Just saw the teaser. WOW.
Literally, go play WOW. and /y “WOW!”
I also felt Garrisons were the closest to de facto player housing.
But now there’s ACTUALLY player housing coming in Midnight?
Yikes, wow, what a treat. Huge carrot on the stick to dangle. “HEY you always wanted player housing right? Just buy MIDNIGHT. It HAS IT!”
Sold. Thank you. WoW4Ever.
Edit: just so elated at this just HAD to make a celebratory post about it.
Oh yeah, when they announced The War Within, it was explained it was part of a trilogy of expansion called the “Worldsoul Saga”. In order:
The War Within
Midnight
The Last Titan
What if Blizzard introduced player housing by making it inside of your garrison, but with one key change: you could choose the zone where your garrison would be located?
So, now you have access to your garrison along with player housing.
Noice! While some would attribute that to “Todd Howard” of Bethesda “Oh, just one more thing.”…you more succently attributed that to the legendary Columbo.
The base coding of Garrisons is a starting point for a housing system. But Garrisons were a quest and profession hub. You could swap pre-existing buildings for crafting or bonuses. That’s it.
Amen to this. People use the whole Garrison argument as some sort of bizarre attempt at a slam-dunk against housing while utterly missing what makes housing so appealing to many people; personalisation. There was close to none of that with Garrisons. Everyone’s Garrison looked identical other than the placement of a few plots.
Garrisons were essentially giving everyone the same parking garage and letting them choose the colour of the trashcans, at best. There was practically nothing in common with it to the housing we have seem from other MMO over a decade ago.
