoint.

SoM is unlikely to have a relaunch due to the little success it had initially for Vanilla.

You don’t mean that. Don’t say such things.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, I really do. I offer hugs.

I think SoM hit at a bad time. It was competing with TBD, and hit too soon after Classic.

I’d venture to say that the players of Classic+ won’t necessarily be the Classic player base. Part of the reason why many people are here is because it is old content and it’s already been figured out. Part of the draw is that there is a low effort high reward ratio.

Edit: And let me add that MMORPGs and other games that my require a high skill floor or time spent like fighting games and RTS are a dying genre for a reason. The player base is totally different.

As fun as the idea of lich king sounds, I think i might just stick with dragon flight? I feel like i miscommunicated a bit. My idea of a perfect WoW IS around the wrath and TBC area and mixing it in with the modern game. I like the stuff the modern game has like group finger and random queue for heroics.
I also love all the races we can play as and the classes we have.

However i miss the slow immersion wrath/classic era provides.
just in wrath classic rn, i started a new warrior, level to 12 and i was crafting my own greens. I had pretty much free reign over all the copper in the starting area. I was kicking **s as the sun set over durotar with my crafted greens from blacksmithing.

part of me wants to continue but the other part of me feels like “well in a year this wont even be here, dragon flight is offering up some fun looking changes”. Idk the lack of other leveling players seemed to bother me.

Also, wrath will never be able to recapture that feeling of actually being there, of actually going to dalaran the first time. It can’t recapture the feeling of walking across the barrens at level 8 to get to thunder bluff to train guns.
You can’t recapture that feeling of taking the tram the first time.

and its funny because these are all great experiences the modern game keeps from new players for some odd reason.
But at the very least when i went to the new capital city in dragon flight it was filled with players and had this very large central tower that captured my awe for a bit.

As much as I love the feeling of the game play of wrath, im not seeing anything new and it hurts.

Lol what? Needed? You’re being a bit dramatic.

who cares?

About your emotional post?

No one.

The main difference is that you aren’t getting new players coming into Classic as you had when Wrath was new. The majority of people who want to get on this ride are already here and max level. The time to experience vanilla Azeroth was during vanilla classic, when Azeroth was current.

Everyone keeps saying you can’t capture the magic again. But classic vanilla was a pretty magical experience for me and I think many others. If I only capture a portion of that magic again, I’ll be very satisfied. Please bring us fresh vanilla Blizz.

Except… we are having new players joining, so are they just, kinda screwed then?

How we experienced Vanilla back in 2004-2007 - no, Blizzard can’t recreate that.

They recreated that magic for me and many others in 2019 and 2020.

Not in the millions.

You and a lucky few.

So… just because it’s not in the millions, that means all new players should just be screwed over?
