I don’t really care much for Classic. My earliest experience of WoW was late Wrath, and the game as it was vanished shortly thereafter. I just want to experience the old world I barely had the chance to see.
I think I honestly just feel defensive about the entire topic because of how “passionate” I’ve seen people get about it. Both Blizzard and the players have had strong words regarding classic and it makes me feel like someone is gonna do something dumb. Just not sure which side.
Not to piss on anyone’s parade, but the vast majority of us in beta are having a blast.
Please stop wishing ill on those of us who enjoyed Vanilla and prefer it over retail. You guys still have retail. Let us have our thing.
I don’t think anyone here is wishing ill on anyone who’s enjoying it. I plan on playing it extensively myself and I’m glad it’s going well.
It’s just I’ve seen and read so many smug, patronizing “it’s going to crash/you think you do, but you don’t”.
And I’m here to say the majority of people in beta right now? Really are enjoying it. Yes, it’s clunky and old–but it’s home for some of us. It’s the WoW we missed. Why do people feel the need to get so danged salty about that? Some of those “it’s not a bug” are actually COOL AS HECK. Like the Tauren having a longer hit box, and not getting a proc off taking a crit while you’re sitting.
I’m loving the heck out of it. The world is full of people. Hunter feels like the hunter I loved. Just…let us have the thing. Retail won’t be going anywhere–so why be snide (this is a general comment, btw, and not directed specifically at everyone or anyone here–but rather just the overall tone of these multiple posts I’ve seen so much of since Classic was announced).
I mean, you’re not wrong. But it is a two way street. There are people running around insisting Classic will crush retail and Blizzard will be forced to start over. It’s only when I read comments like that when it’s tempting to be snide.
Personally I think it’s great that Blizzard is trying to recreate Vanilla, especially since their stance on private servers turned from a legal issue to more or less a service issue. With Blizzard finally releasing WoW classic in order to provide an easy to access, and safe way to play Vanilla WoW.
There will be populations for both Classic and Retail players, and there will be harmony. Some people might prefer Classic, and some people might prefer Retail, and in the end we’re all gonna be part of one community.
Now then, time to go back to Classic and pitch my tent in the Barrens. You’ll see me trying to find Mankrik’s wife and trying to get 10 Zhevra hooves.
Those are annoying as well. But the vast and silent majority of us don’t post anything about it. We’ve just been waiting. And now some of us are lucky enough to test the game. I think posters on the “you think you do but you don’t” and “Retail is crappy and should die and there should only be Classic” are both wrong and kinda jerk-y.
Some people do feel the need to detract from someone else’s enjoyment as a means of justifying their own dissatisfaction. However, there is a multitude with differing opinions of why exactly they are cynical of Classic, it just so happens their cynicism is a unifying factor; it may seem like there is a majority of dissenters, but their motivations are distinct.
In other words, the resistance to your enjoyment looks much worse than it really is.
Wish I could get into Beta, but I’ve only played for 15 years.
Not dedicated enough.
I’ve also played for 15 years, and so has my husband. We’re not streamers or content creators–we’re just average players. I got a beta invite last night, my husband is still waiting. They’ll be rolling more out over the coming weeks as they increase server load and let the first wave hit level 30 (and by then, they’ll be ready to increase the level cap to the next tier or even to 60).
Yeah, they do these invites in waves, not all at once.
I’ve never gotten into a beta via invite for Blizzard. I’m not really counting on it this time either. Been subbed for basically the entirety of WoW with no breaks, not sure what else they need lol
WoW has a relatively large playerbase. That you can find contradicting or unrealistic expectations among thousands (if not millions) of those people isn’t surprising. Still, I’m glad they stuck to their guns and have devoted this much effort and money to as authentic a Vanilla experience as we seem to have. Even though they recognize that many people are coming at it from an emotional standpoint that’s not going to stand up to reality.
I think the calculation is that if even a fraction of the playerbase is into it, that’s still likely to translate into pretty solid population numbers by any current MMO’s standards. And going for “Vanilla, as Vanilla was” is a much more realistic target to hit than “Vanilla, but better according to X’s feelings of nostalgia”.
There are a lot of people who play, believe it or not.
All I said was I’m not counting on it.
In a fashion that suggested you believed you were entitled to it because you played for 15 years.
It’s not based on play-time, loyalty, or anything other than if you’re a streamer who can promote them. Otherwise, it’s random.
It is based on time played. They said that.
And I don’t think I’m entitled to anything. Sorry.
Then I missed it. Still, there are a lot of people who have also played for fifteen years. There are only two classic beta servers right now too, so. They don’t want to overwhelm them immediately.
Okay. Sorry.
